Being shaken into his arms halted the trigger enough. "Okay-" She murmured bleakly, meeting his wide gaze.

He sighed and released her, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to be so rough." He stoked her arms where his hands had been. "It's just that they terrify me," he admitted, embarrassed.

He looked at her and smiled, a gentle one, "Be my friend? I haven't had many, being stuck here and all." His smile had transformed into only half of what it had been before, being unable to really feel it at all.

"'Course. I'm your friend already!" She sounded absolutely chipper. "I like you. You're soft at heart an' you make me smile."

A smile, a real one, spread across his face and he kissed her cheek. "Yay," he giggled girlishly, suddenly stopped to cover his mouth and looked at her with wide eyes. "I've never made that noise before." Max uncovered his mouth to show a lopsided grin.

"Never?" Delilah pitched doubtedly. Her face reddened as his lips met her cheek. It was rare she blushed - as if she'd be embarrassed by affection.

Shaking his head back and forth, he replied," Never. Never, ever, ever, never." He could feel the heat rising on his cheeks as he saw Delilah's blush, and looked down quickly and nervously. Suddenly there was an odd feeling at the pit of his stomach.

"Nope." He grinned at the girl in front of him. "Do you think we weren't sent to each other on purpose?" Max bit the inside of his cheek. He didn't know why he suddenly asked that, but he felt as if it was a pretty important question.
