"My bribes never failed." She told him, jokingly. Knowing that it was a pointless argument anyways. She couldn't really offer him anything anyways. She followed him, looking at him when he said he hoped she wasn't squeamish. "Was there or wasn't there a bullet in your shoulder earlier?" She questioned him, knowing that her squeamishness only came from dealing with humans. She'd seen some pretty disturbing things, but the sound of bones breaking was the worse. Peered into the building, forgetting that she didn't have any pants or shoes on, as she end up stepping on a stick. "Ow," she whined a bit, kicking it a side. She was used to walking around with out shoes on, but here she'd need them.

Grant chuckled, "well feel free to try, if you come up with any ideas," he teased back. He nodded, "oh right, stupid question," he said. He moved into the store and cut off a leg of the deer, that was hanging up. "oh sorry, watch your step," he said hearing her whine. He put the meat over his shoulder, "come on, lets go back inside find you something for your feet," he commented.

Following after him she watched as he moved, it was like he'd not even been shot. "Does it hurt?" She asked him, wondering if he was feeling pain from the wound. Because if he was he masked it so well. It was a stupid question, but she didn't want him to over work just because of her. "I've got shoe, I just don't like wearing them." She told him, knowing that her dad had insisted on her packing up her clothing only to send it away. The man could be an idiot at times. But that left her with few options as she didn't buy a lot of tennis shoes.

Grant shrugged lightly, "only a little, it wasn't too bad, only got hit once this time," he said lightly. He moved into the kitchen and put the meat down on the counter. "oh okay, want me to take a look at that foot, see if it has a splinter or anything?" he asked lightly. He knew that most of her clothes would be at one of her fathers safe houses, sitting waiting to be picked up. Grant just didn't want to risk it, this early on, maybe after several days, maybe a week.

"How many times have you been shot, if you don't mind me asking?" She questioned him. Wanting to know after what how many does it not longer hurt. She couldn't believe that he'd dug a bullet out of his own shoulder. This man would be scary if he wasn't someone her father trusted. Even though her father was a moron at times. He still was a pretty good judge of character. Though people did tend to change. Some more than others. "I'd appreciate it, though you don't have to." She told him feeling kind of bad that he was worried about a possible cut on her foot and he had a bullet wound.

Grant smiled politely at her, "I lost count after the twentieth," he said softly, he pointed to a scar on his, "this one was the worst, I had to keep it in there, and crawl through the middle of the desert for like ten days," he said. He moved closer to her, "It comes with the territory though," he explained. He led her to a chair and knelt down, "come on let me have a look," he said waiting for her to raise her foot

She listened to him speak, shaking her head she couldn't believe he'd put himself through so much. And all for what? This last one was her fault. She was lost in her thoughts that she barely noticed him squat before but she lifted her legs giving him access to her foot. "Why keep doing it?" She asked him, knowing that there must be a reason why he kept putting himself through the pain.

Grant smiled gently up at her, as he check over her foot gently. "Well I was retired, out of the game, but I owed your father, so I came to protect you, just him reaching out after what happened, meant it was serious," he said lightly. He rubbed her foot gently, "When I read that it was about his daughter, it only cemented that I needed to help, For your mom," he said.

Aeri furrowed her brow, "wait you knew my mother?" She questioned him. There wasn't many people she knew that remember her mother. After all she'd passed away when she was ten. Most of the people in her life were new and annoying. All the people that did know her seemed to distance themselves the more powerful her father got.

Grant smiled gently, "Yeah, I knew her," he said softly. He shifted back, "It was one of the hardest things when she choose him, but I understood, I had just enlisted, and he was still just a business studies major, at the time," he said lightly. He put her foot down, "It's fine, just a little scrap, should heal pretty quick," he said gently.

"Wait the reason for the falling out, was over my mom?" She questioned him. Wondering if her mother had been two timing. She didn't think her mother would have been that type of person. But she didn't really know much about her past. She stood before moving to the fridge, figuring while they were talking in here she could get the salad ready.

Grant shook his head, "no it wasn't anything like that," he said softly. He smiled softly, "we fell out, over a job," he said lightly. He stood up and moved to the sink cleaning his hands. "But that is something we agreed to never talk about," he said

"Okay so did you love her?" She questioned, "and I don't mean love like you cared for her but in love with her." She said, thinking that if things had gone differently this man could have possibly been her father. She wondered what kind of job that would ruin a friendship.

Grant smiled gently, "I liked her, and yes I probably would have come to love her, if she hadn't of fallen for your father," he said lightly. He started working on the meat, getting it prepped to bbq it. He looked at her, "it was complicated, as many things are," he said.

"Sorry I didn't mean to pry." She told him, knowing she'd went a bit over board with it. "But my father won't talk about her. And you're the first person I've met that actually knew her." She told him. She hated to bring up bad memories for people, but she wanted to know more about her mother. Though she figured it was best to let it go.

Grant smiled and looked at her, "It's fine, I understand being curious," he said softly. He worked away carefully, "I'm happy to have someone to talk to for a change, I'm so used to being alone up here," he told her.

Aeri smiled as she went about making a salad. "Well I'm glad I can do something for once." She told him. Knowing that it did get lonely, but you didn't have to be alone to be lonely. She could have had a castle full of people and still been lonely.

Grant nodded, "feel like you get a little too pampered?" he teased. He smiled as he lifted the leg, and headed outside, "I'll be right back," he said softly. He started the bbq, and set it to cook the meat, before he left it and headed inside. "So what do you feel like doing while we wait for that?" he asked

"Well what do you think?" She questioned, knowing that she'd never had to do anything ever unless she wanted to. Placing a cover on the salad she placed it in the fridge. She turned to hear him come back in. "What is there to do?"
