I had nightmares about this book when I had to read it for class. Seriously. No book has ever done that to me before, but this book was really weird. I didn't like it at all.
The whole scene with... I forgot his name... and the pig's head was really trippy and strange..

My teacher gave me this book once in school and I tried to read it... but I was falling asleep after just a couple of pages.
Normally I can read anything, but I don't know it was just something about that book that was so boring.

We're reading this in school. It's not bad, but I don't love it. It's really just strange and bizarre but I find it interesting. It's SO much better than Siddhartha, which we read last year.

I thought that this book was phenomenal! Definitely one of the most monumental novels of the 20th century.
Gosh, it was just so spectacular, I can't stand it. Simon is on my list of most favorite literary characters in all of eternity. : ]

I mean, what a moving message. Such a devastating reality was presented in such a touching, strong way. It only enhanced my respect for the human race, but it also invoked a pity in me that I didn't really know was there.
When I say that this is a life-changing book, I truly mean it.

    Ah, man.
I read that book in grade seven and it scared the hejebees out of me. I'm not exactly one for gore, and when that one kid got squished by a boulder... Yeesh.

And I get to read it again this year. Oh joyy. -sarcasm-. D:

I'll probably love it, though. It's been three years...

I haven't read the book
I've seen the movie twice at school.
I first watched it in year nine in English, and I loved it :tehe:
And then in my Teenagers and the Law class last semester, we watched it again,
and I was all like "Squeee, I love this."
And everyone else thought it was crap :grr:

My friend read it recently, because her mom recommended it to her and she hated it. It was "really depressing and scary". I really must read it. :XD

Reading the book AND watching the old movie for English GCSE at the moment,

I read about 100 hundred pages of it whilst not doing P.E this week, and unlike a lot of people in my class I actually enjoyed it.

I like the metaphors that the author uses and the feeling of being isolated from the world.

The only thing that irks me are some of the characters, I'm just not too bowled over by looking into the minds of young boys, though Jack is quite a cool character.

I read it forever ago, and we're reading it again in class this year.

It's so haunting. I mean, these little kids! Twelve year olds! I still shiver whenever I think of that chant they did the first time they killed a pig - "Kill the pig. Slit her throat. Spill her blood." Just holy shit. :cheese:

And it's definitely scary because you can feel those things in yourself. Even in my suburban neighborhood reading the scenes where the discuss the beastie makes me feel a bit of their panic and terror.

This is such a fantastic book.

I can't stand this book. I tried to read in German some time ago, but had to quit after about thirty or so pages. I didn't like the way you could see which character was the author's favourite, because I hated that person. I can't read something where I don't like the hero if you're supposed to like him. And all the others were obvious and annoying. And it was so illogical, the whole plot.

I just finished it for school. Everyone, and I mean everyone I knew at school said this book sucked. Now I understand why...the writing style might've been hard to follow. I personally loved it and the symbolism of Simon as Jesus. I didn't realize it until my teacher was explaining it (I already knew that Lord of the Flies was the Devil/evil, so I knew that symbolism), but when she brought it up I was all, "he was like Jesus!"
    Lol.
    Chad Rotter.:
Has anyone seen the movie and read the book?
I've not read the book but I loved the movie, and I wanted to know if there was many differences?
You know how they have the tendency to cut major parts out when making movies. :/
My teacher said the movie completely destroyed the book and that's why they don't show it anymore to us.
