Finding Unexpected Love

Christian held her tight, rubbing her back gently. "It's okay, it'll fade," he said softly. He sighed softly, "have you got anyone else in your life at the moment?" he asked referring to a boyfriend or lover.

Gabby shook her head. "I've got friends, people at work, but that's it. No boyfriend or anything like that, if that's what you're wanting to know. She gently shifted her body in his arms, looking up at him. "Why do you ask?" She asked, nervously.

Christian blushed slightly and smiled, he felt good that she was single, which was strange. "Oh just that having others around at a time like this can be a big help," he said softly.

"I know, and they've been there for me. But their version of being a big help is not what I need." She spoke softly as she kept walking down the beach line. She took a minute to stop, looking at Christian.

Christian sighed softly, and let her step away. He nodded, "Well What do you need Gabby?" he asked as he followed behind her slowly.

He knew his friend would have wanted him to help her, as much as he could.

Gabby stopped dead in her tracks. She bite her bottom lip as she tried to think about what she needed.

"Christian..." She spoke softly as she held back the tears. "I just don't want to feel lonely anymore."

Christian watched her, moving closer. "Awh Gabby, you don't have to feel lonely, I'm here for you," he said softly. He moved towards her cuddling her again. "Seriously, whatever you need, just tell me," he said.

Gabby looked to Christian as he moved closer to her. She breathed in and out slowly, keeping herself calm.

“I just don’t want to be lonely...” She stopped herself. She didn’t know if she could say anything else.

Christian nodded, and smiled at her. "Well you're not alone," he said softly. He moved closer, yet again, and wrapped his arms around her lightly.

"Come on, lets call by the lawyer's, then head home," he suggested.

Gabby nodded, "That sounds like a good idea." She spoke softly. As they walked, she held his hand, walking with him.

She wasn't quite sure why he had to stop by and see the lawyers, but at the same time she didn't want to get noisy.

Christian smiled and walked with her, holding her hand lightly. He walked up towards the Lawyer's office, "He told to come round and see him, about something to do with your dad, before I left town," he said softly to her.

He looked at her, "you're welcome to come in if you want," he said.

When Christian told her it had something to do with her father, Gabby knew she needed to go inside with him.

'I think I should come in." She spoke as she kept holding onto his hand. She didn't dare let it go, nor did she want to let it go.

Christian nodded gently, "okay, come on," he said lightly. He held her hand tightly and headed into the office.

The lawyer smiled softly, and spoke with Christian, "We spoke briefly before the funeral, I'm glad you came around again," he began. Christian nodded, "of course, what's this about?" he asked. The lawyer sighed softly, "It's about Gabriella actually," he said looking at her. The lawyer then explained, that she would lose the house in a couple of months, because it belonged to the army. Christian frowned, "are you freaking serious? how can they do that?" he asked.

The lawyer frowned, "unfortunately I am, but he mentioned to me before he passed, that he thought it would be a good idea for Gabriella to come live with you for awhile," he said.

The look of worry instantly flashed across the blonde's face. How could this be happening to her? Hadn't she gone through enough already between losing her father and all. Gabby didn't say a single word, not really quite sure if there was anything for her to say. She just listened as the Lawyer and Christian went back and forth talking.

"Christian." She finally spoke up. "If you don't want me to do that, because I don't want to be a burden on you, I am sure I can find somewhere else to live. It's not like I don't have a job. I'm a Nurse Practitioner with a wonderful, steady job at the hospital." She started to ramble a little, tears filling her eyes and slowly pouring down her cheeks, staining her soft, pinkish toned cheeks.

Christian frowned and nodded, he felt bad for her. The army always seemed to stop caring about most soldiers once they came home. Sure some of them got subsidised housing and health care, but that seemed to merely be about image, rather than them actually caring.

He looked at Gabby, "no of course, I'm happy to help out, I'd love for you to stay with me," he said softly. He looked at the Lawyer, "I'll look after her, and make sure everything is fine," he said softly. He smiled patting her hand, "I don't expect you to have to be alone in a time like this," he said.

Gabby felt so relieved and relaxed when Christian told her that he would love for her to stay with him. She didn't know why, but that just meant so much to the young girl.

Wiping her tears away from her cheeks once more, Gabby just smiled at Christian now. She was ready to go home now, especially since she needed to think about packing and getting a storage unit.

Christian smiled at the lawyer, "anything else you need sir?" he asked. The lawyer shook his head, "no that's all, thanks for coming to see me," he said. He smiled softly at Gabriella, "I'm sorry for you loss dear," he said.

Christian nodded, "okay, lets head back to your place, and we'll figure things out," he said gently. He stood up, walking with her towards the exit. He was glad, she seemed relieved when he said she could stay with him, he had always liked her.

Gabby nodded to Christian as they walked out of the building. She was glad to be going home. As they walked back towards the house, she grabbed his hand. She just felt comfortable holding his hand, and she wasn't going to let go.

As they walked, Gabby looked to Christian and smiled. "Thank you." She said softly. "Thank you for staying with me. Thank you for being there." She stopped, stepping a little closer to him. "I know I shouldn't do this, but I feel like I should." She stepped one inch closer, "I would be lost without you here." She whispered before kissing him softly.

She then pulled back, turning her face away. She hope she didn't upset him.

Christian walked with her, holding her hand. He smiled softly, "of course," he said watching her move closer. He was intrigued to see where she was going with this. When she kissed him lightly, he kissed her back, his hand shifting up to support her back lightly.

He blushed when she pulled back, and looked away. "Wow, Gabby, that was unexpected," he said softly. He moved his hand up, turning her head to face him again, "unexpected, but pleasant," he said leaning in and kissing her again.

A deep rich blush washed over her face as he commented on the kiss. She was glad to see that Christian wasn't upset about the unexpected kiss at all.

When he kissed her again, Gabby felt her arms slowly wrapping around his neck, pulling herself a little bit closer to him. "Christian, I know you're my father's best friend, but I just..." She was rambling at this point.
