How is there 20 pages of this, there's nothing to even debate. Seems like common sense to have everyone equal regardless of sexual orientation, nationality and gender.

If it were truly common sense, gay people wouldn't be oppressed around the world and discriminated against. That's what has been discussed for the last 20 pages.

Is someone debating it's not common sense?

I don't think "common" sense exists, so I guess so. If it were common, as in universal to everyone, there would be no need or subject matter for this discussion, and most of this thread is a discussion, not necessarily a debate or argument.

I believe that common sense can be altered through influence upon being raised as a child.

Unfortunately, a lot of people are raised to think gay people are bad/evil/sinful/perverse.

To assume either about all of them is fallacious. It's one thing to generalise all gay people as evil/perverse/whatever, but it's just as daft to say "gay people are lovely" or something.

^I suppose that depends on your point of view about the nature of man. If you believe that man is inherently evil and sinful, it is perfectly reasonable to say that gay people are evil/sinful, as you make that generalization about everybody. If you believe that people are inherently good, it's perfectly reasonable to say the opposite because you would make that generalization about any given group of people.

I think her point was both generalizations are ridiculous. There are gay and straight and every other orientation of people who steal, murder, rape- whatever, and it's unrelated to their orientation,

But yeah, that's what I was driving at, basically. I have a gay friend who is one of the nicest people I've met, but I also know a gay guy from my school who is a proper nasty piece of work.

Hmm... Exactly. Just because one happens to be gay doesn't mean they're all automatically the same. How many straight people have the same personality? You can't group people together based on their orientation.
I go to my highschool's GSA and I'm bi. There's girls and guys I know who are also bi that ARE NOTHING LIKE ME. They're kind of psychotic. =D

I don't know why I insist you're a girl, I know I've done this before xD And your gender clearly says male. Sorry!

As for gay rights, I think the most harmful notion anyone can have in this debate is the notion that everyone who has a sexual orientation automatically has the same personality as every other person of the same sexual orientation.

And there's a lot of people who are raised to think of homosexuality (among other sexualities) is perverse and wrong- but it's the action that's perverse, not the person.

Another harmful notion is that all homosexual couples take part in the same sort of "action" as well. And I fail to see how homosexual sex is perverse.

Physical relations with another person of the same gender is seen as perverse by some (myself not included). And yeah, they might not do the same thing, but I fail to see how someone can call themselves in a relationship with someone and not be having some sort of physical intimacy.

Ah sorry, I interpreted it as you saying it actually was perverse. :)

Well, are old married couples not still technically in a relationship even if they're not physical intimate? I think people can have relationships without sex, and I think people probably do.
