(Sorry for the bland start, I just wanted to get him going towards Leilah so our plan can start relatively soon)

Rennyn stared at the off white color of the ceiling. To be honest, he'd lost track of how many days--weeks?--it had been since he first came to earth, and since he had first encountered the angel. He knew she was nearby, he could feel it, and he knew she probably chose to remain nearby, just as he had. It was important to keep tabs on the enemy, but that didn't mean he needed to address the issue now, and so he'd chosen to avoid it.

In the meantime, he had thought about how to live. He tried a part time job at a coffee shop--it hadn't been that difficult, and his presence actually increased patronage at the store while he was there. This did not last very long, however, as Rennyn realized that people really suck. And so, instead of continuing his work there (though he kept some of the connections he'd made among regulars and coworkers), he went with his original idea. If you can't earn it, steal it. Between petty theft and expert cons, he'd managed enough per month to get a small place for himself. It wasn't great, but it had a roof and working amenities. He also had a mattress in his bedroom and a dingy couch in the living room area. That was all he really needed, and he had no intentions of making it any more comfortable or home-like. This place wasn't home, he spent little to no time there aside from sleep, and he didn't plan to make it home in the future.

Today would be no different than usual, he figured. He got up, took a shower, forced a small meal down his throat (though he was still a bit upset that it was even necessary), and walked out the door, not bothering to lock it behind him--if someone wanted in for his mattress, they could have it.

When he was out on the street, he could still sense Leilah's presence and general direction, but he wasn't sure he wanted to interact with her today (he didn't most days), but he also didn't feel like going out of his way to avoid her. So he didn't, and he went in that direction anyways. He felt something strange about today, something different in the air, but for some odd reason he couldn't quite identify what it was. This was unnerving to him, so maybe it wasn't a bad idea to see what she was up to. With no new leads on why he was there, and unable to collect any souls (until he could find one that fit a loophole) he had nothing else to do on that day.

(No, you're good! Honestly, mine's pretty bad so xD)

Leilah was always angry. Or frustrated, at least.

Since that first day, there had been no word from her mentor (or any angel, for that matter), and she was no closer to figuring out what it was she was supposed to be doing. Instead of putting her skills to use and being the warrior she was supposed to be, she was forced to live like a human until she could figure out and accomplish whatever it was that Khalanthris wanted from her. So she lived in a Spartan one bedroom apartment, worked as a failing waitress in some restaurant, and the one time she'd tried to find an acceptable way to let out her frustrations, she'd been kicked out of the gym.

Leilah had chosen to stay in an area close enough to the demon that she could keep tabs on him, though it wasn't close enough that she had to deal with his repulsive aura everyday or even be forced to interact with him. She couldn't attack him anymore than he could hunt souls, but keeping him in her sights felt close to actually doing something. As close as she could get, anyway.

Then, as she was on the streets one day, out for her morning run, she'd felt it. A demonic aura. Rennyn's had become familiar to her, enough so that she could forget it even existed if he were far enough away, so she knew this wasn't it. It was even worse. That was days ago, and since then, Leilah had made it a point to go by the area everyday, to make sure it didn't move, to try and maybe figure out where, exactly, it was at. The problem was that she didn't know if the demon knew about her existence yet. She thought that maybe she'd managed to stay far enough away to slip below its radar, but that might not be the case.

Then there was the fact that two demons were so close to one another in the same area. Leilah's only assumption could be that Rennyn now had an ally and was in the middle of planning something. Only she wasn't going to wait to figure out what it was. That was why, when she felt his aura strengthening and coming nearer, Leilah left her apartment, went downstairs, and waited around the corner of the building. One thing she'd at least figured out was that humans liked to intervene in things that weren't their business.

When the demon walked by, Leilah grabbed him by and pulled him into the alley, where there was less of a chance of someone butting in. "I may have been ordered not to attack anyone unless first attacked, but if you think that means you can get away with whatever you want, you've got another thing coming. I know about your friend, and I'm watching the both of you."

(Ready for Rennyn and another demon's pissing match ahahah.)

Rennyn didn't really expect that the angel would seek him out. Of all the times they had passed one another, they usually remained on opposite sides of the street and pointedly ignored one another (if not just keeping one eye on the other, you could never be too trusting). However, today seemed to be different, just as he had predicted. He had not predicted, however, that another strange feeling would come to him, just as he entered into what had become Leilah's "territory" of sorts, in this neighborhood. It was another aura, one he had not been able to sense from his dwelling, and it was very distinctly demonic. He did not get any time to consider this situation before he was being pulled away into an alley.

She threatened, as was normal for her, but in response Rennyn could only blink as his brain caught up with the situation. He understood how Leilah came to her conclusion, didn't blame her for it, but verbally tsk'd her for the assumptions.

"One thing you should learn about demons is that we do not like each other. Particularly me. I do not like other demons, they do not like me," he informed her calmly, not bothering to respond to her aggressiveness with his own. It was not his style, after all. "Second thing, I only just felt this demons aura just now. I'm not sure why he is here, but I do not like it just as much as you. Demons are territorial, after all." And while he considered this area to be "Leilah's" area, he also considered Leilah to be a part of his territory. His mark. No other demon was allowed to have what he so clearly put his own aura all over.

"I've no idea why this demon is here, but it is either a challenge or an insult, and both sort of piss me off," he continued, just short of baring his teeth. He wasn't so bestial. "So please, tell me what you intend to do about it, aside from watching."

(Most definitely! Though Rennyn and Leilah on their own is pretty entertaining by itself xD After that post, I'm imagining Rennyn as a dog that's peed on things to mark his territory, including Leilah)

Though the demon appeared confused for several beats following her threat, Leilah didn't back down from her stance, even once he began talking. She despised how calm he always was, and she didn't trust it. If he was planning on doing something, as she suspected, it wouldn't be good for him to get caught. It made sense that he'd attempt to lie to her.

Frankly, the only reason she didn't have him pinned against the wall rather than standing freely in front of her was because she suspected that would be classified as an attack.

As she crossed her arms over her chest, Leilah's disbelief regarding the truth of Rennyn's words was readily apparent, her anger just beneath the surface. "Yes, it's so obvious that you're just seething with irritation over the appearance of this second demon," she countered, the sarcasm thick, and added, "Fine, pretend all you want." She wasn't as armed as she'd like, but it wasn't as if they would catch her without a weapon of some sort. One more suited to combat than an umbrella.

With one last warning glare, Leilah and turned and started out of the alley, disgusted with the turn of the conversation. That had been a complete waste of time. After their little confrontation in the park, he'd obviously decided he needed help. As fast as he'd been in dodging her attacks, the only attempt at offense he'd made was a single knife throw that she'd easily evaded. It was obvious he wasn't a very good fighter, and he'd need help if he wanted to take her out. The fact that she couldn't instigate anything herself just made it easier on him to find the right means and opportunity. If he thought simply enlisting another demon would do the trick though, he was sorely mistaken.

(Hi I'm alive. Apologies for any mistakes since I'm on my phone at work hahaha. I figured I've let it sit for too long tho)

Rennyn rolled his eyes at Leilah's actions, as was becoming a habit of his around the angel. Instead of standing around however, he decided to trail after her, not bothering to make it seem like he wasn't. She was hyper aware of demonic energy right now, so he knew it wouldn't matter either way. But as he followed, he pondered more on their situation. What could a demon want so near himself? Was it a test? Was he being sent a baby sitter? It didn't matter, to be honest. Even if the demon was given orders to watch him, he would not allow it to happen. The fortunate part of being a demon was that killing a superior didn't really matter much, unless it hindered Lucifer in some way.

"Would you like to kill the demon?" Rennyn tried asking, knowing Leilah would still be listening for him. He also knew she would be suspicious of the offer, but that was to be expected. "I could make that happen you know. I was only limited in that I cannot target innocent lives. Your loophole lies with me."

He grinned, knowing those words would have to be of interest to her in some way, even if he sounded suspicious. She had to be looking for what her loophole could be, after all. It was pretty clear now that he was the only one that could provide it for her.

Leilah fully expected the demon to leave her alone--she was not in the mood for his upbeat attitude or subtle insults--but of course he had to follow her. She could feel his aura trailing after her, funneling oxygen into the fire. Two demons, probably working together, and not a damn thing she could do about either of them except making empty threats. And then there was the matter of what Rennyn had claimed, not that she could believe him. The moment she started trusting a demon, she'd be screwed.

In the process of returning to her temporary residence, aware he likely knew where it was already just as she knew where he stayed, he spoke up from behind her, just loud enough to be heard, and offering the last thing she would have expected. Leilah stopped and turned back to the demon, interest warring with distrust in her gray-blue eyes.

"You want to kill another demon?" She crossed her arms. "You just said yourself you can attack him all you want without having to worry about someone coming after you. Why don't you just do it yourself?" He could believe she was stupid all he wanted; something about this screamed suspicion. Sure, he was on the weak side of things, but he was a demon, and she was an angel. They fought each other; they didn't team up, and doing so once, to trick humans, for mutual benefit certainly didn't mean they were suddenly doing each other favors.

And she couldn't discount the possibility that he was trying to lead her into a trap either. He'd better put up a damn good reason to try and work with her.

Rennyn's grin widened. He could feel her suspicions, completely warranted. He wouldn't trust him either, particularly not in this situation. But what other choice did she have? And Rennyn had little choice either, so he voiced as much. "You're aware of my abilities. You fought me yourself. Combat is not my strongest area, and while I am here among the humans I stand no chance against another demon--one who was not sent here with any restrictions, doubly so. Separately, neither you or I can fight this demon. Unless, of course, the demon starts the fight."

Rennyn prided himself on his ability to provoke others. He had no doubt that he could goad another demon into recklessly attacking him, or the angel, as he had done it many times while he was still a fledgling demon. He'd once nearly pushed his instructor into attacking him, but alas he realized what Rennyn had been up to and avoided the situation.

"I'd be happy to explain it away from prying ears, only if you're interested. Otherwise, I won't bother you and I'll just leave him here to do as he pleases. If he doesn't encroach on my business, he's no threat to me. I simply don't like him being here," he turned his nose up to emphasize his point, and moved to continue walking with or without the angel. It didn't matter where they went to talk--her place, his, somewhere more neutral. But that all depended on whether or not she would be willing to try, or hear what he had to say.

Leilah didn't trust that grin. Not for a moment.

But what he said did make some sense, and she'd be lying if she tried to say that fighting a demon, any demon, wouldn't feel good considering her current frustrations. Not allowing her to start fights or provoke them... her mentor couldn't have sent her here for nothing, and she could only imagine it was a test of some sort. Maybe of her patience and seeing how she worked around limitations. Maybe his limitations were because of how quickly she had run into Rennyn, and this was the chance she needed to return home and finally have completed her training.

It didn't take long for Leilah to decide to at least listen to what Rennyn had to say. She still didn't trust him, but if his plan sounded reasonable, she might just go along... and watch her back.

He didn't get too far ahead of her before she started to walk as well, even going so far as to catch up to him, though being so close to him set her teeth on edge. His aura didn't feel as strong as the other demon's, but being in such close proximity still didn't sit well with her. "I'll listen to what you have to say, but that doesn't mean I'm helping. I might go along with whatever you're thinking if it sounds good, but if you're trying to lead me into a trap, I don't care what Khalanthris said, I'll take you down this time. I have more than an umbrella to fight with now."

    (word vomits)

Rennyn's smirk turns into what appears to be a more genuine smile, at least for anyone not familiar with him. He was sure that Leilah would still see it for what it was, but to be fair, Rennyn was actually terribly excited to kill this new demon. He could feel the humming of his own demonic energy, trapped and neglected. His wings yearned to stretch, but he would have no such luck any time soon--unless he could figure out how to bypass this mess he'd been thrown into.

"Great, we'll go to yours then since its closer," he responded pleasantly, already headed in that direction. Indeed, it didn't take long to get there and he was certain there was no surprise that he already knew which place belonged to her. Regardless of whether she spent time in it, her aura was all over it--unmistakable to any with the sense for it.

After being allowed inside, likely reluctantly, Rennyn made himself comfortable on the kitchen counter and kicked his legs out in front him, for all appearances looking like the borderline teen he was meant to. He threw his head back and continued to smile passively at the kitchen lights above him, drawing out the non-existent suspense and giving Leilah time to get more annoyed. He couldn't begin without that condition being met, after all.

"So as I was saying," he finally began, "You should be well aware of your loophole by now. That... angel that spoke with you before limited you only to defensive combat. If a demon were to attack you, you'd be able to respond in kind. Now, we could bide our time and see what that demon is up to, if he wants to attack you or whatever. Orrrrrrr~" here he paused for dramatic effect, checking her reaction from the corner of his eye.

"Or! Instead of waiting for him to get the jump on you, we could surprise him instead. I don't think he's a very high level demon, as he's showing his aura off here and there like he doesn't have any control of it, but I'm sure you can feel for yourself he won't be a pushover, so it would be in our... or your... best interest to push for the attack."

"Of course, you're not allowed to attack. You can't even provoke, but that's where I come in. Your fairy friend did not, cannot, forbid me from provoking others--particularly other demons. All I need to do is convince him to attack you, and you're good to go. I'd even happily assist you, though I'm sure you'll want that fight all to yourself, you seem greedy that way." He leveled his gaze on her now and waited, eyes clearly daring her to accept his strategy. The terms would be up to her.

(Preeeetttyy sure angels and fairys aren't the same thing Rennyn xD)

Rather than reply to her threat in any way, Rennyn seemed to ignore it and instead seemed almost as if he were in a pleasant mood, which of course only irked Leilah, who had to take a breath and force her hands to unclench from the fists she'd unconsciously closed them into. One day she'd get her rematch, and it was going to feel good.

For the moment though, she forced herself to be good and listen to her mentor. Rather than attack the demon, she walked with him silently, unsurprised when he knew just where to go. Even if her aura wouldn't have given it away, she was sure he'd been keeping tabs on her, similarly to what she'd been doing with him. Therefore, since she didn't intend for it to be nearly long enough for his aura to... stick or anything... she let him inside.

The apartment was small, pretty much everything laid out in sight. There wasn't really a bedroom, but rather a small area connected to the kitchen where a couch functioned as her bed. There was no separate room for a closet or a bathroom. The toilet--something she'd been horrified to learn the function of and even more horrified to actually have to use--actually sat in the kitchen, which was used minimally. The angel living in the space had no experience or interest in cooking and whatever food she forced herself to eat, she ate without preparation. There were no decorations or homey touches... the most personality to be found was the small pile of clothes heaped in a corner.

Door closed and privacy secured, Leilah expected him to start talking and turned to him with her arms crossed almost as if she could intimidate him into doing so. However, the demon seemed to have other plans, sitting on the counter and staring up at the ceiling without a word leaving his mouth. "If you're wasting my time, you can leave now."

There was another beat of silence, almost as if the demon were trying to prove a point, before he began to speak, but as Leilah listened, rather than interest or curiosity, it was mere tolerance that she expressed. When he finished, Leilah took her own moment of silence, hating that it was actually a decent idea. He'd said it himself that the demon wouldn't be a piece of cake, but she doubted he'd give her much trouble either, even under the limitations that'd been imposed on her so that she could blend in with the humans.

The real thing she had to focus on was thinking about whether to do this or not, even knowing it was possible and even probable that he planned on working with the other demon. She'd never seen this new one, never mind knowing his fighting style, and while Rennyn seemed weak, he was fast. Could she handle both, if it came down to it? She'd have a real weapon, of course...

She was willing to take the chance. One way, she killed a demon. The other, she killed two.

"You're right; I don't want any assistance. Get him to attack me, and I'll take care of the rest. If you join the fight, I'm going to have to assume that you're trying to kill me too, which I don't think Khalanthris would have a problem with, honestly."

    (HAHAhA Leilah's toilet trauma omg)

Rennyn pouted at Leilah. Straight up. He was mildly disappointed in her lack of reactions, but still pleasantly surprised she would agree. Even to his own ears, the plan was not in her favor. Well, he tried to make it appear that way, but Rennyn had a lot to gain from this--aside from the release of pent up frustrations. He wondered if this wasn't what the angel was truly sent here for, as he was pretty certain that an angel shouldn't be this hell bent on killing things, even if they were demons. But it didn't matter, Rennyn lucked out with this one. She was perfect... well, almost.

"Fine, I suppose I can hold back. But don't expect me to intervene if you look like you're losing," he said, which he figured she would scoff at. He couldn't see the angel ever envisioning such a scenario for herself, she was too headstrong, with a bit of ego to her. She wouldn't even ask him if there was a blade at her neck--even if she did, though, he'd want her to beg.

But that was getting ahead. Way, way ahead. They had to work some details out first.

"In any case, it sounds as though we have a deal. But we aren't done quite yet. I don't jump into anything without thinking it through, so you'll have to bear with me while I work it out." He leaned back again. To be honest, he thought he'd have to work harder for her agreement, but here she was already down for everything he'd said. He hadn't thought of anything further, with as uncertain as this all was. He decided to do his thinking out loud, maybe she'd participate even.

"He won't just let us sneak up on him, and that defeats the purpose of this all anyways. It'd be better if one of us approached him alone, though I can't say if it'd be better you or me. If it is you, he may attack immediately. But if he's smart, he'd try to lead you away, if it's even his intention to hurt you in the first place. He may have completely different goals in mind. In which case, it would be better if I approached him. Honestly, I've already got a few decent scenarios in my head for how that would go, but he might attack me before you if I don't play it right. So many decisions..."

(I'm sure angels and demons aren't used to toilets hehe)

For once, Leilah actually felt something like the beginnings of a smile form as she faced Rennyn. She wasn't sure what she'd done to upset the demon enough for him to get that look on his face, but she wished she did. Then she could keep doing it, and maybe she wouldn't be the one who was always angry.

Predictably, she rolled her eyes at the notion of the demon intervening on her behalf--or wanting him to. She could handle her own, and she wasn't about to take the chance that he might decide to try and pull one over on her. Honestly, even if demons didn't like each other, she still wasn't sure why he was suggesting working with her. He shouldn't want to, even if he was weak and needed help.

"Doesn't seem so hard to me," she muttered, when he mentioned working it out. He got the demon to attack her; she killed the demon. Sounded easy enough to her. Since he didn't look like he planned on moving off the counter any time soon though, she sighed and moved to the couch. Since it was facing the wrong way for her to be able to sit and face him, she ended up perching on the back instead, crossing one leg over the other as she easily balanced herself like that.

"Why don't you go and offer to help get rid of me? I've tried to stay off his radar so he doesn't know about me just yet, but you could. Make up something good about a temporary truce, pretend to ambush me, then all you have to do is stay out of the way until I take him out."

It sounded like a pretty good plan to her, at least.

(among other things. like starting to smell when they finally realize they need to bathe?)

Leilah clearly preferred direct methods, Rennyn could tell it simply from her demeanor. She seemed to slump when he mentioned working out the details and made herself comfortable (ush?) on the couch as he spoke. Even so, he was glad to hear her put her two cents in, and was even willing to humor her for it.

"That should be workable," he responded with a shrug, "don't be too surprised if that changes somewhat, though. Demons aren't like angels. He may attack me on sight. I don't expect you to save me or anything stupid like that if he does, but be on standby somewhere near so I can bring him your way. I can get him to change gears, so don't worry about that. He will definitely attack you first. It's more a matter of cornering him away from humans. Pretty sure we've discovered they don't like to kill each other on the streets." If their last run-in with the authorities was any indicator, that is.

"Have you observed any patterns? Where he's staying or places he's been lingering?" He'd be lying if he weren't curious about what the demon was doing, exactly. But it served the purpose of him scoping the area out as well, for location. The fight would be noisy, so it had to be somewhere no one would ask questions even if they did hear something. Good thing they lived in a big city--high end luxury transitioned to slums just by taking a walk down the road.

(Oh my gosh... imagine how stinky they would've been before someone told them to take a shower and they figured it out)

Leilah wasn't ashamed to admit to being surprised when Rennyn easily agreed that her idea could work. He just seemed like he wasn't agreeable and really enjoyed irritating her. She'd thought he would've just dismissed it and put forward what he thought to be the best course of action rather than go along with her. So naturally the amicableness he showed in this moment warranted a raised eyebrow.

"Even if I wanted to save you, which I don't, I technically wouldn't be able to attack him. Like you said, my loophole is that I have to be attacked, and I can't try to make anyone attack me. I can wait for you to bring him to me though." The thought of having to possibly wait for hours didn't sit well with her, but if that happened... well, there wasn't really much she could do about it.

As for the matter of details about the other demon...

"I've been careful not to get so close that he can sense me, which also means I know next to nothing about this demon. I thought you were responsible for this one showing up and kind of expected him to come find me and try to attack me or something. Since he hasn't really moved though, I got irked and came after you instead." She shrugged.

Now that conversation had moved into strategy, Leilah appeared more centered and calmer somehow. All traces of irritation and anger had fled, leaving behind what could've been called a pleasant person. She was in her element.

(Back on my phone, too lazy to set up the laptop haha. This could be all sorts of bad.)

Rennyn was a bit surprised at the angel's sudden shift in attitude. Not only was she now appearing to be more amicable towards conversing with him, but she also appeared to have accepted his word about not being with the other demon. He figured there was still suspicion in her mind, but she seemed to have rested it in the back. Perhaps he was getting somewhere with her, he wasn't ready to change the mood just yet either, as for once he was serious about the matter at hand.

"That's fine, it may even work in our favor. If you're near enough, I won't need to push him very far to validate my words. Maybe I won't even need to defend myself, if I play it right." He nods his head to affirm his words. "I'll do some recon this evening then, if he's here for me then he'll be expecting me. If he's not then I'll be putting myself out there for him to recognize when I approach him later. You can shadow from a distance if youd like but try to stay pretty far away so if he notices you he won't associate the two of us."

Leilah thought hard about the recon. Did the thought of letting the demon just go off and spy on the other demon sit well with her? Not in the least. Would tagging along do any good? Nope. She'd have to stay so far away she doubted if she'd even be able to watch Rennyn, much less babysit him to make sure he wasn't trying to plan something against her. As he'd said, the demon couldn't sense both her and him at the same time. Not that she expected he would guess they would ever work together, but for this plan they were coming up with to work, there couldn't be any sort of suspicion.

"It wouldn't do any good for me to follow you around," she grudgingly admitted after some time, shrugging, "so you go ahead. You know where and how to find me, so you can fill me in when you finish."

    (Here goes nothin...)

Rennyn again was impressed with Leilah's ability to see reason. He wasn't outright opposed to her tailing him, understood that mistrust still lingered between them, but was not expecting her to let him go so easily. He smirked and gave her a quick salute.

"You got it, captain. I'll just be off then," he said, and with that he left the apartment. He sincerely hoped this didn't take all night, as he actually hadn't eaten anything that day and his human-like body was protesting loudly. Bit of a dead giveaway. Oh well.

    -x-

Rennyn found himself back at Leilah's door several hours later, stomach still empty but caring much less about it than he had upon leaving. It'd been a long night, for certain. He didn't bother knocking, as that was a very human courtesy he never understood, perhaps because he'd never been afforded the luxury of keeping things worth protecting or any expectation of privacy. He assumed Leilah would have the same thoughts, and waltzed into the room. He didn't waste any time reporting his findings, ignoring anything Leilah might have to say upon his entering.

"He's lingering around here on purpose, I'm sure," he says simply, sitting up on the counter again, "He moves frequently, but never strays from that particular area very far. He hasn't been pushing too far near you, so you may be off his radar at the moment. As for what he's doing.... I was unable to determine. He didn't look to be stalking anyone or anything, so perhaps he's casing the area for something. It makes me curious but doesn't so much matter, as we know he'll be there--we can plan for his movements." He took a break here, thinking about everything he wanted to say and what he wanted to keep to himself. Would the angel misinterpret him if he said too much?

He hesitated a moment longer, but decided to move forward, "Fairly certain he recognized me at some point when I strayed a bit close. He beelined for me and I had to retreat, that's why I came back a bit later than intended, as I had to shake him from tailing me back. I took him pretty far away from his apparent comfort zone then circled back here." He sighed heavily here. He hadn't gotten much from the experience, but at least he knew that the other demon would follow him, even unprovoked--regardless of what his intentions were.

    "Our plan will work."

(Wow, this was longer than I expected it to be)

Leilah had fully expected Rennyn to come back when he was finished. If he was going to betray her, it was going to be later on, when they were supposed to attack the demon, not now, and even then, it didn't seem too high of a chance that he would, unless he was going to seriously underestimate her. In which case she'd have the advantage. It was all a guessing game what he would do, honestly, but she felt fairly confident that no matter the outcome, she was making the right decision.

She didn't bother locking the door, and with no idea what time he would turn up at, didn't give her body the rest it attempted to demand of her. She gave it food grudgingly and tried not to think, for the hundreth time, how she wished she had her angelic body back, which was far less fragile, didn't require food, and subsisted on very little rest--certainly not several hours of sleep every night.

It was late when Rennyn walked back in and once more made himself at home. Leilah didn't even get a chance to say a word before he was launching into what he had to say about the stakeout. "I've been keeping my distance so he wouldn't notice me," she cut in, although it was good to have the confirmation. In her current condition, she knew her aura wasn't as strong as it would be normally, so she was fairly certain when she first sensed the demon that she'd been out of his range of detection.

Leilah had no reason to distrust Rennyn's conclusion of having shaken the demon off him; she didn't sense its presence, nor had she once sensed it while he was gone. It didn't seem like he'd gotten much more information than what she already knew though. She'd known about the demon for some time, and the aura hadn't moved from its original area much, so she knew it was settled somewhere already. She hadn't known the demon was moving around frequently or what he was up to, but Rennyn didn't seem to know the last either. Overall, it seemed like he had next to no useful information.

Still, the only important thing was really moving forward with the plan with some assurance they'd be successful. "Then let's put it into action. It doesn't really matter if he'll be on guard for an attack, since he has to attack me first, so we don't really have to wait for him to let his guard down after sensing you... better weapons than what I have would be nice, but since I'm not supposed to be getting into fights with demons, I doubt my mentor would send me anything from home... so I suppose I'm about as ready as I'll ever be. I'd say let's go ahead and do this, but human bodies being so fragile... we both probably need to give ours rest."

Leilah didn't see any need to waste time needlessly. She'd gotten restless, not being able to spar like she usually would, and besides, the sooner this demon was taken care of, the better.

(Rennyn wasn't good at dialogue tonight. It wasn't my fault at all
I'm also sorry for cheating and not making the day pass hahahaa)

Rennyn agrees with her, seemingly just as reluctant. For some reason, he feels like even though he knows the other demon keeps up a routine and there's no foreseeable reason for him to deviate from it, he's somewhat anxious about leaving him be overnight. Normally, Rennyn isn't like this. He makes himself comfortable on Leilah's floor without even asking if he can stay (because she would say no, it didn't matter if he asked) because he's quite exhausted and he never ate, but he stole some water from her sink and a random cup she probably used regularly just before he settled. As he does so, he continues to fret about everything. What if Rennyn's observations were not sufficient? Well, he knew they weren't ideal. Really, he'd have liked several days, weeks even to get the proper amount of surveillance. They had no idea what they were walking in to, and whether or not their plan really would work other than perhaps getting the demon to follow Rennyn's predicted actions. That much he was confident in, but what about all of the other variables? He remained oddly quiet, ignoring anything Leilah had to say, or anything she did, because Rennyn really needed this time to reflect. In the end, the quiet was strange--the human world was so loud and even in the short time he'd been there he'd already gotten used to it. So he started talking to himself, because doing so made him feel better and if it bothered Leilah, then that would only be a bonus.

"Retreat isn't a loss," he concludes his thoughts, having gone through every possible scenario twice over in the short span of time that had passed since he'd last spoken to the angel. "In the event one of those outcomes becomes reality, we retreat and reassess. If angel is doing all the fighting, that gives me plenty of opportunity to observe them both. And if angel dies, that's not really the worst thing either. I'll just retreat on my own," he shrugs, as if what he just said in the home of said angel was perfectly normal and not highly offensive. "I can outrun her at least," he grins, eyes returning from the glazed over state they'd been in as he'd thought. He felt better, and the weight of the day pressed down on him at that moment. He was ready to sleep, and face the next day.

(You’re fine!! I had fun xDD)

Sleep didn’t come easy. Especially with a demon in her space, apparently content to invade her area and make himself comfortable rather than leave and return the next day. She comforted herself with the guess that he wouldn’t be sleeping easy with her around either, not so much out of fear of a sneak attack as her light bothering him. Even muted as it was, she knew it had to be uncomfortable to be around at the very least, just as his darkness irritated her senses.

Even after a fitful night’s sleep though, Leilah was up at the crack of dawn, changing into something comfortable that she can move around easier in. Unfortunately, her quest for armor in the human realm revealed that the best protection they offered their warriors was padding that could be strapped to the body in certain locations, none of which offered protection to one’s vital organs. The only useful bit of armor Leilah had been able to procure was something called a “bicycle helmet”, which came in a variety of vibrant colors that she ignored, instead choosing plain black. So, after getting dressed, she attached this to her head and strode out of her room, finding the demon still asleep in her floor.

She ignored him, going into the kitchen area and pulled out a handful of energy bars for them both, something humans ate and claimed abated hunger and provided energy. It did at least one of those things, as far as Leilah could tell, and to make sure her fragile mortal body wouldn’t revolt during the fight, she knew it would need food now. So she saved a couple for herself and still standing in the kitchen, threw one at Rennyn. Her aim was a little off, and it bounced off the floor beside his head, but she corrected with the second throw, and the package hit him in the face.

Leilah grinned. It wasn’t an attack—she was being friendly and offering him food.
