Kat frowned. "There are still good people out there, Derek." She said quietly. She knew that Kate had made it difficult for him to see the good in people anymore, and she hated that that was the case. If she ever saw that woman, well, she didn't know what she'd do, but she'd certainly have something to say to the bitch. "I know that it's difficult for you to see that now, but it's the truth. There are still some good people out there, I can promise you that much."

Stiles chuckled slightly. "You think so?" He asked. He knew that they were getting somewhat sidetracked right now, though he wasn't very surprised. Sidetracked was practically his middle name along with distracted. They had some time to get this project done though, so he really wasn't all that worried. They at least had started it and that was what mattered. "I'll definitely keep that in mind, I guess." He grinned slightly, eating a few of his fries.

Rebeckah nodded with a smile, "Yeah I do." She replied back with a laugh. When he started eating his fries she raised an eyebrow at him, "Wanna spare one of those? I forgot to get myself some before I left." She asked with a smile and opened her mouth, indicating for him to throw one towards her so she could catch it.

Derek nodded, "I know. You're one. You're the only one." He stated and then nodded at her words and sighed, "Lets move onto a lighter topic, huh? Like how was school?" He asked. He wanted to move the topic away from him and his failures. He would rather talk about her. He would always rather talk about her.

Kat shrugged her shoulders. "It wasn't so bad. I mean, like I said earlier, I did change my major five times before I settled on clinical psychology, there were quite a few all-nighters, a few mental breakdowns, some questionable decisions made, but that's college." She told him. She figured that changing the subject would be for the best right now. She could tell that Derek didn't want to talk about himself and the fire or anything about his family right now, and she understood why completely.

"You don't need to ask. You did supply them." Stiles pointed out before tossing a fry to her, chuckling a bit when she caught it in her mouth. He knew that they had both kind of forgotten about the project for the time being, but he highly doubted that she minded. He knew that he didn't. "Am I the only one who finds this the least bit strange?" He asked her curiously. "Us being civil?" He'd almost forgotten about the truce they'd come up with. He really didn't mind being civil with her though. She really wasn't half bad.

Rebeckah smiled at his words before catching the fry in her mouth and eating it. She had just finished it when he spoke again and she nodded at his words, "Oh my God I feel so weird I'm not going to lie. Like we've been at each others throats for as long as I can remember and now us just kind of putting it on pause for a little for the project is just so weird to me." She said. It felt weird for her to realize but the way they were being it was like they were friends and had been for a long time.

Derek laughed as she spoke and nodded, "It sounds like you liked it. I always had a hard time picturing you leaving to go to college. I just always figured that you would stay here when you went. This way I would still get to see you all the time, because you know I wasn't going. There would be no way of getting me to go. I don't think college is the right place for someone like me." He said with a small laugh. College was just too normal, and he was definitely far from normal.

Kat smiled. "I did actually." She told him. She had enjoyed college, though Beacon Hills had come to mind on a number of different occasions. She had never forgotten about this town or Derek. She doubted that that was something that was even remotely possible. "I think you could have done it." She said. "Gone to college. Your mom thought so too." Talia and Kat always saw so much potential in Derek. "When you actually put your mind to it and did your schoolwork, you weren't half-bad. That could be because I was an amazing tutor though." She grinned slightly, punctuating her words with a quiet laugh.

Stiles laughed. "I'm glad that I'm not the only one who finds this weird." He said. She was right, they had been at each others throats for as long as he could remember. It was so strange being civil towards each other, though he had to admit that he really didn't mind it. Rebekah was actually a pretty chill person when he took the time to get to know her. "Don't worry, we'll go back to hating each other after this." He smirked.

Rebeckah laughed at his words and nodded, "Yeah it's kind of weird." She said before he spoke again and smirked. That smirk was kind of cute. Wait what? Where the hell did that come from? She was going to ignore the fact that she just thought that. This was Stiles we were talking about. Nothing about him was cute. They were just being civil to each other. Nothing more. Now was not the time for these stupid thoughts, "I'm sure we will." She said with a laugh.

Derek shrugged at her words, "Maybe. But I just never saw myself as a college person. College was so normal for everyone and what I am isn't normal." He stated before raising an eyebrow at her words, "But I'm pretty sure with you as my tutor I got more off track than I did when I actually tried to do the school work." He said with a small laugh, clearly teasing her.

"Normal's boring." Kat argued. That was always her response to comments like that when he made them. There were so many instances when they were younger when Derek thought negatively of himself because of who he was. Kat always managed to convince him that he was wrong though. She always showed him that what he was didn't make him a freak, and that she didn't care about what he was. He was still her best friend no matter what. She rolled her eyes in response to his later words, elbowing him lightly. "Shut up, assface." She shot back.

"I think that kind of weird is an understatement." Stiles said, chuckling slightly. She was right though, there wasn't anything about this current situation that wasn't weird. Little did he know that there wouldn't be much about his life from here on out that wouldn't be weird and that this was probably more normal than any of the rest of it would be. "We'll have all these pent up insults for each other, it should be interesting." He laughed once more.

Rebeckah laughed, "Yeah or maybe some weird Twilight Zone thing will happen and we won't like completely hate each other anymore." She said and laughed again, "I mean I doubt it'll happen but that would be something crazy right?" She added and shook her head. It was weird that her and Stiles were just openly talking about the fact that they didn't like each other to each other. She had never really had anything like this happen to her before so this was all strange to her.

Derek rolled his eyes at her words, "You clearly haven't changed at all." He said. She always used to say the same thing to him when they were younger and he would talk about how being what he was wasn't normal. She always did that kind of stuff for him to make him feel better. It was why she was his best friend, "Wow great choice of insult." He teased.

"You say that like it's a bad thing." Kat said, nudging him again. She knew that he actually probably was thankful that she hadn't changed. She'd always been able to make him feel better about who he was when he started doubting himself. "My insults also haven't changed." She laughed quietly. She'd missed this. She'd missed him, and despite her reasoning for being back in Beacon Hills, she was thankful for this time spent with Derek.

Stiles laughed. "I guess that's a possibility." He said, punctuating his words with a slight shrug of his shoulders. "That would be really freaking weird if it did happen. Definitely Twilight Zone worthy like you said." He popped a few more fries into his mouth. "That would definitely be crazy, I'm sure we'd surprise all of our friends if we suddenly stopped hating each other." He shook his head at the thought. It wasn't like it was actually going to happen.

Rebeckah laughed at his words, "Could you imagine the looks on their faces if we were actually like nice to each other during class one time. I'm sure Danny would think I was on drugs or something. He would have a heart attack. I think Scott would just give us the look because he's been trying to get us to be friends for years." She said with a grin. It was unlikely that any of this would happen. She knew that once this project was over that her and Stiles would go back to where they were and just hate on each other all the time.

Derek shrugged, "Yeah but I never said it was a bad thing. That's just the way it sounded. You know what they say about assuming, Kat." He teased with a laugh before he nodded, "Yeah your insults are still just as bad as they were when we were kids. That's something I don't know how you didn't pick up from me. My insults are actually pretty good if I do say so myself."

Kat let out a quiet laugh and shoved him lightly. "Were you always this much of an asshole?" She asked, her tone teasing. "Because I'm beginning to reconsider this friendship completely." She knew that he'd know that she was only joking. She'd never actually mean something like that. His friendship meant a great deal to her. That was why, even when they'd lost contact for six years, she still considered him her best friend.

Stiles laughed. "Scott wouldn't let us hear the end of it if that were to actually happen." He said, shaking his head. His friend's comment about sexual tension came to mind momentarily, but he quickly shook the thought from his head. There was zero sexual tension between him and Rebekah. Nada. Zilch. Zip. He had no idea what Scott was getting at, but he knew that his friend was wrong. He knew that they weren't likely to ever actually become friends. This was all for the sake of the project and that was it.

Rebeckah nodded at his words, "Oh I know. After Danny would call me out for being on drugs, he wouldn't ever let me get the end of it. It would just be comment after comment after comment." She stated with a laugh. She had remembered once when Danny had said something about her and Stiles just getting it over with and having sex to get the tension out of the way. Rebeckah almost threw up at the comment. There was no sexual tension between Rebeckah and Stiles at all. None.

Derek nodded, "Yeah I was but you always brought out the best in me." HE said with a grin before she said she would rethink the friendship, "Well I can tell you that you won't find another friend as negative as I am to bring down your moods. That's the best kind of friend you need in your life." He said with a laugh then shook his head at her.

Kat smiled. "You're damn right, I did." She said, letting out a quiet laugh. "Of course, because who wouldn't want a friend to bring down their good mood constantly?" She shook her head, laughing once more. She'd missed joking around with him like this. "I really did miss you, you know. Even though you were an asshole and never returned any of my phone calls and I was pretty freaking mad at you for that for a while." Needless to say, he was forgiven now. She assumed that he would know that though.

"Scott wouldn't ever let me hear the end of it. I'm surprised he hasn't pushed the sexual tension comment more than once today." Stiles said, shaking his head slightly. His friend could be pretty damn relentless when he wanted to be, though he supposed that today wasn't one of those days. "I don't think that any of our friends would let us hear the end of it though, to be honest." He let out a low chuckle, shaking his head once more.

Rebeckah laughed at his words and nodded, "I am too." She admitted with a laugh. She was honestly surprised that somehow Scott didn't end up setting the two up on a blind date. It was something that Rebeckah wouldn't put pass school, "I think the whole school would go into a meltdown because I think everyone knows of how we feel about each other."

Derek laughed at her words before she spoke and said how she missed him, "I missed you too, Kat. I'm sorry that I basically shut you out. It was just a lot to handle." He said. Everything came down on him like shitstorm and he didn't know how to handle it, so he became a loner and shut everyone out of his life.

Kat shook her head. "I don't want you to apologize, I get it. I just missed you is all." She told him, punctuating her words with a slight shrug of her shoulders. "Even if you are kind of an asshole sometimes." She added, a faint smirk tugging at the corners of her lips. She truly had missed him though, and she was glad to be back in Beacon Hills. She knew that it wasn't a permanent thing, though she did plan on sticking around for a while.

Stiles laughed. "You're probably right." He said. Just about everyone knew that they couldn't stand each other. She couldn't even imagine what they'd all do if he and Rebeckah actually started to get along. "I think Hell would probably freeze over before us being civil towards each other became a permanent thing to be honest with you." He punctuated his words with a slight laugh.

Rebeckah nodded at his words, "If you and I actually become civil with each other permanently then I would suggest you ask out Lydia because if something as crazy as us being nice can happen maybe that could actually happen to." She said with a laugh before she leaned up from the floor and stole one of Stiles' fries again.

Derek smiled and shook his head, "Get used to it. Asshole is basically in my everyday mood now." He said and laughed before he looked over at her, "So how long do you plan on being here?" He asked curiously. He hoped she would stick around for a little because it was really nice having her back in his life again.

Kat rolled her eyes playfully in response to his words. "Please, you can put up the tough guy act with everyone else, but we both know that that's not going to work with me." She said, punctuating her words with quiet laughter. "I'm not sure to be honest with you." She shrugged her shoulders. "Probably at least for a little while." She wished that she could stay permanently, but she did have a life back home in Boston that she couldn't just leave behind.

Stiles raised his eyebrows in surprise at her words. He hadn't expected her to mention Lydia or him asking her out at all. "What happened to her not knowing that I even exist?" He asked her curiously, recalling what she'd said to him earlier on that day. "I mean, I guess if we follow that logic then you're right. Maybe I do have a chance with her, but who really knows." She was probably right, the pretty strawberry blonde probably had no idea who he even was.

Rebeckah frowned a bit at his words before she nodded, "I'm sure she knows you exist. I just said that 'cause I'm a bitch." She said. She didn't know why she was saying that to Stiles, he already knew it, and he had said it on a few occasions when they were arguing. Most of the time it didn't affect her because she knew that she couldn't let Stiles get under her skin, but sometimes it really hit her hard.

Derek laughed at her words, "True. I have a hard time being a full on asshole around you." He laughed and then nodded when she answered his question, "Well I'm glad you're sticking around for a little while. It'll be nice to have you around. To have anyone around, to be honest. I've been a bit of a loner for a little while."

Kat laughed. "That's because I'm always putting you in your place when you do start acting like an asshole." She said, a faint smirk tugging at the corners of her lips. "Well, you're going to be stuck with me at least for a little while, Hale." She knew that he wouldn't want her to, however she kind of wanted to help him figure out who was responsible for killing Laura. She knew that he'd think it was too dangerous, but she could be extremely stubborn and hard-headed when she wanted to be.

Stiles shrugged. "That's debatable." He said. He wasn't so sure that Lydia actually knew who he was. He wanted to believe that she did, however he couldn't help thinking that she'd simply laugh in his face if he were to ever ask her out. "I think the likelihood of me going out on a date with you is greater than the likelihood of me going out on a date with Lydia Martin is to be honest." He laughed quietly.

Rebeckah flushed at his comment about going on a date. She didn't know why but it just made her blush. She shook her head, "Well that's never going to happen either so I guess you're going to be single forever." She teased with a small smile as she looked back down at her shoes to hide the redness in her face.

Derek nodded, "That is true." He said and then he smiled at her following words, "Good 'cause I don't want you to leave just yet." He replied and smiled down at her, "I don't want to lose my best friend again." He stated with a small frown. He remembered how close they were as kids, she was practically part of the family. He knew that he was wrong to shut her out for six years, but he wanted to make up for it now.
