An alternative solution is to record yourself talking about it. It feels weird at first to record yourself, but after a while one gets used to it. I tend to get a little paranoid of other people hearing me, though, so I don't use this method much.
That does sound like a very good idea.
I should try that, even if some people might think I'm a crazy lunatic because of it.

That happens to me all the time. :tehe:
But then I end up forgetting about parts of it, and try to piece it together.
No But it's like a puzzle with a quarter of the pieces missing. I just can't seem to figure it out. Sad

I was doing that last night on the way to the drive-in. I always seem to get better ideas thinking about it in my head then I do when I have pen and paper in front of me or my laptop. :l

This always happens to me. Always. If I'm not listening to the right music when I sit down and try to write, it just doesn't come out. I always have the idea in my head, and it's always spinning in my dreams and consuming my thoughts. But then once the perfect song comes on, it happens.
Sometimes it's just really hard to find the right song.

Happens to me all the time, and it's so annoying. I come up with an amazing idea, with the best word order but when I try to write it down it just sounds stupid.

This has been said before but try recording it as it comes. That way you can get the words out as they come.

I'm so glad this happens to other people (well, not really glad, because I know how much it sucks)! I see my stories in my head like a movie - I can visualize perfect detail and imagine amazing conversations. Then, I go to write it and...it just doesn't translate. Alas.

This happens to me constantly. I'm a very visual person, so I see the whole story playing and re-playing in my head like a movie and I get so flustered and anxious to write it all down as fast as it plays out in my head.

Frustrating is the least powerful word for it. :grr:
Dude, yes! I can picture exactly how I want something but as soon as I try to write it down the words disappear and then I'm left frustrated and angry... :grr:

Ugh, this is the most frustrating thing ever to happen to me. It's either I think of a scene in my head, and when I go to write it down, I draw a blank, or even worse, I can't find words to describe it to the best of my abilities.

It makes me disappointed in my self Disgust

Happens to me all the time. It mostly happens right before I fall asleep and then I keep adding to it and when I get home from school that day and try to write it, I just don't remember it. And when I try to base it off of it, I can't write it right. The way I like... need it to be.

I get this nonstop. I find myself calling it Writer's Syndrome. I wish there was an actual term for it.

It's never as good as it is in my head. And even if there's paper with me and I write it, it never comes out right.

I get this all the time but more so with poems than stories. It starts out as something simple and flows into something elaborate; no matter how close the paper and pen it never seems to come out the way I imagined it to be at first.

I find myself thinking in a mixture of sentences and movie scene's, and either way it never comes out perfect.
    It's maddening.

    I do it too.
It drives me crazy that a lot of the time, I can't get it out of my head, and onto the paper.

I'm the same way, I play it out in my head like a movie, I make myself feel as if I am in the scene or the character. Sometimes I completely forget it when I write it down, because I'm too busy thinking about what I'm writing it slips my mind what comes next. Usually the conversations slip from me first
This is what I try to do:
First I replay it over in my head until I find it to be in it's best form, then I jot it down on paper roughly. The main ideas, per say.
Next I pick the ending point of the chapter, usually a cliff hanger to keep my readers anxious for more.
Then I think of the characters emotions, which ones I want to display.
Lastly, I fill in the blanks and write it. Sometimes I go through a few drafts, that's why it's best to read it over before you go public.

I kinda went off topic ;/ sorry.

    ALL OF THE TIME.
When I have the dialouge and stuff.
    Then it disappears.
When I think of carrying a notebook, nothing comes to me.

I feel your pain. I do this all the time and it never sounds the same when I try to remember it later. I usually keep a little notebook or some scrap paper in my bag or something so if I'm bored and the magical narrator randomly turns on in my head, I have something to write it down on.

I think that's one of the things I hate about myself.
I end up 'writing' this incredible in my head, but when it comes down to actually writing it, it either comes out cliche or it doesn't come out at all.
