I think I'm gonna go with salt or something. Just 'cause my boyfriend never sleeps in his bed (he sleeps in mine) so I doubt it smells too much like him. The salt makes sense though and that's kind of what I was thinking. I noticed another little dog licking the carpet at someone else's place, so who knows.

I recently got my first two fish to start of my fish tank in my bedroom. We were told to start with only two, then go up to about six after a few weeks. Now, I've never had fish other than goldfish before, so I don't know if this is just normal behaviour, but one of the fish has started to bully the other. It chases the other and nips at it's fins if it gets too close, and sometimes just chases it for the fun of it. The species of fish is a Red High Fin Platy, which we were told were supposed to be very friendly in the tank. Is this normal behaviour in fish when there are only two? And will it change when we start putting more fish into the tank, or will there be an even larger battle for dominance?

Platys are semi-shoaling fish, so only having two is probably causing the aggression. Do you know the gender of your fish? If you have a male and a female, it could be mating behavior, or if it's just two males, it's probably agression that won't go away until they have other fish around.

There also isn't a reason to wait to add fish to your tank if it's cycled and you quarantined the fish to make sure they're not sick- when you have just a couple fish in one tank, they fight until someone dies. I'd add a couple more platys (unless you want all platys, 4 would be good) and some other stuff so there is enough going on in the territory that they don't want to fight over it.

I don't know how big your tank is, but if you want to add some variety, I'd suggest barbs (a hardy schooling fish, so you'll need several to prevent aggression), Gouramis ("kissing" gouramis are my favorite) and maybe even some other colored platys. It's really neat when you have the same type of fish in different colors, because they swim in their color groups and it looks neat (and if they breed, you can get some cool crosses)

I don't know the definite gender, but the shop that sold them to us keep the genders in separate tanks, and both fish came from the same tank. I'd say they were males, but I don't know about the behavior of female fish.

I also don't think the cycle has been going for long enough. We haven't completed the 10 days of adding Denitrol (the live bacteria) to the tank, and the water is still clearing up. I think we might have to wait a bit longer for more fish, but hopefully it shouldn't be so long that these two can really start getting aggressive with each other. We were thinking of getting a larger fish along with some smaller, to maybe ease out the aggression between the smaller ones because there would be a larger fish to distract them. Would this work? Or is it just easier getting a number of smaller fish that, like you said, mean there's enough going on to to stop them fighting over territory?

And the tank is 34l, not too big. We were told to get a better filter before putting any more than about five or six fish in the tank.

You can keep different gendered platys together as long as there is more females than males. Once it's not just one on one, they'll quit fighting. You can tell the gender difference in platys by their fin size. Female platys have three, equally sized fins close to their tails, and males have two large ones, and one that's smaller.

Fish size doesn't necessarily help aggression, because a little fish can still eat the fins off a large one, but the gouramis I suggest get pretty big if you just want the sizes to make the tank visually interesting. Once you have them in appropriate schools, that'll fix your aggression problems.

We've already gone to the vet about this, but my cat seems to be upset in the stomach a lot.
She got better on the anti-biotics but now she's off them and she's got diarrhea again. I'm not sure what to do. Should we take her to the vet again?
She's got clean water, constantly, two bowls of it. Her food is the usual food that we give her and she hasn't had any sudden changes in her food. But it's not all the same either. It's been in the past month.
She sneaks out sometimes, so I think she might have eaten something that's making her tummy upset (like the vet said too) but she's off the antibiotics now, and she's got it again.

So I've got two questions.
1. How can we keep her inside the yard?
2. Should we go the vet again?

There is nothing you can do to keep a cat inside the yard...all you can do is make her an inside cat and don't let her out unless she's supervised.

Did your vet test for worms or parasites? Antibiotics won't necessarily kill a parasite. But if she's still having symptoms, you should go back to the vet or maybe call and ask for another prescription. She may not have gotten a long enough regimen of antibiotics if the problem is bacterial. If she has diarrhea, she will get dehydrated, which can kill an animal as small as a cat, so it can be serious if it's chronic.

I see you live in Australia, but do you guys have something like Pedialyte? If you can get her to drink it, that will help keep her hydrated.

Anytime your dog is passing blood in stool, it's really imperative to see a vet. She could have a hernia, eaten a sharp object that caused a GI tear, a stomach/intestinal blockage, etc. Definitely not something that can be helped with internet advice.

If she has diarrhea and isn't eating/drinking, she needs to get to a vet for IV fluids or she could die of dehydration. In the meantime, you can try to force her to drink Pedialyte.

Any tips on how to get my cat to stop being so scared of the vacuum? Just the sound of someone moving it gets her running from the house, you don't even need to turn it on. Is it something she'll get used to over time or will she be forever afraid of it?

I think that most cats are instinctively petrified of vacuums / hair dryers (anything that makes a loud noise, really), but they can familiarise themselves with it and learn not to be as scared.

I would suggest leaving the vacuum out somewhere she frequents, and leave it there for a few days - let her investigate and smell it, and learn that it's not going to hurt her. Even bribe her with pieces of food and tell her that she's doing a good job and be very comforting with her. After a few days, start to move the vacuum around, while she's near it, while she's watching. Again, reward her with a few small pieces of food and comforting words.

She'll learn not to freak out, but as for when you're using it, she probably won't get used to it. She might be able to tolerate it every now and then, but it's not uncommon for cats to leave the room, or house, when someone is vacuuming. As long as she knows it isn't going to hurt her, she'll be fine.

I just moved recently (a little under a week now) and my 6 year old cat has been waking up at ~5 am and won't stop meowing for hours. She has food, water, and access to a litter box. She was never this vocal of a cat before. Any time before she made noise was for a specific reason, like her food dish was empty or the door to my bedroom was shut and she couldn't get out, things like that.

So has anyone else dealt with this? Will she get better just by us starting a routine (both of my mom and I have been off work this week) and how long did it take the cat to calm down?
