Jorel just looked at her. “Um thanks...yeah...im sure you’ve heard of me and my friends and how mean your friends can be to us so I was a little apprehensive about working with you, to be honest.” He said.

Maddie looked at him, “I know you’re surprised, you probably thought I was going to be a stuck up bitch like most of my friends, truth be told, I can’t stand half of them. Hailey is really my only friend, the rest of the popular clique just hangs out with us because of our families.” She explained.

“I wouldn’t exactly call the rest of them my friends, the only friend I have is Maddie,” Hailey said. “The rest of them are only around us because of our parents,” she told him honestly. “I’ve heard some horror stories about you and your friends,” she said jokingly.

“That makes a lot more sense, considering you’ve never been the one to poke fun at my friends and I, unlike some of the other ones,” George said. He felt bad that he had assumed she would be stuck up like the rest of them.

Jorel looked at her. “What did you hear exactly?” He asked. He had heard plenty of rumors about him and his friends and they were usually just that; rumors.

Maddie nodded. “I’ve heard about you and your friends. Most of the school is afraid of you guys but between you and I, I know some of my so called friends are attracted to you and your friends because of your bad boy personas.” She said.

“Just about everything, that you and your friends are drug dealers, that you do drugs, that you’re violent,” Hailey knew it wasn’t a secret and that he had probably heard all the same rumors that she had.

George couldn’t help laughing a little at that, “Oh don’t let the other guys hear about that. They might try and take advantage of that.” He shook his head, “Honestly though, we aren’t as bad as everyone thinks.”

Jorel laughed a little. “Wow, well yeah, I hate to say it but that’s all true...” he said. “We try to control it at school though.” He admitted.

Maddie smiled. “Honestly a couple of the girls I associate with wouldn’t mind your friends taking advantage of them, they’re weird. This girl Sierra, she has a huge crush on your tall skinny friend.” She said.

Hailey looked at him, “Its true?” She asked, almost not believing him. “Well, at least your trying to keep it under control.”

George shook his head, “Don’t tell any of them that they might have a chance.” He knew if his friends saw even an ounce of hope, they would jump right into it.

“Yeah, well, we do more drugs than we deal.” Jorel said. He stared at her for a moment. “So why aren’t you afraid of me?” He asked.

Maddie smiled. “Noted.” She said. She tapped her pen against her notebook as she thought of project ideas. She began writing a few down and looked over at George. “So is it true about the gang rumor?” She asked quietly.

Haylie shrugged slightly, “I really don’t know, you just don’t seem like a bad person to me.” She told him honestly, turning her attention to her notebook as she put down a few ideas for the project, “What rumors are going around about my friends?”

George hesitated for a minute, “I mean, if you want to call us that, it would be accurate.” He agreed with her, “To be honest, everything you’ve heard about us is probably true.”

Jorel thought for a moment. “That you and your girl friends will sleep with anyone.” He said. “I believe that about your friends but I’m having a hard time believing that about you.” He said.

Maddie looked at him. “Even the really disturbing ones?” She asked. She leaned closer, “So I heard that a couple of your friends beat up a freshmen girl and raped her.” She said softly. “Is it true?”

“As far as most of them are concerned that’s true, but Maddie and I, not so much,” Hailey laughed softly, she had hardly even considered sleeping with her former boyfriends, there had only been two.

George’s eyes widened, “Are you serious? People here think we’re that fucked up?” He thought he had heard all the rumors, and usually the violent ones were true, but his friends hadn’t ever raped anyone.

“Why do you guys hang out with them if you don’t like them?” Jorel asked her. He wasn’t sure why he was so comfortable with talking to her but he was.

“I knew it had to be fake. Even with how violent I’ve heard you guys are, I knew none of you would rape someone.” Maddie said. She looked at him, “so what rumors have you heard about my friends and I?” She asked. She knew there were rumors floating around about her and her friends too, not just the unpopular kids.

Hailey sighed, “If we don’t hangout with them, it’s guaranteed that we don’t make the cheer squad and Maddie and I love it so much that it’s worth dealing with them.

“The most common one seems to be that your friends like to sleep around, but I don’t think you’re like that,” George told her.

Jorel frowned. “That doesn’t seem fair. They seem like a bunch of bitches.” He shrugged. He honestly felt bad for her and Maddie.

“I’m not. Hailey and I aren’t like that, the rest of them, probably so.” Maddie said. “We tolerate them because we want to make the cheer squad, if it wasn’t for that, we wouldn’t even talk to them half the time.”

George listened as she spoke, “Wow so they can hold that over your head, that’s fucking stupid. You two should be able to be yourselves.”

“Yeah but they’re in control of whether or not we make the squad.” Maddie said. She felt so comfortable with talking to George, it was so weird.

Hailey shrugged, “Its high school.” She laughed softly at his words, “They’d probably ask if your friends wanted to hook up with them.”

George nodded, “So, they probably wouldn’t like you talking to me?” He understood, it wasn’t exactly good for a cheerleader to be caught with a burn out.

Jorel laughed. “Don’t let them know that, as soon as they think they have an opportunity, they’ll go for it.” He said. “Speaking of my friends, they might be lurking around the field today during tryouts.”

Maddie thought for a moment, “the ones who don’t like you guys, would have a problem with it. The others would probably ask if you could hook your friends up with them.”

Hearing that they’d be around the field, Haylie laughed, “Good to know.” Thinking for a minute, she looked at him, “Does that mean you’ll be there too?” She asked.

“Sounds like my friends and yours would get along well,” George shook his head. “Keep an eye out at your try outs later today, most of them will probably be there watching,” he laughed a little.

Jorel smirked. “That depends. Do you want me to be there? If so, I can definitely show up.” He said. He wasn’t going to lie, he wouldn’t mind taking a glance at Hailey in something a little more revealing.
