"There is when they won't fucking listen," Matt hissed at Madelyn. He didn't at all appreciate being undermined when he tried to discipline the boys. He wasn't treating them like them like his privates in the core, he was treating them like his children who didn't need to take off across the beach without him or Madelyn. Matt was incredibly tempted to just go back to the SUV, because at this point he didn't give a damn about spending time with Madelyn or the boys. On top of his anxiety, now he was angry and he didn't want to be around anyone at all. But despite all of this, he still trudged across the sand after them, snatching his towel from the beach bag and laying it out on the sand.
Matt felt like his back had barely touched the towel before he felt something poking his shoulder. He bit back the first thing that rose to the tip of his tongue, knowing it would only serve to make things worse than they already were. "Daddy, I wanna go in the water," Cash said. He reached up to pull the sunglasses from Matt's face and without meaning to, Matt snatched them back out of the toddler's hands.
He opened his mouth to scold Cash, but stopped when he saw the look on the little boy's face. It didn't help that he felt like Madelyn was practically glaring a hole into the side of his head. Sighing underneath his breath, Matt got to his feet before he reached down and picked Cash up from the sand. He carried him out into the ocean, listening to Cash laugh as the water started splashing against him.
