Now now, there's no need to be snarky and subtly rude about it. I said that it furthers the feelings I have of her being a celebrity. Therefore, that's what I said and that's what I feel. Deal.
I was looking at it logically and it makes no sense, logically speaking.

    To you, that is.
    Amanda Young:
^ But that's a very strange thing to say, naturally people will ask you what you mean. I agree, twitter has nothing to do with anyone being or wanting to be a celebrity. I have a twitter, I don't want to be famous (not for having a twitter, at least). It was an argument that made little sense, so you were called out on it, no one was being snarky - except for you, now.
If that's the way you chose to see it then that's perfectly fine. Smile

I'm just applying deductive reasoning to it and using that, your premises would appear to be not strong.

Whilst it is perfectly true that many celebrities have Twitter accounts, the vast majority do not. It is merely a social networking tool and no greater indicator of celebrity than if she had a Facebook account.

Absolutely. But like I've said already, that's just what I think. Smile

Referring back to the original question; No, I would not.

If I had a sixteen year old daughter who wanted to marry a fifty one year old man, I would not, under any circumstances, give permission for her to marry him. Love schmut. No child of mine will get married at sixteen with no qualifications, value in the job market or employable traits. And if that man showed his face anywhere near my house or person, I would specially buy man eating dobermans and set them free on him.

I wouldn't care. No fucking way am I letting my child get married at sixteen, no fucking way.

All that aside though, I clicked those links and that girl does not look sixteen. He looks younger than she does, honestly but hey, who am I to judge, right?

To each their own, I reckon.

Unless the man poses a genuine threat to the girl (and we're talking genuine evidence that he poses such a threat), that's not exactly warranted, is it?

What happens when she turns 18 and she no longer requires parental consent?

By the way, try to watch your language in the discussion forums. :)

Why do you assume that as soon as a person is married they stop the rest of their lives?

I looked back over this story again, hoping to have a different view, but I still shuddered at the thought of it. I would not let my 16 year old daughter/son marry.

I get a feeling roux. was being deliberately hyperbolic. Well, I would hope so.

I don't think it's necessarily a abnormal assumption to make. Marriage is seen as "settling down", which basically means your life changes (read: dwindles), and instead of being a carefree singleton who has fewer responsibilities, you're becoming a Real Adult and are probably going to go on to have 2.5 kids and your sex life is going to go on the wane and you're not even going to have time to breathe let alone go back to school or graduate college.

I don't agree with all of that, but that's how the story goes in our society. Most people buy into that idea of marriage.

Me too, but even a sensible-sounding threat would be unnecessary unless he's actually dangerous.

^...I don't think pedos would have much interest in a girl that looked like that lol.

I'm sorry, but regardless of how she's dressed or acts, no one "screams for pedophiles to come after her". That's like like saying that any woman/man that dresses provocatively encourages people to sexual harass them, which isn't the case.

Since she married her husband, he isn't considered a pedophile, by law.

To be fair, Xsoteria's right; I mean, she looks like she's in her 20s. If she still looked 12 then it'd be a different story.

Pedophiles are after prepubescent children ('pedo' comes from the Greek word for 'child'), not late adolescents who look like they're 30.

I'd let her get engaged at sixteen, but to have an actual marriage ceremony? I think when she's eighteen and a legal adult, she can proceed with the final stage of the matrimonial process.

As long as everyone's consenting, why not? I personally would be a bit uncomfortable if I had a sixteen year old daughter who wanted to marry someone old enough to be her father or even possibly her grandfather, but I'd at least get to know him a little better to see if he's a worthy candidate. And by worthy, I mean that he treats her right and has a stable home environment.

Now, if my daughter was this girl in particular, I'd probably say no. Absolutely not. She can wait 'till she's eighteen, after all, if she's dressing like she's much older than that, she can wait the two years for her to be legally making her own decisions.

I would say no to getting married at 16. If they were truly in love, they can wait until she turns 18. Then she wouldn't need my permission. Getting engaged is fine at 16, but not marriage, in my opinion.

I'm such a skeptic to young love, which is probably why I wouldn't genuinely support marriage at 16,

I think everyone should wait until 18 to get married, because you never know what life experiances you're going to experiance, and you never know what things in your life are going to end up changing? Would I let my daughter marry a 51 year old man? NEVER. He's probably a pedophile wanting someone young, and I personally think it is disgusting and repulsive.

That man is old enough to be her grandfather, and he'll end up dying and she'll be a widow at about 36? Maybe 40-something? And she'll have to look after him and won't be able to live her life as a young adult because she'll be too busy looking after that OLD MAN.

It's not right, I'm sorry. It's gross, and wrong.

But at 18 you haven't experienced everything in life, in fact, you're just beginning your life, becoming a legal adult in some places etc,.
