Elise laughed as he reintroduced himself, rolling her eyes at how literal he takes things. “You act as I know your dogs — which I do, because hello Instagram, but you can’t just say the dogs to people you don’t even know.” She laughed softly, trying to explain to him on how to introduce himself to people. She realized after speaking that he probably didn’t even have to introduce himself that often anymore being as big as they were. There was a point where she had heard them on the radio, and being in rural as hell Maine, she remembered what she was doing. It was Dancin’ and she remembered Bowie dancing in her booster seat loving the song.
“Hi, I’m Elise, and I just moved back here from East-cuddy-bum-fuck Maine. I own the inn across the street from you and live in the slave quarters in the back, which creeps me the fuck out.” She laughed, nudging her head towards the window that shows the old-but-renovated building in the back. “I have a daughter who teaches me more than I teach her and...” she found herself rambling before she watched the look on his face. She swore silently inside her head as he asked his questions. Wanting to shoot herself in the foot to get out of the situation.
“She never met her father and that’s the way I always thought it would be. I never wanted to disrupt his busy lifestyle.” She spoke softly, dropping her hands in her lap and looking at them for a long while. Stirring in her silence, she took a giant deep breath and looked back up at him. “12, turning 13 in a couple of months.” She looked her green eyes onto his dark chocolate ones. “Listen, Lex. I’m sorry I never told you, when I found out, you just released Put Up or Shut Up and getting signed to Hopeless. You and Lisa were doing good and we hadn’t talked in months. I just figured life would be easier for the both of us if you didn’t know about her.” She was confident in her words as she leaned forward, her hand on his arm trying to calm him down. “Because you know now doesn’t have to change anything. If you want to be apart of her life now that we’re in the same city, I can try my best with that. If you want to act as if you don’t know, that’s fine. I won’t think any less. I’m not going to ask for anything. I made a mistake and I’m willing to own up to it.” Her eyes watched his, trying to figure out what emotions were going through his mind.
