It All Comes Down to This

Not wanting to show that she wasn't sure, Angelina shifted a little closer to Allie and closed her eyes. Ever since the curse, Angelina had been slowly spiraling and was no longer sure if she really wanted to get through it. Perhaps the easiest way out was to let it take her...

Sam hovered by the door, not wanting to overcrowd the girls and yet, still managing to keep a close eye on Allie. The girls looked worse, which should have been impossible... but it was true and Sam wasn't sure how long they really had to fix things.

“We’ll be down the hall if you need us.” Dean promised quietly.

Allie nodded, quickly falling asleep beside Angelina, grateful she had her best friend beside her, because she wasn’t sure how much longer she could be strong.

It was true that you never knew how strong you were, until being strong was all you could be and Angelina was beginning to see that. Despite feeling terrible, she threw Dean a soft smile and allowed herself to drift off.

"I don't think they have 40 days, Dean..." Sam told his brother as they entered the kitchen, grabbing a beer and fighting back the hint of panic that seemed to be stirring, "What do we do?"

Dean went to the library to grab a book, shoving it at Sam. “Spell book, can you search for anything familiar, see if it has a remedy?” Dean asked, before grabbing himself a beer, leaning back in his chair and wondering if Angelina was okay.

The book was huge, but every spell had specific symptoms and Sam soon came across one that seemed to fit. "What about this one?" he said, holding the book out and allowing Dean to read it through.

Dean frowned as he read through the page. “Confessing your deepest, most intimate fear? Like they’re gonna do that, they hate us!”

"If that's the only way to cure them, they have no choice..." Sam added honestly.

Dean rubbed a hand over his face before nodding. “Okay… should we go and wake them up?”

"I think the sooner we do, the better it'll be for everyone," Sam added.

Dean nodded, picking up the book. “C’mon,” he told Sam. “Like you said, the sooner we get this done, the better it’ll be everyone.” Dean sighed. “At least Bobby knew to come to us for help, but still.” Treading down the hallway, Dean knocked on the door of the bedroom the girls shared. “Ladies?”

Angelina stirred as the sound of Dean's voice cut through her restless sleep and attempted to speak, letting out nothing more than a mumbled groan. She felt like hell, literally, she was burning up and her skin was sensitive to the touch as if she'd been burnt.

"I think that was a 'come in', but I'm not sure..." Sam told his brother, unsure of what to do and following Dean's lead.

Dean nodded, leading the way in. “Girls, we know to fix this.” Dean sighed, looking at the pair. “It’s… well, you might not like it. Confessing your most intimate fear to a stranger. We can definitely get it done tonight.”

"How... that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard," Angelina stated, "Yet, it's probably right, why are witches so sneaky?"

"You'll find that she probably didn't think you would try something so easy," Sam answered with a shrug, "People tend to try the hardest things before the easiest, but we're certain that this will work."

Dean nodded. “It’s dumb, I know.” He promised. “Sam, take Allie to your room.” When he saw the look Allie and Angelina gave him, he shrugged his shoulders. “Chances are, you two already know each other’s worst fear. It has to be a stranger, or it won’t work.”

Allie nodded, reluctantly standing up.

Angelina watched as Allie left, feeling anxiety again stir in her chest and sitting up. The truth was that she had many fears and it was hard to pick just one, since they all scared her just as much.

Sam led Allie to his room and perched on the edge of his television cabinet, motioning to the bed. "I know that this is probably the last thing you want to do, but it'll help... what is your deepest, most intimate fear?"

Dean sat on the edge of the bed that had been untouched, and he looked to Angelina with curiosity, raising his eyebrows. “So, what is your deepest fear?” Dean asked. “You can hate me all you want after this, but tonight, we have to be friends.”

Allie sat cross legged on Sam’s bed, the smell of his cologne relaxing her. Chewing the nail of her thumb, Allie exhaled. “My deepest, most intimate fear is being alone. Unloved. I’ve had Angelina by my side for so long, I - I don’t think I could hack it without her,” Allie felt herself regain strength, so she carried on talking. “I just want to be someone who helps others, and being alone? Worthless? That’s my biggest fear.”

Angelina sighed, looking down at her hands and biting her lip. "I don't hate you, I just don't know you," Angelina admitted quietly, taking a deep breath and looking over at Dean, "My deepest fear is that my parents were right about me, that I'll look back on my life and realize that I was never good enough. I know that Allie loves me and having that person should make everything okay, but it doesn't... it doesn't stop the thoughts that invade my mind."

"I think that everyone at some point has this same fear, but... I don't think you'll ever be alone in this world," Sam told Allie with a small smile, "I've not known you all that long, but I can tell with one hundred percent confidence that Worthless has never been a word that describes you."

Dean listened carefully, nodding with Angelina’s words. “You know, our Dad was… well, he was pretty shitty.” Dean explained. “I used Sam as an anchor. As long as I do right by him, then it’s worth it. I’m guessing that’s the sort of relationship you two have.” Dean sighed. “But, I‘ve heard you’re one of the best in our line of duty. Good enough isn’t enough to describe you.” Dean offered a sweet smile. “You girls can stay here as long as you like, by the way.”

Allie listened to Sam, nodding with his words. “I - I guess,” She sighed, sitting on her hands, an old anxious trait. “I’m still trying to figure it all out, you know?”

"I should have said this before now, but... thank you," Angelina stated, feeling suddenly energized and free, "As for the staying part, that's something that Allie and I need to talk through."

"The good part about figuring it all out is that everyone is doing the same thing," Sam added, "Nobody truly knows who they are, we all have things that we want to change or know that we are fully happy with. Your connection with Angelina for example, that is something I bet you wouldn't change for the world and contributes to the person you are."

Dean nodded. “You two have a great relationship.” Standing to his feet, Dean offered Angelina another smile. “And there’s no need to thank me. This is what we do.”

Allie listened to Sam’s words, suddenly feeling the weight fall from her chest, and she sighed, looking up to the hazel eyed boy. “Thank you, Sam.”
