If you've read the novel and would like to add it to your Mibba booklist, you can do so here.
    Anyone want an indepth discussion?
    Haha.

You'd never guess it was written in the early 1800's, by the way it's so fantastically written.
I think it's the original Cinderella.

Cinderella dates back to the first century B.C.
    :cute:

And erm, I think the novel is a bit over the top.

I'm reading it right now for school, and it's okay. Not exactly my cup of tea since I've never been in to books with that flowery a language. And up until chapter 20 I wasn't really interested. Jane bores me a bit, but I do love Mr. Rochester. I'm glad I've read it though, otherwise I probably wouldn't have.

    I liked Wuthering Heights better.
Jane Eyre bored me. Especially the part where she's wandering through the moors.

I loved Jane Eyre, I didn't care too much for her childrenhood part, but I really enjoyed it. I read it first when I just turned 12. I've read parts of it over again. I love it. I think the ending was great. :]

I loved it too, but I thought some parts of it were ironic, such as when she just HAPPENS to come upon on St. John's doorstep and just HAPPENS to inherit all of that money. But what would stories be without a little irony, I guess.

    I know what you mean.

But, alot of it is based on Charlotte's own life experiences.
Like, her mother died when she was very young, she went to a school similar to Lowood, and alot of people died of disease, including her sister [who i'm guessing is portayed as Helen], she became a Governess, she fell in love with a man who was already married.

I guess she just changed it about abit to make it different in ways.

I do get bored in parts, but some parts I think are fantastic.
And some bits are creepy, like her dreams about the children and her hearing laughter in the corridors at night.
She annoys me abit when she won't accept anything from Rochester, when he's just trying to love her and show her kindness.
    She's so awkward!

I'm doing this with teh uni.

I hate her and her relationship to Russian fairy tales and her bloody semantic fields.

It's not too bad but I just hate the characters.

Probably because it;s my first reading and I have to analyse everything.

I really don't like St John.
    And obviously Blanc Ingram.

Have you ever noticed how many of the characters have names that are related in some way to the four elements?

    Air. Water. Fire. Earth?

Just something to toss in there.

Love your username & avatar, Lady Lazarus...
But everything about Jane Eyre screams "NINETEENTH CENTURY!". It's a bit wearing.
It's not an awful book or anything, but it is your standard Bronte stuff.

I didn't mind the book actually because it was different from Austen. I'm not the biggest fan of Austen personally. :shifty

I think I only enjoyed it because the entire time I was reading it my thoughts were: "Yes! This is something I can juxtapose with P&P. Oh My God, my essay is going to be so easy now. Wow"

I chose it as the novel to juxtapose with P&P for an essay in Literature last year. I like it more for the independence of Jane throughout the book, I don't mind her character. A bit dreary sometimes though. -shrug-

    Thankyou. =D

    And...
She's a strong woman, and I like her for that.
But she just goes over the top sometimes.

Overall, I like the book and everything thats added into like all the madness etc...

It bothers me how it took me so long to find this thread xD
But Jane Eyre is my FAVORITE book. I love the language and the immense details Bronte put into the pages. Jane is cautious, and that's what makes me adore her. I loved all of the characters, especially Adele and Mr. Rochester, and just thinking about the ending makes me smile. :) an amazing book, if I do say so myself.

Had to read Jane Eyre for my English Lit paper this trimester, which is the Mills and Boons of Uni papers ;) I thought it was quite good. :) At the moment, we've got an assignment and one of the things is to write a comparative essay, and I'm so glad I actually enjoyed Jane Eyre compared to Emma and Pride and Prejudice otherwise life would have been hell.

I think I definitely much prefer Bronte` over Austen.

I love this book. I couldn't get into it at first, so I gave up. But then I picked it up a couple of weeks later and I fell in love. I really enjoyed it.

I adore this book. I always thought of it as the romance novel for realists because even though the ending isn't exactly realistic, everything about it is. I just love it. It's definitely one of my favorites. Up there with Pride and Prejudice tehe
