Post anything and everything that inspires your writing here.

It can be a person, a place, a quote, an image, a website, a smell, a word, a song, etc.

    Anything! Weird

I search for photos on DeviantArt, and also music. I'm writing something that's kind of dark now and has a particular vibe, so I listen to a lot of Placebo and Garbage.

A man sitting in a dark room, sitting in front of his laptop, a coffee mug right next to him. Picturing that inspires me to write.

.. Now if only I can get a picture of that, that would totally make my day.

    It is wicked. Cheese

All things that fit along with the concept of being poor and half-stoned in a run-down apartment in the city, typing at a typewriter while my landlady cusses her husband down the hall.

Shifty I really do not know why I like that image so much. Anything that has that same feel inspires me. Grunge music, bricks, Fight Club, cigarettes, Dylan Thomas, the smell of coffee, gray colors, . Things like that. That's just in general.

For one specific set of characters that live in my hometown, it's hard rock music, football games, high school activities (dances/homecoming/etc), walking around my neighborhood, and Halloween costumes.

For Starling specifically, it's theology books. Quotes, Victorian research, reading about psychology, books, walking around my back yard (wooded areas), my English class, silent movies.

Men. I'm not sure why. I love to look at them (not in a perverted sense. XD), try to get inside their mindset, think like them.

Cigarettes. I don't even smoke, but somehow seeing cigarettes, pictures of people smoking, ashtrays, all of it makes me want to write.

Tom Waits. His music never fails to inspire some sort of story.

Jim Jarmusch's films. They're all so amazing and poetic. I love to have them playing in the background while I write.

Jack White. His music, his voice, his acting. Everything about the man makes me want to put pencil to paper (fingers to keyboard? XD).

When this takes place in the 50's-70's. In Love

Jack Kerouac. The "Beat" poets. Allen Ginsberg, William S. Burroughs, Charles Bukowski. That whole era, feel, mindset. It's grunge poetry. In Love

    EPIC.

And there's this one quote I really like...
"A man does not love a woman because she is beautiful. A woman is beautiful because a man loves her."

Old record stores. The way they smell (incense and your grandmother's attic, in case you were wondering), the people who run them, old milk-crates stuffed with vintage records. In Love All of it is just magical.
