My characters end up being my muses. That's why my stories are usually written in first person because it seems like they're telling me what's going on and I just write it down. My friends get creeped out a lot because I'll get surprised about a character and what they did. :XD
But also songs, movies and pictures also help give me the idea but it's usually a character.
Piano music or other soft music without lyrics does it for me. I turn on a long playlist with music like that and I'm usually able to write again even if I had a writer's block.
I came up with a song (it's not fully posted here, but there's a section of it in one of my other poems) just when I heard 2 girls at school talking about how they didn't want to have to play hockey and how they hoped it would rain. I just walked by, and one said, "it's already raining". And BAM! Inspiration!
Alot of the time, just everyday things inspire me. Just snippets of conversation, things I see written on desks or on toilet cubicles. Things that you just don't really notice until you think about it proplerly.
I used to be inspired by things I saw in movies or read in books. Nowadays I try to keep more of an open mind about the things that inspire me. Lately, whenever I have trouble writing, I'll do a random search on DeviantART to try and find a picture that might help inspire me to write. It's usually such a big help, too.
But mostly a lot of my inspiration comes from real life. Not just my own life, but also my family, friends and other people around me. Whenever I'm in the car or going for a walk, I like to just stare out the window at the houses going past and try to imagine what kind of people live and what their lives are like. I do that when I'm out shopping as well. I'll watch people when I'm having lunch or waiting in a queue at a store, for example, just looking around at all the people and come up with different scenarios in my head of the kinds of lives they have.
It's pretty interesting and it helps me develop all different kinds of relationships for my characters.
I find inspiration in small things. Like a line from a song or a book, or maybe something someone said. Sometimes even a certain note from certain songs makes me write like crazy. Or just hearing someone's voice.
I'll be listening to my iPod in the car and then I'll come up with a loose idea of a story. It actually just happened to me today. It's kind of crazy, actually.
Most of the time my muse is my hometown. Even though I hate it most of the time I draw inspiration from environments and characters from my own neighbors and scenery.
I don't have a specific person or object that influences my story writing or how I come up with ideas, but whenever I find a new artist (musically), I tend to take inspiration from their lyrics or persona or even their music videos. Currently, my muse is Lana Del Ray
