"Really?" It was information that Clara obviously hadn't known. She was surprised that it hadn't come up seeing as Foggy had asked her where she'd graduated from. It wasn't a big deal or anything though, and having something in common with Matt probably put her in better standing now. She wasn't worried about gaining approval from him, though Foggy kind of had left him out of the loop when he'd hired her. "Thank you." She said, a small smile on her face. "Now you see why I hired her. Polite, smart, and I figured Karen would like having another woman around as well." Foggy said.

"Well, let's just hope Clara picks things up quickly... The sooner we get this practice organized, the better." It was no secret that the practice was in a more complex situation than it needed to be. There had barely any cases coming to them, yet they managed to get mixed up with one of the most vicious practices in the city. They needed to get themselves up and running, quickly... It was bad enough Matt had his own physical battles to deal with, trying to find Fisk.

"I think we're in luck, she seems like a fast learner. Isn't that right, Clara?" Foggy asked her. Clara smiled slightly. "I've been told that on several different occasions, yes." She said. She knew that their practice was extremely new, and that it probably wasn't the most ideal situation at the moment, but she saw it as a way for her to get her feet wet so to speak. She was just an intern after all. "See? She's a fast learner, we have nothing to worry about. My hiring skills are clearly up to par." Foggy said.

"Well, let's have Karen show her the ropes, then I'm sure we can stretch ourselves to an office 'Welcome' lunch." Matt smiled. Being such a small firm, there was the added bonus of really becoming close with everyone who worked there... Considering there was only three, now four, of them. It made sense to welcome Clara into their small family quickly, so they could function well together... And Matt wanted to get to know her, beyond work. He'd become wary of who to trust, and who to doubt.

Foggy nodded. "Karen, if you don't mind?" Clara sent a small smile over to the redhead who, up until this point, had been fairly quiet. She wondered if she was always like this. "No, of course not. There isn't much to show anyway." Karen returned the smile and led Clara away from Matt and Foggy as she started showing the other woman around the small office.

Matt couldn't help but wonder for a moment if Foggy had told Clara that he was blind. People were often awkward when they first met, and they realised. It wasn't something that bothered him anymore, but Clara hadn't even seemed momentarily phased... And it was a nice change. Even Karen had been slightly awkward at first. "She seems like a nice girl," Matt mused quietly, fingers busy once again as he skimmed through the braille in the folder.

"And she has a beautiful accent too." Foggy said, quoting what Matt had said minutes earlier, smirking ever so slightly. "Hitting on our new intern, how unprofessional, Murdock." He was only joking of course, though he also had learned and accepted rather quickly that, even when he wasn't trying to, he seemed to have women swooning. It was the wounded hero thing that he had going for him. Chicks really dig that kind of stuff for whatever reason.

Hearing Foggy teasing him brought a wide smile to Matt's face. The two of them always ragged on one another, especially when Foggy was under the impression Matt was some sort of serial womaniser. "I know, I know," He admitted, shaking his head. "When you're blind, you kinda start paying more attention to things like accents." British was definitely one of his favourites, and he wasn't going to deny that... "I can tell a lot about people from the way they speak." One of the first things he'd noticed from Clara's voice was that she seemed honest, and actually rather sweet.

"So, what can you tell me about our new intern then, huh?" Foggy asked curiously. He knew that Matt knew that he was teasing. His friend didn't even have to really try sometimes and he still managed to get more attention with women than Foggy did. Matt seemed to have really good intuition, and he wondered what he thought about Clara. Foggy thought that she had potential, and he was curious as to whether or not Matt saw that same potential or something else in her.

"She's honest..." Matt continued to smile, taking a break from reading through the case file in front of him. Part of him felt reserved about letting someone else into their little family of a law firm. He had learnt not to trust people so easily, especially with his ability to detect deceit. Clara seemed different though. From his immediate impression of her, he didn't feel as though she had any sort of ulterior motive, and it didn't trigger off any sense of paranoia. "And eager." From a professional point of view, it was good to have someone on board who seemed excited to get to work, even amongst the limitations of such a small firm.

Foggy nodded. "Honest and eager. That's all you're gonna give me, Murdock? Really?" He knew that Matt didn't trust very easily, and he understood why he'd seemed a bit hesitant at first when he learned that Foggy had hired Clara, but he thought that he'd made a good choice. As far as he could tell, his friend thought so too. Matt would have made it very obvious if he wasn't happy with the decision, and he had yet to really say anything of the negative sort.

Matt let out a soft chuckle, shaking his head. "What else do you want me to say, Foggy? I can't hear the color of her hair or eyes." Appearance never bothered Matt. It simply wasn't anything for him to concern himself with. "She's our intern. She seems like a positive addition to the firm." He wasn't about to dive into reasons why Foggy should have consulted him on it first, not when Clara was in their small office space. It wouldn't be fair on her, nor would it be very professional. He couldn't blame Foggy for hiring someone else to make the workload a little lighter, not when he had been turning up late. It was hard not to let being a vigilante at night cut into being a lawyer during the day.

"You're okay with me hiring her, right?" Foggy asked. He knew that he probably should have discussed things with Matt first, but since the Fisk trial, Nelson and Murdock had been getting a lot more business, and he figured that having someone else around the office could be a good thing. Especially someone like Clara. She seemed intelligent and driven, and Foggy figured that she'd mesh well with everyone here. "I know that we probably should have discussed things first, but Clara's great, and I think she'll be a big help around here." He figured that Karen would enjoy having another woman around as well.

"Are we paying her?" It was an important question to ask. Despite the business they were getting, money was still tight in their law firm. Bananas and crumbles weren't going to pay their own fees. There were other things to consider, such as electricity and rent. It seemed unfair to not pay Clara, but that was the nature of the majority of internships... And Matt wasn't sure they could actually afford a paid intern. "She seems like a great addition to the team, Foggy. I don't doubt your decision in hiring her."

"I know that money's still kind of an issue around here, but I figured we should at least give her something." Foggy told his friend. They were just barely getting by, but he really didn't like the idea of hiring someone as an intern and not paying them. "I already talked with Clara about it, and she was willing to do it for free, but I told her that was out of the question. I figured you and I could come to some sort of an agreement with her on that." He might have hired her without his friend's input, but he figured that her pay was something they could, and should, discuss at some length.

Considering they'd both been unpaid interns, it seemed unfair to expect the same from Clara. It was a rough period of work experience for the both, and he didn't want to put someone else through the same thing. They were a small firm and they were all about helping the smaller people. It wasn't as though there was a tough competition to be working for them. "Do you reckon she'll take payment in the form of fruit baskets?" He joked quietly, smiling across at Foggy again. There was bound to be a solution to the payment situation, but it didn't mean Matt was gonna let it go by without teasing Foggy first.

"If not, she might take it in the form of pies." Foggy said, with a laugh. He was certain that they'd figure out a way to pay Clara. He knew that things were tough right now, but they'd figure it out. He was sure of it. "What're we taking in the form of pies?" Foggy glanced or to Clara and Karen who had obviously just finished showing Clara around the office. It was a small establishment, so he wasn't at all surprised that it hadn't taken long at all. "We were deciding whether you're take payment in the form of fruit baskets or pies." Foggy told her.

"Unfortunately, we can't offer you a split payment plan of fruit baskets and pies until you've worked with us for a while longer," Matt joked along. He figured introducing Clara into a friendly and joking environment would be better than making her feel like she was the odd one out. It would certainly be easier for her to settle. Matt remembered what it was like to be an intern; people considered you their coffee boy, and occasionally granted you with luxury chores such as photocopying or document running. In such a small firm, it wasn't really necessary to step on the newcomers like that. It wasn't helpful or 'character building'.

"I can't get paid in both? Well, that settles it then. I no longer wish to work here." Clara joked, a smile tugging at the corners of her lips. She had a feeling that she was going to like it here. She'd done a few internships throughout her collegiate career, and none of them made her feel as comfortable as she already did here. She liked the atmosphere and that it all wasn't overly serious, and she also liked that she was being treated almost as an equal instead of as an intern. She knew that Nelson & Murdock wasn't a large law firm, and it was fairly new, but that all was still very important to her.

Faking a sigh of exasperation, Matt threw his hand up in frustration. "See, Foggy? I told you that plan would cost us." There was already a sense of ease with their new intern. She didn't think they were unprofessional for having such an easy-going attitude, and they were relieved she understood their payment situation. As fun as it would be to sit around and joke all day, eventually, they were going to have cases walk in. It may take a while, but they needed to be prepared for it. "So, Clara," Matt started, a hand running over his tie to straighten it. "What kind of law cases are you interested in?" It would be good to delegate her. If she had a passion for something, she'd be more willing to help them out on certain cases.
