There was a huge controversy with James Frey over how quite a bit of A Million Little Pieces was utterly fabricated, so I wouldn't exactly call it true.

As for Go Ask Alice, I'm pretty sure that one's fiction as well.

Go Ask Alice is actually based off of a girl's journal. The journal was found (not sure if the author of it handed it it, or what :think:) and published, basically. There were some parts that were taken out and added, so some of it is fiction while other parts are not. :cute:

Bag of Bones by Stephen King gave me chills. :shock:

American Psycho is no doubt the most disturbing book I've ever read.
I loved it, though

Perfume: The Story of A Murderer by Patrick Süskind was pretty freaky.
It was the book that the Nirvana song Scentless Apprentice was based on, and it's about this guy in France in the 1800s or something that was born without a scent, and he gets into the perfume industry and he starts stalking and killing women to try and get their scent. Just the way it was written kind of got under your skin.

Wuthering Heights by one of the Brontes, Emily I think (?)

I was ten at the time. Probably not the best time to read such a book, but yeah. I got about halfway through and put it down for good. Can't remember why, but I think it was because it was so... weird. The only thing I remember was Cathy being all depressed and this girl Nelle. It was just so... weird.

The Devouring by Simon Holt. As much as I loved that book to death, some parts were really messed up.

1984 by George Orwell. It made me paranoid for a while.

I very much agree. But it was indeed, an excellent book. I plan on getting Soulstice the day it comes out.

Vonnegut's Slapstick. It was by far the weirdest book I ever read. I was weirded out from the start, but because it was something different than my usual reads, I forced myself to finish it. It was a book to make you think, but on the same time it just went down hill, page after page, not in the writing sense, he had a very interesting writing style, but no, the story. When you thought it was getting better, something happened and you were either depressed or disturbed. It was a truly intriguing yet 'out there' book.

Probably 1984 and Go Ask Alice. 1984 because it freaked the hell out of me how every single piece of history and writing gets manipulated, and you get arrested for saying the word "God" and the rest of it... Go Ask Alice because of the way she just threw herself away. It was really sad.

A Clockwork Orange didn't disturb me at all, actually. I loved it. Everybody else is like "OMG it was so fucked up!" but I really don't see what's so fucked up about it. Maybe the fact that I'm Russian helped me interpret it more correctly, leaving less room for imagination. But the only bit that made me want to hug somebody was the one where they smashed the writer's typewriter and ruined his story. Because I know how hard it is to write a piece.

My friend had to do a project on banned books / movies etc for a history project and she tricked me into reading it. But once you start it's like a horrific movie where you want to look away but you can't. Freakishly hypnotizing.

I read a book a while ago called The Wrong Hands by Nigel Richardson.. I got it because the cover look weird and different, and wow, was it different.

So weird! It wasn't really disturbing, or depressing, or whatever.. it was just incredibly odd.
When I finished it, I kinda went "...huh.. cool..."

I kinda liked it though. =]=]

A book called Forever by Judy Blume.
I'd read nearly all of her books, then I saw that one and was like 'oh, cool'. But when I read it, it was so cringe-worthy. Disstastefully written sex scenes made me just like :cheese: I don't think that I ever finished reading it. It was too fake

I've been wanting to read Johnny Get Your Gun, about the man whose limbs were removed and whose face was mutilated from the war.

The idea of not being able to communicate, drifting in and out of thoughts, not knowing the difference between sleep and reality, and all the while trying to stay sane... it sounds very upsetting, but I've heard the book is a masterpiece.

I've never really read anything that disturbing. I think Speak would be the most disturbing thing I've read, but it isn't that bad.

The Most Disturbing Book Ever: Try - Dennis Cooper.

I was nearly sick, I had to out i down and I have read and seen some fucked up stuff. My bf is in the paras and he's unhorrifyable. But even he read it and was disturbed.

I haven't really read any disturbing books, but I have wrote all of the books mentioned down to read at some point. I think all together I have at least 2 if not 3 years worth of books to read.
