"I think," Delilah drawled, "I think it was fate." Leaning forward, she brushed her three middle fingers through his hair and set her mouth on his, kissing him slowly.

Max froze in place, not fully understanding what was happening. He'd been kissed before, but it had never been like this. It had never been gentle or sweet or inviting. He slowly kissed her back, gently brushing his lips against hers. Itching to run his hands through her hair.

Hands lifting to place themselves at either side of his face, she moved her mouth away from his, guiding it to bestow a kiss upon the tip of his nose, and then his forehead. "Was that okay?" Delilah murmured against his forehead.

"Y-Yes," Max managed to stammer out, his breathing completely out of control. His heart thudded in his chest and he yearned to kiss the girl again. So he did; taking her by the shoulders he brought his lips crashing down and hers.

Lips moving with grace against his, she angled her head to kiss him harder, desk creaking with their weight. Delilah's arms forced themselves around him, urging him closer. All those wasted kisses...

They lead to this. It was as bright and plentiful as her first kiss.

All the kisses he'd received before. They had been harsh, forced, and completely unwanted; this was sweet, amazing, and he couldn't get enough of it. He groaned as she moved closer, his heart threatened to burst out of his chest as his hands clutched at her shoulders.

A rise for them would come once people were alerted of their absences.

If he thought his heart was going to burst then, then surely it would have when an orderly came barging into the room. He jumped backwards, quicker than he thought possible, and toppled over the desk in the process. His eyes darted between the two adults at the door and Delilah. His heart threatened to jump into his throat as he noticed there was no escape. One orderly headed for Delilah and the other aimed for him. He was quickly caught by the collar of his grey t-shirt and yanked upwards. He glanced over to see who held him up; it was the man who had caught them in the closet, his name tag read: Derek. Max's troubled blue eyes met dark brown - almost black - eyes that looked hungry for revenge.

If they thought Delilah was as tame as her files stated, they were as wrong as wrong. Her hands went for the man's face, clawing and distracting ferociously. Her arms were thrust behind her back, and the bloodied orderly hissed: "We need to cut this one's nails," a lid from a syringe between his teeth. He pressed it into her arm, and her growling and spitting dropped several levels, her round eyes pressed toward Max as she slumped over, dopey and quivering. "'M sorry. I just want... I just want my doggy. I just want to see Dixie. I wanted... I just want to hold her. Why won't you let me go?" Her voice dropped to a static, catatonic whisper of, "I just wanna go home...I want us to go home. Homehomehome.."

Max lashed out at the man named Derek, desperately trying to get to Delilah. He wanted to hold her, to tell her it was okay and that one day they could go home. Instead of breaking free he managed to receive a black eye instead. "Sorry, kiddo. Can't give you what we gave her. I want you to be able to feel your twenty lashings." The man said with malice. Max tried to contain the whimper but it managed to escape, a sick look of satisfaction appearing on Derek's face.

"No." She whined. "Take 'im to the library! Let him learn! Show him love!" She was snapped against the orderly's chest the moment she attempted to reach toward Max. "I want him - I want him!" She prattled like an furious toddler.

The man holding up Max looked over at Delilah maliciously and barked, "Take her to her room, I don't care. Just get rid of her." He turned his eyes on Max, who just looked at emptily. Max had already left this world. He no longer heard what was going on around him nor did he see it. Instead, he was in a field of daisies laying flat on his back, staring straight up at the puffy white clouds in the bright blue sky. He stretched out and felt his hand touch another. Looking over, he saw Delilah. She was in his happy place with him, smiling at him. He smiled back, a warm fuzzy feeling beginning to form.

"Yes, sir-" The awestruck orderly murmured, struggling with her weight as he heaved her toward the door. Her voice sang toward them, loopy and deranged: "you're gonna regret this. You're gonna regret it!"

The warm feeling begin to burn. The source being his back. He refused to come back reality. He didn't like it there; he wanted to stay here, in his happy place, with Delilah. The lashings coninued until there were twenty crisscrossed welts across his back, behind, and legs. He whimpered as he was tossed into his room.

It was midnight, the horizon dark and all too cheery for the patients, caught in this horrendous purgatory. A shadow loomed over Max's bed, tall, willowy - undeniably feminine. "Max. Max!" Delilah whisper-yelled, pressing her hand over his mouth to smother any sound of surprise. Her eyes were wet and dead, skin sallow and pinkish with flush. She blinked down at him, mouth twitching involuntarily. "Maxxie, we're leavin' right now. Max. Max-" She stuttered, blinking to clear the warp of words from her mind to her mouth.

Max's eyes shot open and looked up at the girl standing in front him. It took him a moment to realize who she was, once he recognized her he let out a puff of breath he didn't realize he had been holding. He took her hand into his as he removed it from his mouth and looked around quickly. "What do you mean, we're leaving?" He eyed the shadows suspiciously - they always seemed to be the ones to give away your secrets.
