Writing Soundtrack

  • Since I'm writing more oneshots than chaptered pieces, I don't have a specific soundtrack for each one, mainly just a song, maybe two, that inspired it.

Most of the oneshots I'm working on now have been inspired by songs by Drake, The Weeknd, and a few of the tracks off Coldplay's newest album. Also, any of the new tracks off Big Time Rush's upcoming album that I can get my hands on are going to get a oneshot that's based off of them XD

  • My playlist for my NaNo is mainly made up of dance/electronica/industrial to fit with the theme of the story, which is weird because it means there're a lot of artists on it I wouldn't normally listen to, like Example and Nicki Minaj, but it's nice because I'm gaining a newfound appreciation for that kind of music. tehe

  • I'm just gonna revive this.

I tend to listen to a lot of Bring Me the Horizon, Cage the Elephant, and Escape the Fate, while I write.
My Punk Goes... playlist on spotify really has helped me as well.

Lately, The Chill Out Sessions has helped me stay on track quite a bit.

  • Mostly with my gang-centered chapter stories it's a mix of Guns N'Roses, Metallica and Pantera, but for other stuff it can range from Avenged Sevenfold to Mindless Self Indulgence, whatever I feel fits best.

  • For The It Girl, all the music on my Spotify account is the S/T in its entirety. It ranges from upbeat pop song and "Top of the Charts" rap for silly "Gemma moments" to stuff like Bon Iver, Sigur Ros, and oldies like Neil Young and Earth, Wind, and Fire for mellow moments with Tom.

  • The only thing I can listen to while I write and expect to get anything done is Augustana. Everything else is way too distracting, and I end up focusing on the music and not the piece that I'm working on.

Not everything I write is inspired by Augustana songs, or even fits the mood of the songs, but when I'm writing, I need to listen to something slow and a little monotonous.

  • I tend to create playlists of songs that range from all different aspects of my story, from the emotional side to the enraged side and so on and so forth. Normally they're on my iPod but not all the music that I want is on my iPod so I normally just make a playlist on Spotify. Oh, what my Facebook friends must think of me XD.

  • I don't really have a specific genre of music that I listen to when I write. It can be anything - though, I've noticed that it's mostly something that gives a kind of dark, eerie and intense vibe to it that I can write with or daydream with the most. Anything upbeat and happy can make me upbeat and happy, but I'm too distracted with my feels to really concentrate on writing, then.

  • I've moved on to writing to the latest two Owl City albums because, even though I listen to them in the car from time to time, I don't know all of the lyrics, so the lyrics can't distract me. Plus, a lot of the songs musically are less...I don't know....bouncy and electronic? than his older stuff, which for me, is easier to write to.

I also like to have DVD commentaries on in the background because it's easier for me to tune out voices than it is for me to tune out music XD

  • I don't usually listen to anything when I write because I find it distracting, but as of right now, I'm listening to Ed Sheeran's album, Plus. I adore Ed Sheeran and when he's not inspiring me with his words, he's creating lovely music which I'm able to tune out or listen to and write with when I need to.

In general though, I find acoustic music much easier to concentrate with than loud, poppy music.

  • I can't listen to music and write either, but I'm starting to put together a playlist of songs to listen to when I'm in the mood for writing but don't have any ideas. I put on those songs and browse through a few prompt sites and photos, and that usually gets me started. The songs have nothing in particular that make them good for writing, but they're the ones that spark the most creativity when I listen. A few of the songs on there right now are:
Angel With a Shotgun (The Cab)
I Am the Doctor (Murray Gold Doctor Who composition)
    Boy Division (My Chemical Romance)
    The Doctor's Theme (Murray Gold)
    Doomsday Theme (Murray Gold)
Oh Death (Jen Titus, for Supernatural)

Yeah. TV music definitely helps me a lot. It's not even the sort of stuff I would listen to usually, but helps me out so well when I'm writing.

  • Depends what I'm writing. For All Time Low Dan fics then their music plus blink, jimmy eat world, sleeping with sirens and a few others. For everything else I normally put whatever I think fits for suicide for example I listened to my sad playlist that has obviously loads of sad songs and it really helped me write.

  • For Godspeed I listen to Two Steps From Hell station on Pandora and for Girl Behavior I listen to Parachute, The Fray, Safetysuit, Mat Kearny stations on Pandora.

Though if I'm writing a scene that has a certain mood, I look for the right song.

However, A.Banks is perf for Iridescent which is an unpublished piece as of yet.
