You Are My One, My Only

Zack smiled and placed his arm around Spencer as she sat down next to him on the couch. He noticed Matt whispering over to Faye, and he turned to Spencer. "This must be something good, because Matt is being all secretive over there with Faye." He gave her a small smile and placed a kiss on her forehead.

"That's all up to you baby... I think we are both too excited for our own good and everyone else can see that as well." She whispered back. "But I most definitely want you to break the news."

"Ooh, a secret," Spencer said. She looked at Matt and Faye, wondering what they were whispering about. "This party is getting interesting," she added, laughing quietly. She was curious, though. She was sure that whatever Matt and Faye were whispering about was why they'd thrown the party and Spencer wanted to know what the secret was. She couldn't help it, she was nosy.

"Well, we might as well get it out there, then," Matt said, cracking a grin. He took Faye's hand and led her to the center of the room, in front of all their friends. "So we were gonna wait a little while to tell you guys the good news, but we're both too excited to wait, so we're gonna tell you now." Matt looked over at Faye and smiled, giving her hand a squeeze before continuing. "We're gonna have a baby."

Zacky's face fell almost immediately as the words came out of Matt's mouth. His hand had been placed on Spencer's thigh, and unbeknownst to him his grip had tightened ever so slightly as he looked over at Spencer. He tried to search with in himself to smile and congratulate his friend, but as he saw Spencer's face he couldn't bring himself to do it. He pressed a kiss to her temple, speaking softly into her ear, "Are you okay?"

Faye beamed as Jimmy came over and wrapped his lanky arms around her in congratulations, giving her a hug and then moving on to hug Matt just the same. She looked around the room, seeing smiles on nearly everyone's faces, except Zacky and Spencer's. Her smile faltered for a moment, wondering if she had done something to previously upset the couple, but shook the feeling away. "Thank you guys, really, it's awesome you all are happy."

"Hell yeah, we are happy!" Brian said loudly with a grin as he looked at Matt.

"Yeah, I'm fine," Spencer whispered, but her words came out slightly strangled. She felt like she'd been punched in the gut. Faye was pregnant? It wasn't fair, it wasn't. She and Zacky had been trying for so long and gotten nothing and now Matt and Faye were going to have a baby without having to try. It wasn't fair. Despite all of this, Spencer forced a smile onto her face and went over to hug Faye. "Congratulations," she forced out.

"Thanks man, it means a lot," Matt said, grinning. He looked around at his friends, suddenly feeling grateful that they had such a huge support network. This baby was going to be blessed with a lot of great aunts and uncles. However, he couldn't help but notice that Zacky and Spencer's smiles seemed a bit forced. He didn't know what was wrong with the two of them, but he would worry about it later.

Zack went over to Matt, giving him a brief hug and clapped his friend on the shoulder as he pulled back. He hoped to God that their reactions were as obvious as he had feared that they were seeming to be. "Congratulations, man. Baby Shadows already on the way. Let us know if you need anything." Zacky put on his best show smile for his friend, something that he had practiced a dozen of times.

Faye wrapped her arms around Spencer, feeling as though she was comforting Spencer with her hug more than receiving a congratulation. "Thanks Spence, that means a lot. You've been there since the beginning with me and Matt and I am glad you are here to go through this with us as well."

"I bet you guys are excited," Spencer said, moving away from Faye. She looked over at Matt and saw the huge smile on his face. He seemed the most excited. And why wouldn't he be? He was going to be a father. "I also bet it was a surprise to the both of you. No offense, but I'm sure the two of you weren't planning this, were you?"

"Thanks man, I will," Matt said. He looked at Zacky, still noticing that his smile seemed force. "But uh, are you alright? You and Spencer seem a bit off. We didn't do anything to make you guys upset, did we?" Matt failed to think of anything he and Faye could've done, but he could never be sure. And if they had done something, he wanted to know so he could fix it.

Zacky gave his friend a halfhearted smile. He couldn't really come out and express the onset jealousy and irritation anger that his friend was able to become pregnant so quickly. He and Spencer had been trying for damn near a year and nothing. Faye and Matt move in together and no less than two months the young blonde was pregnant. Zacky snapped himself out of his thoughts and shook his head at Matt, "Nah man, just dealing with a couple personal issues right not, it's nothing that you guys have done..."

Faye was a little taken back by Spencer's question. Truth be told, they weren't necesarilly trying get pregnant, but they weren't really preventing it either. She was highly curious why Spencer was asking, but by the solemn look on her and Zacky's faces, Faye decided it would be best not to press the issue. "I mean, not exactly trying, but not really preventing it either I guess."

"Well it's still good news either way," Spencer said, trying to keep her smile up. She leaned forward to give her friend another hug. "Anyway, congratulations again," she said. "I'm gonna go see if I can find Zack." She spotted Zacky standing near the kitchen, talking to Matt, and he looked as pained as she had talking to Faye. Spencer went up to Zacky and placed her hand on his arm. "Excuse me, I need to borrow my boyfriend for a minute."

"Well man you know you can always come to one of us if you need anything," Matt said. He hated to think that Zacky - and probably Spencer as well - were going through something difficult. When Spencer walked up and pulled Zacky away, Matt went over to Faye. "Does something seem weird about Zacky or Spencer to you?" he whispered to her.

Zacky sighed as he lead Spencer away from everyone. He certainly didn't want to be the Debby Downer of the group, but it was too painstakingly hard to keep up a happy facade. After he got Spencer outside, he engulfed her in a hug, wrapping his arms around her. He said into her hair, "I say we stick around for about another twenty minutes and leave, I don't think I can be around all this and I know you don't want to be either."

Faye wrapped her arms around Matt's torso and nodded her head as she looked up at him. She tried to continue to rack her brain of what they possibly could have done, but nothing was coming to her forefront. She shrugged her shoulders as she spoke back in a hushed voice, "Spencer hardly seemed as if she wanted to talk to me... I don't know what I did wrong."

Spencer sighed. "No, I don't," she whispered. "But I don't want to be rude. Even if it's hard, we need to be happy for Matt and Faye. I'm sure they'd do the same for us." She stood on her tiptoes and gave Zacky a kiss. "Come on, let's go back inside. If it's too hard for you to talk to Matt or Faye, you can always talk to someone else. And if you want to drink, I can drive home."

"They're upset about something," Matt said. "I don't necessarily think it was something we did, but I think it has something to do with you being pregnant, because I didn't notice anything weird until we announced it." Matt pressed a kiss to the top of Faye's head. "But you know what? Let's not worry about that right now, okay?"

Zacky nodded his head and leaned in to press a kiss against her forehead. "I suppose you're right," he grinned at her, "But then again you always are, so whats new? Let's go back in before they think we are up to something." He took her hand and led her back into the house, settling down on the couch next to Jimmy and Leana.

Faye shrugged, "I don't know, she did ask if we were planning on getting pregnant but--" She stopped talking as Matt began to shake his head. She looked over his shoulder to see Zacky and Spencer coming back in. Faye put a smile back on her face, "Everybody good on food? Anyone need anything?"

Spencer took a seat between Jimmy and Zacky. She looked up when Faye came over, asking if anybody needed anything. She shook her head. "No, I'm good, thanks," she said. She didn't think she could eat anything anyway, not with how nauseated she felt. She felt bad that she and Zacky were being rude to Matt and Faye, even if they didn't mean to.

Matt saw Zacky and Spencer come back inside and take a seat next to Jimmy and Leana. Faye was off playing hostess, the way she always did when they threw parties at their house. But Matt worried about her being on her feet all the time now that she was pregnant. "Faye, why don't you sit down for a few minutes?" he fretted. "Let me mess with the food and stuff."

Zacky wrapped his arm around Spencer's shoulder, lightly brushing the exposed skin of her arm with his finger tips. Brian looked over in their direction, his eyebrows furrowing in concern. "You guys okay? Seem kinda down today."

Zacky shook his head at his friend, smiling lightly, "Just had a long night last night, I think we are both ready to get some rest when we head home."

Faye rolled her eyes at Matt. She knew he meant the best by it, but in turn, she also knew that he was aware that she had to keep active so she didn't go crazy. "Matt, I'm only five weeks pregnant, not five months. I think I'll be okay babe." She said with a smile.

"Yeah we're fine, don't worry about us," Spencer said to Brian, smiling at him. She was sure the guys knew that she and Zacky were trying to get pregnant, but she didn't think they knew how much not being able to was affecting them. And now that Faye was pregnant, she didn't think they would ever know. "I'm gonna run to the bathroom," Spencer said softly to Zacky.

"I know, but I'm still gonna worry about you," Matt said. He wrapped an arm around Faye's waist, laying a hand over her stomach. "You're carrying my baby, I gotta make sure you're okay all the time." He pressed a kiss into her hair before moving away from her, heading into the kitchen to get another beer.

Zacky nodded and pecked Spencer on the cheek before she got up and went off to the rest room. He looked over at Brian who was still eyeing him suspiciously. Had him and Spencer been to obvious of their disdain? He didn't want to put a damper on Matt's announcement, but the wounds of Spencer still being unable to conceive were to fresh. "What?" He asked Brian when he still hadn't taken his eyes away from him.

"Something's got to give, man," He started as he sipped his beer. "You two look miserable and like you don't even want to be here. I don't wanna pry, but if you guys have business that needs to be handled maybe y'all should go handle it."

Faye smiled as she watched him walk away. She decided to go use the restroom but when she arrived at the bathroom in the hall, the door was locked and water in the sink was running. Even though the sink was running, she could still here Spencer either getting sick or upset. She gently knocked on the bathroom door, "Hey, Spence, are you okay?

Spencer jumped when she heard a knock at the door. She reached over and splashed a little more water on her face to hide the fact that she'd been crying before shutting off the water. "Yeah, I'm fine," she called back to Faye. "I'll be out in a minute." She leaned against the counter and sighed. She felt so stupid that she couldn't be happy for her friends, but it was just so hard when she was so jealous. It made her feel like a shitty person, but she just couldn't help it.

With his beer in hand, Matt went back into the living room. Noticing that Faye had disappeared, he went over and sat down with Brian and Zacky. "What's going on guys?" he asked. He looked between his two friends and noticed that things seemed a little tense. "Something wrong?" He looked at Zacky, who seemed like he was pretty miserable. "Man, if you and Spencer don't wanna be here, you don't have to stay. We're not forcing you."

Faye sighed and called out gently, "Hey open the door." When Spencer opened the door, it was all too obvious that she was trying to hid her red and puffy tear stained eyes. Faye immediately frowned and brought her friend into a warm hug, "Spence, whats wrong? Did we do something?" She sat them down on the side of the tub and looked at Spencer awaiting her answer.

Zacky sighed and shook his head. He couldn't help but feel like he had been ganged up on. He didn't know if it was crossing a line if he were to open his mouth about everything that was going on. But, on the other hand, he didn't want his friends thinking he was upset with them. He began to speak in a low, sullen voice. "It's not that, Matt..." he started as he wiped a hand over his face. He sighed, "It's just--don't say anything but--Spencer and I... We've been trying to get pregnant for months... Somethings wrong and we just don't know what."

Spencer shook her head. "No, it's nothing you guys did, I promise." She sighed. She knew she didn't really have a choice but to tell Faye what was going on, as much as she didn't want to. "It's just um, me and Zack have been trying to have a baby. For about a year now. And we haven't been able to. The doctor doesn't know why, but she said it's probably something wrong with me. So it just kinda sucks knowing that you and Matt got pregnant on accident and me and Zacky can't even do it on purpose."

"Man, why didn't you say anything?" Matt asked. He felt a little hurt that Zacky and Spencer had hidden this from them for so long. But he also kinda felt like an asshole now, because if he had known they were dealing with all that, he and Faye wouldn't have made their announcement so publicly. His friends' demeanors made a lot more sense now; they weren't upset, they were just hurt. "We would've uh, gone about this a little differently if we'd known."

Faye's heart immediately sunk when she heard Spencer's confession. She felt an enormous amount of guilt now. "Spencer, I'm sorry." she said quietly. She knew that there really wasn't much consoling she could do in order to make her feel better. "If we would have known, I mean, we wouldn't have done this the way we did..." She sighed slightly. "But, if there is anything I can do to help. Go to doctors with you when Zacky's busy, help you look in to in vitro, anything... Just let me know."

Zacky shook his head, "You guys shouldn't have to change the way you do things because of us. That's unfair to you guys. It was just a shitty case of timing is all." He smiled a little a his friends. "It wasn't something that we were comfortable talking about just yet."

Brian reached over and gripped Zacky's shoulder, "If there is anything we can do man, let us know, okay?"

Spencer smiled weakly. "Thanks, Faye," she said. She reached up to run a hand back through her hair. "I actually have a doctor's appointment tomorrow, with a fertility specialist. But Zack's gonna go with me, because we're actually gonna start looking into IVF." It wasn't something Spencer was especially looking forward to, because it just cemented the fact that something was wrong with her. But if it would get her pregnant, she didn't really care.

"Yeah man, let us know if you guys need anything," Matt said, repeating Brian's statement. It was hard to think of things to say to Zacky to console him; this was obviously a tender subject for him and Matt never really was good at comforting people. "Have you guys looked into anything else?" he asked a few minutes later.
