    After about fifteen minutes, I came back to their table with their food. "Two burgers and some fries for Jake." I said, setting his plate down, I then set his friends' plates down, saving the one that I threatened for last. "Last we have the double piss burger and some fries. Enjoy," I said, giving his friend a sick smile. I then turned around walked away. I hadn't done anything to his food, but instilling the fear that I had, was the perfect payback for talking about me like I was a piece of meat. Just as I walked inside, I watched as the majority of the dinner rush cleared out. I then began to walk around and collect my tips and clean off tables.

    "Once you're done with that, you can go on break, someone will take that table outside." I looked up to see my boss standing there, he was far from a gentleman, he was no better than Jake's friends. Half of my shift was spent reminding him that I was underage and would not have sex for a pay raise. I gave him a simple okay before finishing up the few tables that I had. I grabbed myself a drink and some fries before walking outside. I picked a table that was out in the sun and several tables down from Jake's, that way, I could hear if they were saying anything about me.

    Jake laughed shaking his head as he did so. "Thanks." He told her with a sweet smile before he dug into his burgers happily finishing them up and munching on his fries hearing his friends bitching about Paige. He rolled his eyes, "It was karma." He said to them frowning. They called him a girl and said he had changed. "Maybe I've changed, but at least it's for the better. Wanna know why you guys can't keep a girl? It's because you guys are assholes to them. Maybe try being nice and treat them well. Maybe then they'd fucking stay." He said before he shook his head sighing. His one friend said, "You only want to fuck her, I don't see why you're being a pussy." Jake laughed, "No, That's not my intentions so next time you wanna say shit at least know the truth man. She's actually pretty cool." He said. "She's hot." His friend said. "No, she's gorgeous and if you keep calling girls hot they'll always just think you want their bodies." He said before getting up. "I've gotta go man. See you guys tomorrow." He turned and headed for the exit.

    I listened quietly to his argument. It made me happy to know that someone stood up for me. I looked at the ground as I continued to eat my food. Watching the guys that he was with, I bit my lip, if Jake was so nice, why did it take so long for this to show? I chewed my lip, wondering if I should give him a chance.

    It made Jake upset to hear them talk about her like that. They had no fucking right. They didn't even know he. He walked on the street humming to himself lightly before sitting down in the park and taking out his sketch book. He started to draw a tree in front of him and was so focused on it he didn't notice how the sky got darker the street lamps illuminating the street in front of him.

    My shift was finally over. I got in my car, and began to drive down the road. I stopped whenever I saw Jake sitting on a bench drawing. I put the car in park and rolled down the window. "Hey!" I called over to him. "You need a ride home?" I asked, biting my lip slightly as I ran my hand through my long red hair. I didn't normally offer rides to anyone, but I figured that I could for him since he defended me from his friends.

    Jake looked up hearing someone call to him and noticed it was Paige and a small smile filled his features before looking a little surprised hearing her request. "Sure." He told her before gettting into her car and buckling up. After a moment of silence he said, "Thanks and I'm sorry for my friends." He frowned seeming geuninely upset about the whole .

    I smiled lightly over at Jake, "It's okay, you're not responsible for them. You stood up for me and I appreciate that. " I told him as I began to drive down the road. " I'm not entirely sure where you live though," I told him, glancing over at him, wondering what was going through his mind. He honestly didn't seem like that bad of a guy, but I was still adamant about not going out with him like he wanted me to.

    (it's okay! I just had a baby so I understand being busy lol)

    Jake smiled nodding at her. "I tried my best, which is all I can do." He told and blinked hearing her words a smile coming onto his face. "You're welcome." He told her before giving her directions to his house. Once there, he opened the door and gave her one last charming smile before nodding. "Thank you for the ride." He closed the door waving. As he went inside his smile faded seeing the trash his mom had made of the place.

    I gave him a small smile. "You're welcome Jake," I said to him, giving him a small wave as he closed the door. I chewed on my lip, watching as he walked into his house. I hesitated a moment before pulling away from his house. I drove home to see that my dad was home. I swallowed the lump in my throat and hesitated a moment before climbing out of the car. I really hoped he was in a good mood, I wasn't in the mood to deal with his usual shit. Walking through the door, I saw his jacket tossed on the floor, shit thrown all over the place. I chewed on my lip without wasting another second, I ran up to my room, hoping to get the door closed and locked before he came up the steps.

    Jake sighed dropping his bag on the table and beginning to clean up all of the crap in the floor, which was mostly pills and alcohol bottles. He frowned as he threw it all away and made sure the living room was clean. He found his mom passed out on the couch. He picked her up and carried her to her bed before closing her room door and sitting down in his room and running a hand over his face throwing something across the room his anger getting the better of him. He heard his phone ring and answered it to hear his dad say Hey. He shook his head hanging up on him. He had no right to call and try to talk to him again after leaving. Leaving his mom even though he knew she needed help.
