Where Hope has Gone

Lilith was really about to argue but as soon as he started she felt a bit better. She wasn't sure if it could be the medicine kicking in or not and she wasn't going to chance it. So she stayed extremely still and let him do his thing. When he spoke next and the vibrations actually went through her body she shivered involuntary. Deciding that was enough of that Lilith practically jumped out of her chair.
"I'm I have something to tell y'all so let's just go get that done." Without looking at him she quickly walked into the living room and sat next to her sister.

Eric let out a barking laugh at the thought of riding the cows away that would be a sight. But actually they could probably use the cows to escape if it came down to it. It wouldn't be pretty but he'd rather the cows eaten then himself.
"No of course not." He flashed her a quick smile.
"A couple of weeks at least. I mean I'm sure there are some cars around here we can get gas from, and failing that I know how to get it out of the containers at the stations. Plus there is plenty of food if you count the cows, and I'm almost positive this place runs on a well."

Jason chuckled when he felt her get still and continued until she practically jumped out of her chair. "Careful." He said softly frowning looking her over before he chuckled and shook his head. He wondered if he was getting to her. He smirked a little but figured he shouldn't say anything to mess it up and followed her and sat down in another chair and looked over.

Rae heard his laughed and smiled softly hearing his words and chuckled. "Well, I'm glad I don't seem clinically insane." She told him with a small grin. She nodded and said, "There are chickens and pigs as well. Aunt Jessie didn't like the horses so much - said they got out too easily. And Yeah, it runs on well water." She said before looking up seeing Lilith. She smiled at her and looked back to Eric unable to look away. She felt so safe with him around and she didn't understand it.

Lilith looked back and fourth at her sister and the other guy who she still didn't know the name of suspiciously. If he hurt her little sister she would hurt him, plain and simple. She shook her head trying to clear the thoughts, and paid for it with a fresh wave of pain. Glaring daggers at the floor she said, "Two things, one I think you have to hit them in the head to take them down thats the chest didn't work last night, and two I think if they bite you it might make you one of them. One of the people yesterday looked fine except a bite mark."
She avoid saying that it was her aunt cause she figured it would cause Rae unnecessary pain.

Eric frowned at the look Lilith had given him but decided it was probably best to keep his mouth shut. He listened to her words carefully all of this was actually good information. Then he wondered when she had time to learn this. She couldn't possibly have gone out last night, that would be insane. But that would also explain how she knew about her aunt and why that whole scene had happened last night.
Looking up and at Rae he said, " I propose we stay in groups of two if we aren't together. It's safer that way."

Jason glanced towards Eric seeing Lilith glaring at him and bit down a laugh. He could practically see the terror in his eyes and looked back at Lilith with a small smile on his face before it started to disappear as he listened. "Well, obviously, their brains are located in the brain, so neurological damage does seem the best." He murmured mostly to himself. "Also, makes sense. The virus isn't airborne, it's passed through blood. Much like a tick and lyme disease." He murmured looking up.

Rae looked at Lilith just in time to see her look away from Eric and listened to her. Hearing Jason start to speak she frowned before nodding. "That poses a question. Can animals get infected?" She wondered before looking back at Eric hearing him. She blushed seeing that he had looked at her and not Jason and gave a small smile before looking back at Lilith and murmured, "I say two groups should watch for those things at night so we don't end up getting eaten in our sleep." She couldn't help but to glance back at Eric.

Lilith nodded at her sister with a smile. Perfect plan that one was. Last night had been hell, but they could have all been dead had something happened. She was also curious about the animals but wasn't exactly sure how they could test it or if it would even be right to do so. She looked over at Jason for a moment and smiled before looking away, he actually seemed pretty smart which was good. "So I'm gonna be with Rae right?"

As soon as Rae suggested shifts he knew he had to somehow convince Lilith that she would be better paired with Jason. Because let's be honest no offence to Jason or anything but he did not want to spend all of his time with him. He looked over at Rae and then Jason as if to ask for help all the while trying to figure out what words to use.
"Actually it would probably be best if you were with Jason at least until your head is healed, he can help with that where Rae can't."

Jason smiled back at Lilith before looking at Eric seeing him look at him for help and shook his head laughing silently before rolling his eyes mouthing to Eric that he owed him one before speaking up, "Actually, that does make sense." He sighed shaking his head. Now, he wasn't just agreeing with Eric for his benefit, his medical opinion agreed. "I know i"m not your sister, but until those stitches heal and the concussion goes away, I'm going to have to say that if anyone should be your partner it should be me, just in case a stitch were to pop, or you fall asleep and I'm the only one that can wake you up safely." He explained to her.

Rae looked between everyone talked giggling slightly at Eric trying to get to be partners with her and looked back hearing Jason her eyes widening at the thought of a stitch busting. "Yeah. No way. You're partnering with Jason until you heal." She told her in a voice that meant it was non-negotiable. "I will not have you bleeding out all over the floor because I don't know how to give stitches." She told her before she could argue and looked over at Eric. "Which means, I'll partner with Eric." She gave him a smile.

Lilith muttered a few choice words before nodding her head in agreement. It wasn't like she was going to talk her way out of this one. With a sigh she looked around the room again and realized just how weird all of this was. 24 hours ago she bad been blissfully unaware of the craziness and now... She knew she should probably leave it be for now or else she would lose her mind.
"So what's the plan for today then."
She looked around the house particularly at all the large windows and decided it would probably be a decent idea to get them boarded up as soon as possible.

Eric mouthed sure back to Jason and then grinned at Rae. This was definitely something that would bring him a little bit of happiness. " Awesome." He replied to Rae with a smile. He wasn't sure what everyone else wanted to do but he was dying to check out the coops and pin to see of everything was in working order as well as to take stock.
" Can we check the place out a little today?"

Jason rolled his eyes at Eric giving a small smile and shook his head before looking back at Lilith. He thought for a minute and sighed before saying, "We should also look through what all is in the house and stuff. See what supplies we are dealing with here. We should see what kind of animals and are here and how to car for them, especially if we are going to be here a long time." He put his hand on his chin gently rubbing the stubble that had begun to grow there.

Rae saw his smile and smiled back before looking back at Lilith. She nodded hearing Jason and sighed before murmuring, "Well, we should also check the outer fence as well to see if there are any weak spots where those crazies could get in. Boarding up anything weak as well would probably be a good idea." She piped up before biting her lip knowing that it was only three other people but it still scared her to give her ideas out loud. She never knew if they would sound stupid or not.

Lilith nodded at her sister encouraging her to share. "I also think the windows need to boarded up, at least in the main rooms for now, they can come through them if they feel the need."
She knew the basics of the animals from long summers years ago when she was a teen. She wasn't sure if Rae remembered because she had been around 10 when the summer visits stopped but if not she could show all of them. That thought also led her to think of her aunt's safe in the top of her closet. That would be worth checking out.

Eric nodded along as everyone said what they needed to and then volunteered to go check the fence and animals. It shouldn't be that hard and they might even be able to find something for the windows while they were at it. He stood up to stretch is legs a bit and leaned against the wall.

Jason listened staring at the floor as he did so, letting the ideas cross over his brain and he began to nod encouragingly. "That makes sense." He told her and grinned at Rae before looking back at Lilith and asked, "Do you know how to care for the animals?" He bit his lip and said, "I mean, I would say we could google it, but chances are this place doesn't have internet." He laughed softly looking at her.

Rae nodded smiling softly seeing them giving her encouragement. She heard Eric and before she could say something he was gone. She got up and followed him catching up easily and said, "What part of two people always in a group, did you not understand?" She teased and walked with him looking at the fence. "Why didn't you want to be partnered with Jason?" She questioned looking up with a smile.

Lilith glanced over at Jason when he began speaking and nodded, "Yeah I'm not an expert or anything but I spent a couple summers on this farm and that was a requirement."
She actually laughed at his Google comment knowing he was right, that had been one of her hissy fits as a sixteen years old and one of the few reasons the summer visits had stopped.
"Well if they've got out there I suppose we've got in here."
With that Lilith stood and made her way to the kitchen best to start there and work around to other places.

Eric grinned at her and said, " Well you're here now so I'm not breaking any rules. I didn't wanna be with Jason because Jason is boring and you are not. Don't tell him I said that though." He added a wink onto the last bit.
They walked out a little ways into the yard where he could just see what looked to be a chicken coop. With determination he strode in that direction.

Jason nodded and laughed hearing her. "Hey, some memory of it is better than nothing. I figure it's going to be hard, but the general part is that they are animals. They need, food, water, and their pens cleaned." He laughed and smiled and nodded hearing her. "I'll check the bathrooms since usually there are medical supplies in there." He told her going into the bathroom searching all of the cabinets he could find.

Rae rolled her eyes with a smile. "You were going to break it if I hadn't followed." She laughed and shook her head giggling. "He's not boring. He's just boring to you." She pointed out smiling when she saw him wink. Seeing the chicken coop, she opened her mouth but he was already walking quickly towards it. "I wouldn't!!" She called knowing she was speaking to deaf ears. Sighing, she jogged to catch up with him.

The kitchen wasn't in such bad shape she made quick work of sorting through what was in the use by date and what wasn't. She wasn't sure if they could use the expired stuff for something else or not so she set it off to the side. What was left from the cabinets was decent but not enough for more than a week for four people. Her aunt had lived alone and she had no need for more food than that.
Lilith went to the fridge next and worked on that, this was a little more bare, but for the most part they would be okay with eggs and milk coming back in. Her work in the kitchen done she moved on to her aunt's bedroom, there was a safe she needed to check.

He made I to the chicken coop and was happy to find it was fully functional. He counted around ten hens and two rooster's that was also pretty decent. He walked to the pig pin next and everything seemed fine there. Deciding the animals would probably be fine for a bit longer he asked Rae "Wanna go check the fence out?"

Jason sorted through the bandages he had found, going through the gauze too, and putting it all into a basket he had which he assumed was meant as a trash can. He went on to the next bathroom before finishing up with the one inside the master bedroom. He saw Lilith in there and asked, "Does she have a safe or something?" That was the only thing he could figure that would have brought her into her Aunt's bedroom. He went into the bathroom finding more first aid things and was glad. He also found some contraceptives and raised an eyebrow. He figured he would ask Lilith if he needed to pack them.

Rae sighed catching up quickly and looked at the chickens and said, "We didn't know if the animals were infected or not! What were you thinking?" She frowned shaking her head and sighed glad that her anxiety seemed to be calming down now that she saw that he was okay. She heard him and gave a nod and said, "If you want to." She turned and started to walk towards the fence.

Lilith nodded knowing that Jason couldn't actually hear that and pulled the safe down from the closet. There was a little key lock and that made her think a moment before she remembered where her aunt kept it, the bathroom vanity cabinet. She walked over to the bathroom door and frowned when she realized Jason was still in here. But he was by the tub for some reason so she slipped in the bathroom and opened the cabinet.

Eric frowned but she was right, he was so not used to having to answer to anyone. They walked around the fence quickly and he only noticed one spot that needed to be fixed.
"Sorry Rae won't happen again." Probably, he would try at least.
They finished walking around the fence and he looked over to the barn.
"Can we go look in there?"

Jason looked over hearing her walk in. He paused before sighing and said, "I don't want to come across creepy or weird or anything, but there are some condoms here and I don't know whether we should keep them or not." He told her running a hand through his hair as he watched her before looking away awkwardly not wanting her to get the wrong idea of why he was asking. He hated that he couldn't ask questions like this without it being awkward because he didn't know the person.

Rae took a breath and looked over hearing his words and softened a little bit. "Just think before you do something." She laughed. "We can't do stuff like we used to do, otherwise I would be eating taco bell right now and on my way to the campus." She chuckled running a hand through her hair and nodded. "I think so. All the cows are out, so the only thing that should be in there are the pigs, which, I think she's only got a couple." She said biting her lip. "Just tread carefully." She murmured starting to walk over to the barn her hands slightly trembling because she was frightened of what she might see.

Lilith grabbed the key and then turned to look at Jason. She almost wanted to laugh when he asked his question but decided he might not care for that instead she looked up at him and put what she hoped was a convincing angry face on. "And just why the hell would we need those. " She stared him down for about a half a second before she couldn't help but grin. "Just kidding, you never know. Might as well grab them."
With that she left the bathroom and headed back to her aunt's bedroom.

Eric looked over at her and laughed, "Taco bell would be nice right about now."
If nothing had happened he would probably he at work making a schedule or taking a deposit in. It seemed like that time of day.
"Alright so nothing to be afraid of then." He walked forward and led the way into the barn, everything seemed normal. He grinned when he spotted stacks of plywood off to one side. That would definitely be useful.

Jason watched her and shrugged hearing her and said, "I don't know. That's why I asked." He saw her grin and smiled softly. "It would be way easier to joke with you if I knew you better." He laughed and nodded shoving them in the basket before heading out and saw her by the safe and then said, "Can I see whats in there? Or do you want some privacy?" He questioned with a smile running a hand through his hair gently.

Rae laughed her pony tail swinging as she turned to look at him. "I love taco bell." She grinned before walking forwards with him. She frowned hearing his words and murmured, "There's always something to be scared of." She sighed as she walked in behind him keeping close in case something came out. She looked at the plywood and nodded before seeing the pigs. She almost squealed herself when she saw a baby big and picked it up and smiled softly. "He's so cute!" She gushed.

Lilith just smiled, "no go ahead and stay."
She slipped the key in and turned it, luckily it popped open easily. She pulled the things out one by one. There wasn't much a pistol, box of ammo, a couple orange medicine bottles, and a couple offs and ends.
She grabbed the papers and locked through them, mostly there was just legal stuff which she seemed unimportant but there were a couple pictures of family which she shoved in her back pocket.

Eric walked around the barn, and noted there was a tool box in one corner, nothing else really seemed important so he walked back to Rae and the pigs. He looked at her and noticed she held one of the piglets. "Sure let's call him bacon though," he said with a grin.
