I'll Be Seeing You

"Whatever you say, Buck." Lucy teased, a slight grin tugging at the corners of her lips. "I like the sound of that." She told him as she got to her feet. She knew which spot he was talking about. Sometimes, it was just nice to get as much peace and quiet as one could get in a city like New York. That's why she liked the section of the park they'd come across that one time. Things could just be so loud and chaotic in the city, it wasn't very often that a quiet place was found within it.

Bucky smiled when she teased him before he shook his head lightly. He stood with her before he offered his arm to her, "Well let's get going then, don't want them to close before we get there." He joked. Bucky knew the place wasn't very far, so he knew that it wouldn't close before they got there. He was really excited to get to spend some alone time with Lucy since that rarely happened because of Steve, not that he didn't like the three of them hanging out, but he just liked spending alone time with Lucy every now and then.

"That would be a tragedy." Lucy said, letting out a quiet laugh as took ahold of his arm. The events from earlier that evening were still sort of sinking in. They almost didn't feel real. Maybe it was because, other than the obvious differences, she and Bucky were acting like they'd always acted. There was no awkward transition into any of this. They didn't have to take the time to get to know each other. They'd known each other for years. "I'm kind of really curious to see how your mom reacts to all of this...Becky too." Lucy had been an honorary Barnes sibling since the very first time Bucky had invited her over. She was close with his mother and all of his siblings, particularly his youngest sister Rebecca, or Becky as everyone liked to call her.

Bucky chuckled lightly before she spoke about his mom and sister, “Oh they’re going to throw a party. You never get to hear about how my mom talks about once you’ve left. “Oh, Bucky, Lucy’s really the greatest. I don’t understand why you haven’t taken her out on a date yet.” “You know, dear, I was actually really disappointed when you didn’t open the conversation for the night saying how you and Lucy were finally together.” Honestly, doll, you’re all she ever talks about. She’s going to be thrilled.” He explained to her with a laugh, “And you know how Becky looks up to you, she’s going to be so excited.”

"Well, I am pretty amazing." Lucy joked, a slight grin tugging at the corners of her lips. She knew that Mrs. Barnes at least liked her, but it was sort of nice knowing that she'd been rooting for her and Bucky to get together for a while now. Being the youngest with three older brothers, Becky had quickly become the little sister Lucy never had. After Bucky, she was probably the Barnes sibling Lucy was closest to. "My mom's going to ecstatic. She always liked you for some reason. I don't know why though." She teased lightly.

Bucky couldn't stop his laugh at her words, "Yeah that's what it is." He said sarcastically, "I think it's because you're the only girl I could end up going on more than one date with, and ma really likes that. She likes that you're the only girl that could settle me down, I guess." He explained as they walked down the street. When she spoke about her mom and her reaction, he rolled his eyes, "It's because from the first moment I met your mom, I instantly charmed her. Kind of like I did you." Bucky stated and wrapped his arms around her tightly and kissed her cheek as they walked.

Lucy gave him a light shove when he laughed in response to his words. "You know it's true, don't even try to deny it." She said, giving a slight laugh of her own. She listened as he told her why he thought his mom was so adamant about him taking her out and potentially going steady with her. You're the only girl that could settle me down, I guess. His words really resonated with her. She supposed it made sense. There weren't very many girls that Bucky would go out on more than one date with, and that was partially why she was so hesitant to tell him about how she felt.

It might have been a bit silly for her to think that he'd treat her the same way, but that was definitely something she'd worried about because it also meant that things would likely be awkward and weird afterwards if it did happen. "You, charming?" She scoffed playfully, though she couldn't help the smile that tugged at the corners of her lips when he wrapped his arms around her and pressed a kiss to her cheek as they walked. "You're anything but charming, Barnes."

Bucky rolled his eyes lightly but laughed when she lightly shoved him, "Whatever you say, doll." He stated as they walked and neared the store. When she said that he was anything but charming he threw a hand over his heart, "Now, Lucy, you know that just isn't true. I'm the most charming charmer that you know. That's a fact." Bucky explained with a smile. When they walked into the store, he smiled at the old woman behind the counter before he turned to Lucy, "Get whatever you want, doll, I'm buying." He told her with a grin before he grabbed himself a drink and followed her around the store.

"I wouldn't be so sure of yourself, Barnes." Lucy teased as they walked into the store. She smiled politely to the old woman standing behind the counter before turning her attention back to Bucky. "And who says I want you to buy me anything?" She countered, punctuating her words with a raised eyebrow. She thought it was sweet and the gentlemanly thing to do, she was just being a difficult pain in the ass on purpose. She was pretty sure that Bucky would know that too.

Bucky raised an eyebrow back at her and placed a hand on his hip, trying to be as sassy as her, "Nobody, doll, I thought I would just be the good boyfriend and buy things for my girl, but if you would like to buy everything yourself, go right ahead. I won't stop you." He teased and stuck his tongue out at her. He really liked that besides the obvious, nothing had changed between he and Lucy.

"Who said you were my boyfriend, hm?" Lucy questioned, punctuating her words with a raised eyebrow. She was only teasing him, though her words did hold some truth behind them. They hadn't exactly established what any of the events from the night meant. She knew he was going to take her out this week, but did that mean they were going steady or what? "You're going to have to take me out on a date before you can call yourself that." She smirked slightly as she grabbed a drink for herself.

Bucky rolled his eyes lightly at her words, "Doll, you know you're my girl, and I don't see anyone else lining up for a date with you, and you know I'm going to be taking you on more than one date, but I understand and will take you on one date first before I start calling myself your boyfriend." He stated before he grabbed his own drink, "Though in the future you might want to think about not kissing someone before they're your boyfriend." Bucky said with a small laugh.

"I think you're just worried your ma will have your head if she finds out we kissed before you took me out on a proper date." Lucy teased, elbowing him lightly in the side as she walked past him and over to the counter. She liked that things hadn't seemed to have changed between her and Bucky. It was nice knowing that they could still act like they once had even if their relationship had surpassed the friend stage. She grabbed a candy bar on the way to the counter and set it down, sending a smile the old woman's way as she waited for Bucky to walk over.

Bucky laughed at her words but nodded, "She'd kill me if she found out. Oh, God, I can hear her now. "James Buchannan Barnes! You did what? That is not the way I taught you how to treat a lady! First, you ignore all signs that she had feelings for you, then you don't even take her out on a date before you're kissin' her!" That would be a nightmare! Luce, whenever we tell her about us, we are leaving that part out. I do not need a lecture from her on my stupidity. You know very well how long those lectures take." He said to her as he set his drink on the counter, pulling out his wallet quickly and paying for Lucy's soda and candy bar as well, "Hell, I'm probably going to get the lecture from Steve anyway, so I would rather get it from him than my ma. There would be a lot less yelling." He explained with a laugh.

"Well, I can't have her killin' you before you actually take me out." Lucy laughed. She knew that Mrs. Barnes wouldn't be pleased at all if she found out how things had actually panned out with her and Bucky. "if she ever does find out, I'm the one who kissed you, so maybe she'll let you off easy if she finds that out...but then you're the one who kissed me after that so maybe she won't." She laughed once more, shaking her head. "Oh yeah, Stevie's definitely gonna lecture ya when we see him tomorrow. He's still gonna tell ya that you're stupid though. He's a lot less scary than your ma would probably be though."

Bucky laughed at her words and nodded in agreement before the woman behind the counter handed him his change. He thanked quickly before he grabbed his drink and put his arm around her as they walked out of the store, "I'm sure the lecture from Steve is going to involve a lot of calling me stupid." He agreed with a laugh, "But then again, what else is new in that department. Most of his lectures always involve calling me stupid." Bucky admitted. It was true, though. He usually did stupid things that ended up getting him lectures from Steve to which Steve would point out how stupid Bucky's actions were.

"Stevie does some pretty stupid things sometimes too though." Lucy pointed out. Steve just made a habit out of finding trouble, he was always the one to pick fights, and Bucky was always the one who had to help him out whenever he was in over his head. And Lucy was usually the one who patched the two of them up afterwards. If she didn't scold them both, Sarah or Winnifred did. "He means well, and I know that, but sometimes I worry about him, you know?" She and Bucky were always there to make sure Steve didn't get into too much trouble, but that didn't mean that Lucy didn't worry about him quite frequently.

Bucky nodded as he took a drink from his bottle. He always looked after Steve, and he probably always would, "It's not sometimes, Luce. It's always." He replied, trying to joke. When she spoke again, he nodded and frowned, "I know you do. I do too." He replied. Bucky knew that it was true. He always worried about Steve and the fights that he started with people, "I know that he knows his own size, but I think sometimes he forgets." He stated with a frown.

Lucy mustered a small smile at Bucky's words. It wasn't exactly an exaggeration. Steve did quite a few things that made her question his sanity at the very least. She knew that he meant well most of the time, she just wished that he'd quit picking so many fights with people who were a lot bigger than him. She'd lost count of the number of times that Bucky had brought their friend back to her apartment so she could patch Steve up after another one of his alleyway squirmishs. "I think he does too, and I know that he means well when he does pick those fights, I just wish he'd stop picking so many of them, ya know? I worry that he's gonna get himself seriously hurt one of these days." She sighed.

Bucky smiled and nodded, "You're definitely speaking the truth. One of these days I'm not going to be there to help in time, or they're going to have more than one friend and that friend is going to be bigger than I am. I know Sarah would like to put him in a bubble sometimes and never let him out of the house. I love the kid, I really do, but there's got to be an end to it." He said as he looked at the ground. Bucky really did worry about Steve a lot and knew that Lucy worried about the both of them when it came to the bigger fights that Steve had managed to get himself into, and Bucky hated worrying Lucy.
