The Kids Aren't Alright | Closed.

Rae stood back, watching the stove heat up. She couldn't wait to be older one day and be able to cook like her mom did.

Matt looked down at Luna, his brows furrowing. "Have more what, sweetie?" he asked.

"Do you want some home made Mac n cheese," Elizabeth asked. "I need someone to help me grate the cheese if we do."

"Have more me," Luna stated. "Have more baby."

Rae grinned and nodded her head. "Yeah," she said.

"Oh," Matt mumbled, his eyes going slightly wide. "No, I don't think we're gonna have anymore babies."

Elizabeth grabbed a block of cheddar cheese, cutting off a chunk and put it beaides the cheese grater. "When you get close to the end of the block you need to let me help," she stated.

Luna frowned. "Why," she asked. "I want baby."

Rae nodded her head. She started gently grating the cheese, grunting as she focused completely on the cheese. It was a bit hard to drag it up and down, but she was doing it.

Matt bit his lip gently. "We're not at that point in our relationship yet," he said, knowing she probably wouldn't understand. He didn't really know how else to explain it to her.

Elizabeth began boiling the water, grabbing the pasta from the pantry before she checked on Rae. "You doing okay?"

"Why not," Luna asked. "You love each other."

Rae nodded her head. "I got it, Mama," she said, gripping tighter on the cheese. She knew her mom said not to let it get too short, but she wanted to show her mom just how grown up she was. She pressed the cheese against the grater and dragged it down, gasping when she sliced her finger. She pulled her hand away and cried out in pain.

"It's hard to explain, baby," Matt said. "Right now, you and Rae are just enough for us." He looked up when he heard Rae cry out, jumping up and rushing into the kitchen.

Elizabeth quickly pulled Rae's finger away from the grater as soon as she cried out. She picked her daughter up and carried her to the sink, washing her finger as she pressed a kiss to her forehead. As Elizabeth oooked at the wound she cursed under her breath, knowing she would need stitches. She grabbed some gauze and a clean dish towel and wrapped it around the wound, panicking and knowing everyone would blame her for Rae getting hurt.

"What happened?" Matt asked, looking down at Rae's hand. "Is she okay?"

Rae whimpered, crying softly as her mom wrapped her finger. "I sorry, Mama," she cried.

"Can you stay here with Luna and finish lunch," Elizabeth asked. "I think Rae needs stitches." She picked Rae up and pressed a kiss to her forehead. "It's okay baby it was an accident."

Matt nodded his head. "Yeah," he said. "I'll make something real special for you, RJ."

Rae sniffled, pressing her face into Elizabeth's neck as she cried. Her finger felt like it was on fire, like someone was trying to burn it off.

"You're gonna be okay baby," Elizabeth promised. She carried Rae to the car, getting her situated before she rushed to the hospital. They thankfully took Rae back quickly, numbing her finger and began looking at it.

Rae sniffled, keeping her eyes on Elizabeth. She was in pain and terrified.

Matt looked at Luna. "We should make something special for Rae," he said.

"Do you want to hold your mom hands while we fix your finger," the nurse asked.

Elizabeth moved to hold Rae's hand, hoping she didn't lose her or Luna because of what happened.

"Did Rae get a bad owwie," Luna asked.

Rae sniffled and nodded, squeezing her mom's hand. She felt so guilty for not listening to her mom, and she figured she was going to be punished for it.

"Yeah," Matt said. "She had to go to the doctor for it."

"I'm not mad baby," Elizabeth promised. "It was an accident."

The nurse stitched up Rae's finger and bandaged her finger. "What color bandaid do you want?"

"Will she be okay?"

Rae sniffled. "Pink," she mumbled.

"Yeah, she'll be okay," Matt said, smiling as he lifted her up. He set her on the counter, kissing her forehead.

The nurse wrapped a pink bandaid around the four year old finger before she looked at her mother. "We'll send her home with some some antibiotics and if her finger starts to hurt give her some children's Motrin."

"Thank you," Elizabeth mumbled.

"Can we have ice cream for her," Luna asked.

Rae sniffled, looking down at her finger before she looked up at Elizabeth. "We go home now?" she asked.

Matt grinned. "Yeah, let's make her a big sundae," he said. He set her down before grabbing a bowl, getting some ice cream from the freezer. "Why don't you go grab me that bag of gummy bears from the living room."

Elizabeth nodded. "We just have to go get your medicine and then we can go home," she promised. The brunette pressed a kiss to her daughter's forehead, hoping she didn't hate her now.

Luna grinned quickly going to the living room and grabbed the gummy bears.
