Living in the Past

She just gave a silent nod as she watched the scenery pass by them. It was odd being in this part of that town during the day. Veronica was always used to working during the nighttime since it gave her an advantage, especially since she usually dealt with vampire cases. Most humans weren't out during the night time.

Nick followed behind her noting that she seemed displeased by her answer. Whatever, he wasn't going to start the fight. He had just scored a place to sleep and food to eat. He wasn't going to ruin his luck now. "What's first?"

Sam watched her out of the corner of his eyes. Honestly, this wasn't so bad. Working with a vampire wasn't as painful as he expected it to be - well, slightly as much. "What are you thinking?" He asked as she seemed deep in thought while looking out the window.

Emma sighed softly as she heard his words and she shrugged. "Just... Just get a cart. I'll do the shopping. She felt defeated. Why did she have to love him and have him not care? And now he had just walked all over her again.

She blinked for a moment to bring herself back to the present and pretended that it was nothing to be skeptical over. "Nothing of importance. Why?" Veronica replied before shifting slightly in the seat to find a more comfortable spot.

Nick gave a shrug back to her before going off to fetch a cart. What was her problem? All he was trying to do was help out and she seemed to be dissatisfied by the whole thing. He couldn't understand what she wanted from him.

Sam looked over at her. He knew she was reaching for an answer. He saw it in her that the answer didn't come so clearly and he smiled at her sympathetically. "Alright." He drove to the first club and parked. "Here we are!"

Emma nodded her head. She started to walk in and got the things that she wanted. Most of it were things she was craving... Chips, cookies... Anything she could get her hands on. She wondered if he would do her craving runs for her someday... She wished he could just love her.

Veronica seemed to be even more confused with his silence since he always had something to say in response to her. "Okay, then." She replied as she got out of the car to survey the area once more.

As she piled things into the cart, Nick noticed that it was all junk food and random things that he didn't even like. Was this even healthy for the baby to be succumbed to? "Are you sure that you should be having all these sweets?" He carefully asked not wanting to ruin the balance of the relationship.

Sam chuckled. He could tell that he was confusing her and that made him laugh. "How many humans have you dealt with in the past?" He asked curiously.

Emma rolled her eyes as she heard his words and she shrugged. "Why not?" She asked softly. "The baby will be okay - it's what I need! And I'm taking supplements for the baby too... She or he will be fine!"

"Not many... If I had to, it would be for an interrogation. The human would give up the information quickly anyway." She replied as she crossed her arms over her chest. Veronica wondered why he was suddenly curious in her track record with humans.

Nick glanced down at the cart that was basically sweets and oily products before looking back at her,"I just don't want the baby developing diabetes or anything like that..."

Sam chuckled and nodded his head. "Aw, did the humans find you intimidating?!" He teased with a laugh. "That's funny - because I'm not scared of you - if you haven't figured that out already!" He winked.

Emma shrugged. Oh, so now he wanted to control the cravings she was having. Hell - if he didn't want that, then she didn't want her child to be anything like his or her father! No... That wasn't true. She loved Nick - she just wished he wouldn't be abusive to her. "I swear - the baby will be fine! It's the mommy I'm worried about right now - but I'm not going to do anything that will harm the child. I'll watch what I'm eating!"

Veronica gave a glare over to him as he mocked her,"Of course they did. I think that you're one of the only humans that don't which makes you odd." She huffed out a sigh before moving towards the club.

"Okay, alright. I'm just making sure." He held up his hands in defeat not wanting to make the situation any worse especially since people were starting to notice their small argument. "You don't have to be so defensive, Emma. It was just a question." For a second, he wondered if the pregnancy triggered mood swings.

Sam chuckled as he heard his words and shook his head as they walked in. "I am not odd!" He said with a smile. "I don't get the point of being scared of you!" They walked into the club.

Emma blushed a little as people started to stare and she sighed. "I'm sorry... It's just hard... I'm doing the best for this baby that I can - and you don't have to question that!" I blushed. It was so hard. She needed support.

"That mentality may get you killed one of these days. I know that we said to forget the fact that our races don't mix well, but Vampires shouldn't be under estimated." She warned him as her expression fell to one of complete seriousness.

Nick just gave a silent nod before pushing the cart along to make it seem like the little spat had ended. "Don't raise your voice. It attracts unwanted attention." He muttered as they moved further away from the people whose attention they had caught. If this is how they were without his temper, it would only get worse.

Sam shrugged and shook his head. "I never said that I didn't estimate you could kill me in two seconds!" He teased. "Probably faster if you wanted too! Now - what is our plan of attack, captain?" He teased.

Emma sighed a little as she heard his words and she shrugged. "I don't want you to try and control me..." She said with her hand on her stomach. "I was doing just fine when you said you didn't want this baby, and I'm okay now!"

"Well, that's what it sounded like to me." She slightly regretted even bringing up the fact since she was sure that he already knew anyway. "Attack? I think we should just try to talk with the owner or something for now. Maybe see if they have surveillance camera that we may be able to take a look at. I'd rather not bring up a commotion if we do not have to."

Nick gave a sigh back since she was taking his words the wrong way,"I'm not trying to control you. I think it would be on our best interest to not attract attention like that. That's all." He was already getting a headache from spending a few hours with her let alone years.

Sam chuckled at her words and rolled his eyes. "Attack was a... A figure of speech. I didn't mean it as if we were actually going to attack anyone - that would be absurd!" He chuckled and rolled his eyes. "Let's go talk to the owner now."

Emma sighed and then nodded her head. "Then let me do things on my own... It will be alright - I'm doing everything to carry a healthy baby..." She said softly and then sighed. "I don't like the attention - but I'm pregnant... I'm going to have to get used to the attention."

Veronica wanted to smack her head against a wall since he had gotten her again on one of those 'figures of speech'. Why didn't he just speak in plain, simple English? "Ugh, I-I knew that. I was just playing around with you." She quickly hurried inside not wanting to talk about it anymore.

"I... Okay, fine. I'll let you do things your own way." He just completely gave up not wanting to lose the deal that they had just came up with. "Yeah, I know."

Sam chuckled at her as she sped off and he followed her slowly. "Yeah - of course you were." He chuckled. They found the manager inside and were led to the owner.

Emma sighed and shook her head. "I'm sorry... It's just hard okay?" She said softly. "I don't know how to handle it. These pregnancy mood swings are killing me..."

"We have to see the security footage from last night as there may have a been a girl who was here last night that was murdered." She told the owner who seemed to be displeased with the idea of a vampire inside of his office. He literally looked like he wanted to spit on her face from the hatred. Looking at her, he turned back to what he was doing as if she hadn't been there. Veronica sighed since she did get this type of treatment sometimes and looked over at Sam to help her out.

Nick just wished that she wouldn't take it out on him in front of all these people and reached over to gently hold her hand. "I know it's hard on you, but we're going to get through this, alright?"

Sam rolled his eyes at the way that the owner acted. She was just a vampire... That didn't make her a monster. He hated that from guys like that. Honestly, he might hate those vampires, but he didn't care at this point. "Hey - she's just a vampire, that doesn't make her any less of a human being!" He complained and shook his head. "Just let us do our thing and we will get out of your way!" He argued angrily.

Emma sighed at his words. She wished he wouldn't hold her hand. It made this feel normal - and it wasn't normal... He didn't care for her. Not at all. "I guess so," she said, grasping his hand tightly in hers.
