"I'm sure you'll find him." Callie said quietly. She knew that was what John had spent a very long time doing. After losing Mary, he had gotten into the life, and dragged Sam and Dean on into it with him. That was how it happened a lot though. Lose a loved one to a supernatural creature, avenge their death by killing all the other evil sons of bitches. It was kind of just how it worked unless you were already born into it.
"Find anything yet?" Dean asked, punctuating his words with a raised eyebrow. Whether she won the bet or not, he saw it as a win for himself. Maybe he'd lose out on ten bucks and a bottle of whiskey but he'd be sharing it with a girl who he couldn't deny was attractive. The way he saw it, either way it was definitely a win for him.

Sam nodded, knowing Dean and him probably wouldn't end up finding him together in the next year but he would find him. "What's Meody's story," he asked. "You two seem pretty close." He knew it was kind of sill and childish but he almost wished he has snuck back to Callie after his father had made them leave so he could have spent more of his time with her.
"The search engine takes time," Melody stated. "It'll ping when it finishes." She sat back in her chair, propping her feet up as she looked at Dean. "So Pretty Boy how'd you find out about the ghost here?" She assumed it was probably their own research or maybe Bobby because that's how she and Callie occasionally found hunting jobs when they couldn't seem to find any on their own.

"Dad and I came across her when we were working a case in Indianapolis." Callie told him. "Demon killed most of her family, and she'd witnessed the whole thing. Dad and I decided to take her under our wing." She left out the part where, after they'd begun training her, the first case the redhead worked also happened to be the one where Callie lost her father. "She and I have been hunting together ever since." She mustered up a small smile. "She's like the sister I never had."
Dean nodded. "Alright." He said, his gaze shifting away from the computer and over to her. He raised an eyebrow at the nickname, though he didn't say anything of it. "Came across and article on it in the paper. What about you and Callie?" He figured that they'd come across it in a similar fashion. He and Sam normally found cases that way or Bobby called them if he found one.

Sam noticed the look that showed in Callie's eyes when the blonde mentioned them training Melody. He could only assume something happened when they were training the redhead that could have caused or help cause Bill's death. He gave her hand a light squeeze and a sympathetic smile. "I'm glad you have someone who can kee you company."
"We were being lazy about looking for a new job so I called Bobby," Melody replied. "As soon as he told me possible ghost I knew I wanted to check it out," she replied. "Ghosts are always interesting because you have to research more than normal sometimes and I'm huge nerd so it all works in my favor."

Callie smiled slightly at his words. "Yeah, it's nice." She said, taking a sip of her coffee. She liked having Melody around. She knew how lonely it could get being on the road all the time without anyone else. "Enough about me though. How're things with you?" She was certain they'd have a great deal to talk about. After all, it had been over a decade since she'd last seen him. She still couldn't believe that it had been that long.
Dean nodded. "He always has cases." He said, chuckling slightly. Whenever he and Sam couldn't find anything, they went to Bobby. This time around though, they'd managed to come across this one on their own. How ironic it was that Bobby had found it as well. "You and Sam will get on well then. He's always the one doing all of the research." He told her, letting out another laugh.

"What do you want to know," Sam asked. "I mean there's not much that changed when I was still living with dad and Dean." He took a drink of his coffee, his fingers tracing invisible patterns into the cups as he looked down at it. "The week before I left for college my dad and I got in a big fight and I left. I hadn't even had contact with him or Dean until the day Jess died." He looked up at Callie, looking into her eyes and visibly swallowed. "Ever since then I've been hunting and its familiar but different, things are different between Dean and me now but the monsters are all the same.
Melody nodded. "If Callie gets along with someone it's rare that I don't," she stated. The redhead was very easy going and could get along with practically anyone and since Callie was a good judge of character she trusted whoever the blonde liked and was cautious of who she didn't. "So what about you Pretty Boy," she asked. "If Sam is the brains does that make you the brawn?"

Callie could tell that he didn't talk much about his ex-fiance. It was fairly apparent in how his demeanor changed slightly whenever he mentioned her. She might not have seen Sam in over a decade, but there were certain things about him that just clearly hadn't changed. She was glad that he hadn't changed completely. Of course, there were certain things about both of them that had clearly changed, but she was glad that there were some things about him that she still found familiar. "Her name was Jess? That's a nice name." She said quietly.
Dean nodded. "Easy going. That's always a good thing." He said. He didn't think there was much about his brother not to like though. Sam was a good guy. Not that he was saying that he wasn't, but people just seemed to like Sam more than they liked him sometimes. Certain people anyway. "Stereotyping, Red. That hurts." He said, feigning offense. "I read...just not as often as my brother does."

Sam found a ghost of smile form on his face as he nodded. "I think you two would have gotten along," he spoke. "Some of the things she did reminded me a lot of you." Sam hadn't really admitted it out loud before but he knew part of the reason he loved Jess was because she reminded him so much of Callie, the girl he knew he would always love and be special to him. She was his first love after all and your first love always stayed with you.
"The sent in letters in a Huster or Playboy don't count," she teased. She pulled out a bottle of whiskey she had bought earlier that week, smirking when the search engine beeped letting her know it was done searching. She set the unopened bottle of whiskey down, her smirk turning into a grin at what her program had picked up. "All of them are getting divorced on the grounds that they were having affairs."

Callie smiled slightly at his words. "Yeah? Well, I'm sure she was a great girl." She said. She wasn't about to be bitter over Sam moving on after so many years had gone by since she'd last seen him. She had moved on too, of course, she did still find herself thinking about him. He was her first love, how could she not think about him? And now she was seeing him again for the first time in over a decade, and she wasn't really sure what to do about it. Was this a second chance? Things hadn't ended how she would have hoped because of Sam's father, so were they getting another chance? She couldn't really tell.
Dean rolled his eyes in response to her words. "Haha, very funny." He said sarcastically. He knew that she was only teasing. He watched as she pulled a bottle of whiskey from her bag, raising an eyebrow. He followed her gaze over to the laptop when the search engine beeped and waited to see what the verdict would be. "I guess I'm going to have to pay up then." He said, chuckling slightly.

Sam nodded. "Yeah she was," he mumbled. "Not as great as you though." He felt kind of foolish for saying something like that. He had never really wanted to blurt out what he had especially since it usually hurt to even talk about Jess. Now Sam was openly comparing Jess and Callie out loud.
"I guess you are," Melody smirked. "How about this," she spoke. "We drink my bottle of whiskey together and you just buy me a burger and fries later." She definitely hadn't had a good burger in a while. "I'm sure you'd know some good burger joints with all the traveling you do."

His words surprised her. Callie really didn't know how to respond at first. She'd just found out that his ex-fiance had been killed by a demon, and now he was comparing the two of them, and telling her that she was better. "Sam..." She started quietly. She honestly didn't know what to say. She knew that she had never forgotten about him, that she had always wondered what would have happened if his father hadn't caused him to end things with her when he had, but hearing him say this just was something she didn't know how to respond to.
"I think that sounds fair." Dean said, punctuating his words with a slight nod. He never turned down the opportunity to go out for a burger, and he certainly wasn't going to start now. Plus, he'd be lying if he didn't think that the redhead was attractive. She certainly was, and he definitely wouldn't mind taking her out for a burger and some fries later on. "You make it sound like you don't do a lot of traveling yourself..."

Sam realized how bad what he said could have seemed and how awkward it made the situation of Sam and Callie being alone together at the coffee shop. "I'm sorry," he mumbled. "I'm still bad at thinking before I speak I guess." It was a way worse habit when he was younger though. Sam had learned how to sensor what he said out loud especially when it used to cause fights with his dad when he was younger.
"I'm more antisocial than you would think," Melody stated. "Callie is really the one person I've met beside her dad that gets me and that I really get along with." For Melody there was always one thing or another that she found issues or faults with in other people but with her best friend there were none. "So what about you," she asked. "Are you the social butterfly of the group?"

Callie shook her head. "It's fine." She said quietly. "You don't need to apologize." The situation was a bit awkward now, but she wasn't going to make it any worse than it was already. Maybe if they could just get off the subject, the tension would dissipate. She hoped that would be the case as she spoke again. "So, what else is going on in the world of Sam Winchester?" She asked curiously, sending a small smile his way as she sipped her coffee.
"But you must do a decent amount of traveling with Callie right?" Dean asked curiously. "When you two work cases, anyway." He was kind of surprised by what she'd just told him, though it was probably because it was clear she was extremely comfortable around Callie. He supposed that he shouldn't have made any assumptions about her though, not when he'd only just met her. "If you want to put it that way." He said, punctuating his words with a quiet laugh. "I'm more likely to go out than Sam is. He'd rather stay back and read his books."

"We finally got yellow eyes," Sam stated. Even when he and his family had been Callie and her dad that was all his dad seemed to talk about. It had been his father's one real obsession, getting revenge on the demon who and killed his wife and his son's mother. Sam still believed it was the one thing that started the issues with his father. "Dean and I killed him but dad didn't make it through long enough to get the revenge he always wanted." Sam took a long drink of his coffee playing with the rim of his coffee lid after he did.
"Sounds to me like I'm the red headed girl version of your brother," Melody joked. She had really never been a people person and the few people she did like we're the ones she had traveled with, Callie and her dad. "So why did you stuck to hunting," she asked. "From what little Callie used to mention about your brother he wanted more out of life." Of course Callie had never mentioned names but now that she had met Sam and Dean it wasn't hard to put two and two together.

"That's great, Sam." Callie said. She remembered how often his dad used to talk about wanting to gank the son of a bitch who had taken his wife from him and the mother of his sons from them. It was clear that it was borderline, if not already, obsession. She knew that Sam hadn't been so hellbent to do any of it though. He'd always talked to her about wanting to go to college and then law school, and she'd always supported him and told him that he should go for it. Maybe that was why his father had never seemed all that fond of her. She was supporting these dreams of his youngest son's that he didn't think were realistic in the slightest. "He'd be proud of you and Dean for doing it."
Dean let out a soft chuckle in response to her words. "I guess it does." He said, an amused expression written across his face. Her later words caught him off guard. He hadn't expected her to ask him, though he supposed Callie had mentioned him and Sam here and there. He wasn't surprised that she'd brought up Sam before, the blonde had been crazy about his brother when they were younger, though he was a bit surprised that he'd been mentioned as well. Of course, Callie had been like the little sister he never had to him, but they were never as close as she and Sam were. "Yeah, he did. Still does, I think." He told her. "I just could never see myself doing anything other than this. School was never for me, I never finished high school, and forget about college. The way I see it, it's hunting or nothing for me."

"I'm sure he is," Sam mumbled. A part of him was still mad he was back in the hunting life. He still felt like if yellow eyes hadn't gone after Jess and killed her he would be finishing up his law degree and would be taking his test to pass the bar by now. "I just wish things had been different," he admitted. "Before I got sucked back into all of this I had the normal life I had wanted. Now it's Dean and me hunting and continuing what dad started."
"You in a normal job with a monkey suit would be quite entertaining to see," Melody chuckled. She took a sip from her drink, leaning back in her seat a little after she set her glass back down. "So what made your family start hunting?" For Melody it was because she had wanted revenge on the vampires who had killed her family. They had drained all of them except her, deciding to just torture her and then leave her for dead. Sometimes it still baffled her why they hadn't fed off of her at all.

Callie frowned slightly at his words. "You don't have to stick to it, you know." She said quietly. She knew that all Sam had ever wanted was a normal life. It kind of sucked that he'd ended up getting sucked right back into hunting just when he'd gotten what he'd always wanted, but the way she saw it, he'd gotten out once, he could always do it again. "I know that's probably easier said than done, but you've always wanted that normal, apple pie life."
Dean chuckled softly in response to her words and shook his head slightly. "I think it'd blow my brains out if I had to sit behind a desk from 9-5 every single day." He told her. He just could never see himself living a normal life. Sam always spoke about wanting one, but Dean? No. Never. "Dad got into it when Sam was a baby. Our mom was killed by a demon, and he was hellbent on finding the son of a bitch til the day he died. Sam and I ganked him not that long ago actually."

"I've thought about leaving again," Sam admitted. "I can't do that to Dean. He wouldn't let me live it down." When his brother had died when he had come back he had ragged in him when he had found him. It also could have been he was pissed because he was playing a messed up version of house with Ruby too though. Dean had never liked her.
"That's one thing I've never encountered yet," Melody stated. "Hear going against a demon is a pain in the ass." Everything she had read up on them was all based on old superstitions and Christian books on exorcism so she wasn't exactly sure what was true and what had been exaggerated. "What's it like fighting a demon?"

"If you've thought about leaving, you clearly aren't happy, Sam." Callie told him, frowning slightly. Maybe she had no room to give him advice right now seeing how long it had been since they'd last spoke, but she liked to think that she still knew him pretty well. He'd never wanted this life, he'd never wanted to be a hunter, and yet he was one. She could tell that he wasn't happy, but she could understand not wanting to leave his brother. There were the only person the other really had.
"That's one way of putting it." Dean said, sipping his drink. There had been a time when he too hadn't faced a demon before, and he'd felt kind of in over his head at that point too, but now he felt like he dealt with them pretty frequently. "It's honestly like dealing with any other evil son of a bitch that's out there. If you've done your research and know what you're up against, it's a lot easier than if you just go in guns-a-blazing.' He told her honestly.

"I wish it was that easy," Sam mumbled. For Sam he knew it could be that was but at the same time he knew life for him never was. Even when he had the normal life he wanted he had picked a hard career to pursue. "I'm sure even if I managed to leave Dean would find a way to drag me back in again." Deep down Sam felt that part of Jess' death was Dean's fault, that maybe if he hadn't shown up yellow eyes wouldn't have killed Jess. "He was always dad's good little solider."
"I've read everything I can get my hands on about them," Melody stated. "I just wonder if some of it is exaggerated like it is with vampires." The redhead has also read up on all types of lore on vampires and she was definitely happy they weren't floating heads with intestines dangling from the stump. She took another drink of her small glass of whiskey, moving her feet so they were tucked under her. "Does the exorcism prayer in Latin actually work on them?"
