“The judge wanted more money to guarantee the jury would rule in your favor,” his father replied. “And this family will not be blackmailed to get what they need.”

“Don’t,” Matt snapped. “You have our baby growing inside you not me. Are you okay?”

Zack huffed in frustration. “I thought we were classier than that,” he hissed.

“I’m okay, Matt,” Fae insisted. She gently took Celeste from his arms and handed her to Artemis. “If you want to go hide out in my room for a while, you can. You know you’re always welcome here.”

“It’s not about class when your little whore is using her powers and tricking the jurors into siding with her,” he snapped. “Do you even care about your daughter?”

Artemis smiled at Fae, cooing at Celeste as she walked into the blonde’s room.

“Zack called me,” Matt mumbled. “He insisted he had nothing to do with what happened.

“Of course I do,” Zack said. “I love her. But I don’t think murder is the way to go about things.”

Fae nodded her head. “He told us the same thing before we left,” she said. “Do you believe him?”

“If you want Celeste away from her whore mother killing her maybe our only option,” he stated.

“Before he joined the cult I would have said yes,” Matt replied. “But now I don’t know.”

“I thought you needed her for whatever you were doing down in the basement,” Zack said.

Fae nodded her head. “I know he might be part of the cult now but I would like to think he still had enough sense to not do anything that would end up with any of us dead,” she said.

“We may not need your whore if her brother keeps doing what he’s supposed to,” he replied.

“I think he still worries about you and me but I’m not sure about Artemis anymore.”

Zack sighed. “I just don’t want her to win, not after what she did with Cole,” he mumbled.

“She made a stupid mistake, but it’s not something worth dying over,” Fae said. She looked down at her stomach. “I can’t imagine giving up a child.”

“She won’t,” he promised. “We’ll make sure of it.”

“She’s going to do everything in her power to get Cole back,” Matt mumbled.

“Just promise me you won’t kill her,” Zack said. “Please.”

Fae nodded. “I know,” she said. “But it won’t be easy, and I don’t want it to take the last bit of life she’s holding onto.”

“Why does Artemis being alive matter,” he questioned. “Do you still have feelings for her?”

“Well if Zack gets full custody of Celeste I don’t doubt that she’ll give up completely,” Matt replied.

Zack stared at his father for a moment. “No, I hate her,” he mumbled, honestly not sure what he felt anymore. His head was saying one thing but his heart was saying another.

“I don’t know what else I can do to help,” Fae mumbled. She sighed, leaning back against the couch. “This is so stressful.”

“Good,” he replidd. “Because she’s becoming a nusance.”

“You need to worry about the baby,” Matt stated. “I’ll worry about Artemis.”

Zack bit his lip as he thought quickly. “If anyone is going to kill her, it’ll be me,” he said. “I won’t have it any other way.”

Fae looked up at him. “How do you feel about all of this?” she asked, motioning down at her stomach. She couldn’t tell if he was upset, angry, happy or neutral.

Zack’s father smirked, proud of his son’s answer. “Good,” he grinned. “I’m proud of you son.”

“I’m happy but worried,” Matt admitted. “I was hoping we’d have destroyed the cult before we started a family.”

Zack smiled slightly, feeling happy to hear those words from his father. “What happens now?” he asked.

Fae nodded her head. “We should have been more careful,” she said. “But we can’t go back now.”

“When court goes back in session tomorrow we need Artemis to give up her rights,” he stated. “And you’re going to be in charge of finding a way how.”

Matt nodded. “All we can do now is make sure you and the baby stay healthy.”

Zack slowly nodded his head. “I think I can do that,” he said. He walked away from his parents, dialing Artemis’s number.

Fae nodded her head. She smiled softly at him and leaned over to press a soft kiss to his cheek.

Artemis set Celeste down on Fae’s bed, smiling as she laid down besides the sleeping baby when she saw Zack was calling her. “What Zack,” she mumbled.

“I love you so much Fae,” Matt smiled.

“We need to talk,” Zack said. “Can you meet somewhere?”

Fae smiled back at him. “I love you too, Matt,” she murmured.
