I Know I Love You

“It’s E-M-I-L-Y , I believe.” Kai chuckled whenever he saw how Beomgyu had written the red head’s name. “Close enough though.” He chuckled as he began doing the same thing but instead of writing Rose’s name, he drew a rose, with a heart.

“Really? They seemed nice to us when we met them in the last class.” Emily said, as she turned to look at Rose, to see if she agreed with her.

Before Yeonjun could speak, someone cut him off, “you know, for someone who runs that gaping hole so much, you figure you would learn how to shut the fuck up, Yeonjun.” Jay said, as he looked over at Yeonjun and Taehyun.

“And yes, we will let Jake and Heeseung know you two were talking shit.” Niki smirked from beside Jay.

Beomgyu looked to Kai’s notepad and smirked. “You’re one to talk when you have it just as bad as I have,” Beomgyu laughed, but silently he wondered, just why it was so easy to fall for the beauty with the red hair and sweet smile. Scribbling out EMYLY, Beomgyu was quick to re-write EMILY, doodling a heart beside her name with a smile. “Love is easy.”

Rose nodded along with Emily’s words, her arms folded on top of the desk as she watched Yeonjun and Taehyun intently. “They did.” She nodded, although she paused as two others came over, and with the words they spoke to Yeonjun, Rose frowned, glaring at the pair.

Yeonjun rolled his eyes. “Tell them all you want, Niki, I couldn’t give less of a fuck.” Yeonjun snarled back, not wanting the younger Taehyun to be targeted. “In fact, let me give you something else to tell them: you’re all a bunch of fucking bullies who want nothing more than easy sex and to stay at the top of the damn food chain. How’s that for running my gaping hole so much?”

Kai chuckled. “I guess we both got it bad, huh? I’m surprised Soobin hyung hasn’t scolded us.” He chuckled as he drew some more hearts and even Ross’s name under the picture of the rose flower.

Jay rolled his eyes before making a crying motion with his hands, “wah wah wah, sounds like someone is just bitter that their girlfriend broke up with them for a real man.” Jay smirked, seeing anger flash across Yeonjun’s face.

While it was partly true, Yeonjun’s girlfriend Sana did break up with him, for Jay, but it was only because Jay convinced her that Yeonjun was a horrible person, but the latter didn’t need to know that.

Beomgyu laughed. “Even if he did scold us, it wouldn’t matter.” Beomgyu but his lip, resting his chin in the palm of his hand as he doodled hearts around Emily’s name. “Because just knowing she’s around makes me feel like this year is going to be a good one for us,” Beomgyu shrugged, his warm cardigan moving with him. “Even if it isn’t…”

Yeonjun’s fists clenched and he stood to his feet, grabbing the arrogant boy by the front of his shirt. “Don’t play that game with me, Jay. Don’t you dare bring Sana into this, her name doesn’t deserve to come out of your mouth!” And Yeonjun threw Jay over his desk, allowing himself to go back to old habits.

“I hope with them being around, it will be better but I don’t trust Jake or any of them.” Kai sighed. “I wish they would just leave but since Sunoo’s dad is school so it doesn’t go under, I doubt they’ll be leaving for another year or two.” He sighed.

Taehyun immediately went to stop Yeonjun. “Yeo stop, he’s just trying to get you worked up. This is what they want.” He said, holding Yeonjun back. “Come on, they’re not worth it.” Taehyun said. “Yeah, go ahead, run away like you always do, Taehyun.” Niki snickered.

Rose placed her hands over her mouth in shock. “Should we go and get someone?” She leaned to ask Emily quickly.

Beomgyu nodded miserably. “We just have to be patient.” Beomgyu murmured. “Play our cards right, you know?”

Yeonjun listened to Taehyun for a moment, but felt himself relax, nodding. “You’re right, Tyun. They’re nothing but spoilt brats.” He frowned, cracking his knuckles as Niki spoke up. “Although, maybe this one could be taught a thing or two.”

“Don’t worry, they won’t actually beat each other up, not on school grounds, at least.” Another boy said, “Hi, I’m Sunghoon.” He was friends with Jake and them but he was nice, unlike the rest of his friends.

Jay was instantly in front of Niki when Yeonjun threatened to swing on the younger. “Touch him and I’ll expose every little dirty secret you keep hidden from Soobin and the rest of your friends.” Jay growled out, smirking as Yeonjun backed down.

“Five more minutes and then class will be over.” Kai said. “Are you ready to make a run for it?” He asked Beomgyu, as he started packing his bag.

Rose, who was sticking close to Emily, paused as she heard the voice. “Hi, Sunghoon. I’m Rose, this is my best friend, Emily, and this wasn’t what we were expecting on our first day.”

Yeonjun frowned, spitting at Jay. “Dirty little snitch.” Yeonjun growled. “If I had my way, you and your shitty friends would be out of this district so fast. You swoop in on everything because you always have to be first. What a sad life to live.”

Beomgyu nodded, already packing his things away. “Don’t get distracted. Just straight to the cafeteria.” He instructed. “As soon as the bell goes,”

Sunghoon smiled. “A pleasure to meet both of you, also I apologize for my friends’ behavior.” He sighed. “Whose?” Emily asked. “Jay and Niki’s.” He said.

Jay smirked before looking past him. “Sunghoon, let’s go.” He snapped. Sunghoon smiled, “it was nice meeting you both.” He said, as he bowed, before following Jay back to where he was sitting with him and Niki at.

Yeonjun sighed and sat back down. “Sorry you had to see that..” he said to the girls. “They are not nice guys at all.”

Kai nodded as he put his bag on his shoulder and made sure his shoes were tied tight enough so he didn’t trip. He watched the clock as he scooted closer to the edge of his seat.

Rose blinked in surprise at the contrast between Sunghoon’s behaviour and Niki and Jay’s behaviour, but hearing Yeonjun, Rose nodded. “Hey, it’s okay. You can really fight, huh?”

Taehyun laughed. “He’s the best fighter in school.”

Beomgyu nodded, placing his bag over his shoulder. “Ready?” He asked, watching the clock in anticipation before the polite sound of the bell rung out. Standing from his chair, Beomgyu pulled Kai with him as he ran.

“When you grow up in an abusive home with an alcoholic father and younger siblings to protect, fighting is all you can do.” Yeonjun said, as the bell rang and he got up, not even waiting for Taehyun before walking out.

Emily frowned, “is he going to be okay?” She asked Taehyun. She felt bad for Yeonjun now, but it made sense why he was such a good fighter.

Kai almost fell as Beomgyu pulled him along but he managed to catch himself as they dodged people and made their way to the cafeteria to wait for the girls.

Taehyun exhaled, rubbing at the back of his neck. “He’ll be okay. Jay and Niki just got under his skin…” Taehyun frowned then. “C’mon, let’s get you two to the cafeteria.”

Rose followed Taehyun quietly, adjusting her bag over her shoulder.

Beomgyu stretched onto his tip-toes to look over the crowds of students for any sign of the girls, his heart beating a million miles an hour in his chest. “I’m so nervous, Kai!”

Emily nodded and followed them. “Taehyun, where’s Yeonjun?” Soobin asked whenever he saw Taehyun walking with the two girls but there was no sign of Yeonjun.

Kai looked around, “not yet but I think we beat Jake and Heeseung.” He smiled. “Here comes the girls with Taehyun and Soobin, but I don’t see Yeonjun.” Kai frowned, wondering what happened to the eldest hyung.

Taehyun sighed. “He’s gone for a walk to cool himself, there was a bit of a clash between him and Jay,” Taehyun explained. “Jay mentioned Sana. I’ll go looking for him once the girls are reunited with Kai and Beomgyu.” Taehyun explained. “You need to stay here Soobin-hyung, make sure that no one bothers them.”

Soobin nodded. “This way, girls.” Soobin led them to the cafeteria, swiftly changing the subject so Taehyun could slip off quietly. “Oh, look, they’re here already.”

Rose’s face lit up as she saw Kai. “Hi Kai!”

Beomgyu saw Emily and felt his whole world light up, and he found it almost ridiculous, how easily she captured his heart. “Emily. Hi!” He said happily. “How was your first class?”

“Beomgyu! Hi!” Emily smiled, as she went over to him. “It was…interesting…some of Jake’s friends provoked Yeonjun.” She frowned.

“Yeonjun was in your class?” Kai asked them. “And Taehyun.” Emily said. “We did meet someone named Sunghoon? He said he’s friends with Jake and them but his personality is way different.”

“Ah, yes, Sunghoon is really sweet. Me, Beomgyu and Sunghoon used to all be best friends before Jake and them latched onto him. We don’t know why he hangs around with them still, he is super sweet & everyone loves him.” Soobin explained.

Beomgyu nodded along with Soobin’s words. “Sunghoon is a kind boy, he would look after you if a fight broke out.” Beomgyu explained in his best, broken English. “But are you okay, Emily?”

Rose listened quietly, understanding why Sunghoon was so different - he hadn’t been apart of the original gang Jay and Niki were in. “But how was your class, guys?” She asked, not wanting to linger on them for too long.

Soobin made kissy faces behind the girls before leading the way into the cafeteria.

“Yes, yes, I’m okay.” Emily smiled as she followed them into the cafeteria. She couldn’t wait to try to actual authentic Korean food. “It smells so good in here.”

“Yeah, it was good.” Kai smiled. He grabbed a tray and handed one to Rose. “Have you ever had Korean food?” He asked her.

Jake was sitting at his usual table with the rest of his friends. “Those little shits.” He mumbled, seeing Emily and Rose walk in with Beomgyu, Kai and Soobin.

Beomgyu carefully handed Emily a tray, smiling softly. “You’ll enjoy the food. It’s delicious.” He grinned, leading Emily to the plenty of options that the school had to offer. He grabbed some food for himself, watching Emily with adoration. “What catches your eye? Have you had Korean food before?”

“Thank you,” Rose smiled at Kai for her tray, following him closely. “Nothing authentic, no,” she explained. “I love food though, so I hope I find something delicious.” She grinned. “What’re you having?”

Soobin pouted when none of his youngers got him a tray. “Rude!” He playfully scolded.

Jay looked over his shoulder, rolling his eyes. “You’re going to let those losers take your girls?”

“Nothing authentic, no, but I love food so I will try anything.” Emily smiled as Beomgyu showed her all the options. She picked a few things before grabbing a chocolate milk and a bottle of water and following Beomgyu to a table.

“I usually get spicy rice cakes.” Kai smiled and pointed to them. “They’re good.” He said before putting some vegetables on his tray too.

“No. I have an idea, Jungwon, when you and Niki go to take your trays, maybe you accidentally trip and the rest of your food lands on Beomgyu and Kai.” Jake smirked.

Beomgyu smiled with Emily’s words, watching what she chose with amusement. “I hope you enjoy it!” He grinned. “Do you eat with chopsticks?” He grabbed himself a strawberry milk, happily following Emily, just enjoying being in her company.

Rose smiled and took a spicy rice cake, thinking that if Kai enjoyed them, then they must be delicious. Grabbing some ramen and vegetables, Rose finished off with a strawberry milk, waiting for Kai.

Jungwon smirked. “Watch this.” He winked, standing up to get some more ramen, whistling happily as he lingered behind Kai, watching as Niki joined him. “What do you have there, Huening?” Jungwon asked as he placed his ramen on his tray, moving past Rose and ‘tripping’, spilling everything on Kai. “Oh, Kai, I’m soooo sorry!”
