Our Way of Life

"Another game, Sammy?" Dean asked as he reset the balls on top of the pool table, aiming his stick almost professionally to the white ball. The brothers were skilled in this particular game, using their experience to bet among other players and earn themselves some income. Hunting didn't exactly bring in a good pay cheque, and they had to pay to keep Baby on the road somehow. "I think we've got a few tries in us." The eldest Winchester brother looked at the two businessmen the boys had just won $200 from with a smirk.

"Are you sure having a drink here is a good idea?" Allie looked at Angelina from the corner of her eye, shifting uncomfortably in the passenger seat of the Volkswagen Beetle. The two had just finished a vampire case in Michigan, and it was a long drive back to Kansas. Looking at the shabby bar, with a bright, neon sign above the door, Allie held back a groan. Supernatural forces, she could deal with. Creepy drunken men? She could not.

"Are you sure that's a good idea, Dean?" Sam replied, taking a swig from his half-empty beer bottle and glancing over at his older brother, "I'm all for making money, but you always taught me to never draw attention to ourselves and I think we've pretty much beat everyone in here..."

"Having a drink here is most certainly not a good idea, but since when has that ever stopped us?" Angelina stated, ignoring the small voice in the back of her head that was telling her to walk away, "Come on, we'll just have one drink and then we will hit the road again."

"Oh, come on, Sam, where's your sense of fun?" Dean was tipsy, and slightly over confident. "How about you just play with me for a little, then if anyone new comes, we can beat 'em. Besides, I think we have the right to celebrate a werewolf case well done." Dean saluted, taking a swig from his own beer bottle, although the amber liquid inside was nearly all gone, compared to Sam's half full bottle.

"I hate you, Ang." Allie groaned, her best friend parking their red Bug in the first available space. Exiting the car, Allie fixed her hair and tightened her jacket around herself. The air was unusually cold for just eight pm, and the sun hadn't even began to set on the horizon. Walking with Angelina, Allie looked at the brunette beside her before pushing open the door, the bell above the door ringing, almost obnoxiously.

"Fun?" Sam repeated, looking at Dean with an expression that clearly read are you serious, "This is not my idea of fun and a case well done, you nearly got your ass bitten... twice."

"No you don't," Angelina replied with a grin as she parked the car, climbing out and practically bouncing towards the front door of the bar. Watching as Allie walked inside, Angelina looked around before following her best friend and wrapping her arm around Allie's shoulders as she led them towards the bar.

"Well, hold up," Dean interrupted, clearly not taking in much of what his younger brother was saying. "Two ladies just walked in, think we should offer to buy them a drink?" Dean asked, turning to look at Sam with a glint in his eye. Dean was always respectful, but sometimes alcohol just blinded his common sense and let his inner John Winchester take over.

"How could I ever hate you?" Allie laughed, looking at her best friend. Angelina and Allie had attended medical school together, and were dormmates for the better half of their years of attendance. A freak accident made both girls drop out and pursue the life of hunting, and they'd been doing it since. "Two shots of whiskey please, strong." She smiled at the bartender as she took a seat at one of the stools.

"I thought we were celebrating a job well done," Sam quoted, following the direction in which Dean was now staring and spotting two girls sitting at the bar. Knowing that his older brother was no longer listening, he rolled his eyes and watched as Dean stumbled towards them.

Laughing at her friend's reply, Angelina snagged one of the shots that the bartender had just set down in front of them and winked at Allie as she threw it back without a second thought. Catching movement out of the corner of her eye, Angelina turned her attention to two blokes by the pool table and tried not to laugh as the shorter of the two stumbled in their direction.

"Incoming," she warned, nudging Allie to get her attention and motioning in the guy's direction with her head.

Dean smiled at the two ladies sat on the stools. "Hello there," his greeting was mostly aimed towards Angelina, but he smiled at Allie, too. "I'm Dean Winchester. What would bring two sweethearts like you to a place like this?" He took a seat to Angelina's left, spinning on the stool so he was facing them, holding up four fingers to the bartender. "My treat."

Allie put down her empty shot glass as Angelina nudged her. "Oh, brilliant. He's clearly already halfway on his ass." She murmured to her friend as 'Dean' tried his luck, although her gaze drifted back to the taller one, keeping his distance by the pool table. "We need a game once we drop this douchebag." She commented to Angelina, nodding to Dean in appreciation for the shot, ignoring him otherwise.

Watching from afar as his brother tried to charm the girls, Sam drank his beer and debated whether he should step in to save Dean the embarrassment of rejection or whether his older brother needed to hear the word no for once.

Ignoring Allie's moaning, Angelina returned the guys smile and knocked back the shot that he had ordered for them. "Thanks for the drink. I'm Angelina and this is Allie, are you and your boyfriend finished with the pool table?" she commented, standing up and looking at him expectantly for an answer.

Allie nearly choked on her shot at Angelina's brazen remark, turning her head away to laugh.

Dean took a moment for the sass radiating from Angelina to process. "Nice to meet you both. But uh, that's my brother, Sam." He replied coolly, although his face spoke a different language and showed something towards annoyance. "Hey, you any good at pool?" He asked. "We can bet $200, winner takes all, what'd you say?" His cocky demeanour returned.

Allie looked at Sam, by the pool table, before turning to look at Dean. "Are you sure betting against strangers is a good idea there, sunshine? We could be the best players in this place." From their years against Fraternity boys at college, Allie and Angelina had definitely built up some skill in the game, and she'd risk $200 to wipe that grin from his smug face.

"Your brother... right," Angelina replied, noticing the look of annoyance that he threw her way and smirking as she looked at Allie, "$200, winner takes all?" Angelina asked, earning a nod from Dean, "We're in." Hanging back a little as Dean walked back towards the pool table, Angelina linked her arm through Allie's, "Like taking candy from a baby."

Putting his beer bottle down on the table with a look of disbelief, Sam watched as the girls followed Dean over and chuckled at the shit eating grin plastered on his brothers face.

Allie giggled, squeezing Angelina's arm and following her lead confidently. "I'm just excited to knock him down a peg... or ten." She shrugged, nodding at Sam as they approached. "Do you have any idea how annoying your brother is?" She asked as she grabbed a pool cue, looking unbothered as she shrugged off her jacket, throwing it onto the seats nearby.

Dean looked slightly insulted by Allie's question. "You'll see how annoying I am when I win that $200." He grinned, taking Sam's beer bottle and finishing the drink. "Alright, is everyone ready?" Dean looked at Sam, knowing that they were good, but not knowing that the girls were better. "Let's add some salt to that wound - losers gotta give the winners their number, too." His grin grew wider.

Smirking at the look on Dean's face as Allie spoke, Angelina pulled off her hooded top and chucked it on top of Allie's jacket. "I think you hit a nerve," She stated, running her fingers across the rack of pool cues and selecting one as Dean added to the challenge, "Why not?" She told him with a shrug, "Allie breaks."

Glaring at Dean as he took his bottle from the table and drained it, Sam turned his attention to the girl that had spoken a few moments before. "I'm fully aware of how annoying he is, you should try spending hours in a car with him and his habits..." Sam told her as she took her shot, ignoring the look that Dean sent his way and moving around the table to avoid his brother's hands.

"I definitely hit a nerve." Allie replied to Angelina, looking back at Dean as Sam confirmed that his brother was annoying, making Allie snort with laughter slightly, getting a pink ball into a corner socket. Moving away for one of the brothers to take their turn, Allie raised her eyebrows as Dean stepped up to the challenge. "Try not to fall over, Barney Gumble." She commented with a smirk, leaning against the wall.

Dean winked at Angelina as he passed her, taking his aim. With a swift movement, the white ball hit itself against a red ball and a yellow ball, but neither fell into the socket provided. Dean raised his eyebrows. "You two got lucky." He commented, eyeing Angelina as he took a good look, unsure of whether or not he could spot an anti possession symbol on her shoulder. Looking to Allie, he saw the same, and he frowned, looking to see if Sam noticed.

Impressed by the way the girls seemed to be handling Dean's so-called charm, Sam couldn't help but wonder what they were doing out in such a sleazy environment and then he spotted the all too familiar tattoo that was visible on Allie's skin.

High fiving Allie for her insult, Angelina watched as Dean failed to pocket any balls and stepped forward to take her turn. Leaning over in order to take her shot, Angelina noticed the way that both brothers were checking them out and ignored the urge to ask them if they wanted a picture.

Dean nudged Sam with a slight frown. “Do you see what I see?” He asked his brother, suddenly sobering up a lot faster than he usually did. He watched as Angelina took her shot, gaining more points for herself and Allie. “Holy shit. They’re hunters.” His eyes widened as he turned to look at Sam, ensuring the girls couldn’t hear him.

Allie could feel the Winchesters’ gaze on her and she shifted on her feet uncomfortably. Playing with the hem of her denim shorts, Allie waited patiently for Sam to step up to the table, watching his technique. Glancing at Angelina, Allie’s eyebrows furrowed as she mouthed “what the fuck?” to her friend, knowing she could feel their stares, too.

Feeling Dean nudge him, Sam nodded in response to his question and tried not to give away what they knew as he moved forward to take his shot. If they were hunters, which going by the ink was more than likely they may not react well to being hustled and that was a concern even though they didn't seem to be armed or dangerous.

Noticing the way Allie shifted uncomfortably beside her, Angelina took her shot and then stood beside Allie to offer her some comfort from whatever bad feelings she was experiencing. Unsure of why the brothers were staring, Angelina frowned at the way Sam was staring at Allie and realized that it wasn't actually her friend that he was staring at... it was her tattoo.

Dean cleared his throat as he watched Sam take his shot. If these girls were hunters, they hid themselves well. He looked back over at Angelina, who stood in solidarity with Allie. “So,” He started. “Do you travel quite a lot?” He was trying to find a subtle way around it, without asking it outright.

Allie, after a few seconds of studying Sam as he gazed at her, realised that her t-shirt was a little baggier than something she usually wore, and her anti possession tattoo was probably visible whenever she was taking her turn. Sam seemed like a decent person, and she didn’t want him to think she or Angelina were cultists or anything. “Do you think they think we’re weird?” She murmured to her.

Shrugging in response to Dean's question, Angelina motioned for the bartender to bring them some more drinks and answered, "Here and there, the worlds a big place..." She wasn't a huge fan of sharing with strangers, especially ones that were trying to hustle them and it didn't matter if they were hot as hell. Hearing Allie mumbling to herself, she nudged her shoulder and smiled, "We are weird, weird and wonderful, just the way I like us."

They had never run into many young female hunters, but Sam was kinda glad that they had run into Angelina and Allie. Dean needed to be put back in him place and Sam... well Sam just needed something to hold over him for a while.

Dean nodded as Allie stepped forward to take her shot. "Those are some interesting tattoos you both have." He commented, again, trying to be as subtle as he could without dropping the fact that he and Sam were in the same boat. Looking over to Angelina, Dean studied her demeanour for a moment, accepting a drink from the bartender.

Allie accepted her drink from the bartender with a smile, raising her glass in a grateful manner before taking a sip. Getting in position, Allie overheard Dean's comment about the tattoos. Trying not to tense up, Allie gained Angelina and herself an additional 30 points. "Thanks," she replied on Angelina's behalf, stepping to stand near Sam as Dean came to take his turn.
