I always download songs illegaly because of many reasons: In my country is haaaard to find some albums, I don't have money because I don't work (I'm on highschool) and my mom thinks buying albums is a "waste of money" so, she just doesn't let me buy them. Anyway, when I finally have a work of course I will buy the albums I want by myself-

I don't. I was brought up as its stealing, and stealing is wrong. Plus I pay for a music site so I can listen all I want. If I like the album enough, I'll buy the CD.

I hate CDs. They're cheap, the cases break opening them, and the discs don't last for shit. I would have no qualms buying CDs if they were made the way they were 20 years ago.

I've illegally downloaded most of the 1750 songs on my phone, and I don't regret it. I don't have the money to keep buying things on iTunes or Amazon, and my parents used to limit me to how many songs I could buy anyways. If I can't find it through downloading it, then I'll buy it. Or if I'm too impatient and want it right now. XD

When I was in high school you couldn't download songs really. I mean, Napster was brand fucking new but we just didn't do it in my town. You bought the full CD or you could just tape it off the radio for free. Like downloading.

I download a lot of my music illegally. My website I use is very virus free and the music comes out fairly HQ. I like it better that way, though, because if I didn't know about illegal downloads I wouldn't have half the music in my iTunes library.

That said, I do buy music when I actually have money for it either through iTunes or a local music store.

If it weren't for illegal downloading, I wouldn't have half the musical knowledge for my course that I do now. If you're looking for recordings of works by really obscure composers then without illegal downloading it's pretty fucking hard.

I can't buy music because I don't have any way to pay for it, plus I listen to bands that don't have anything available in the States (in stores or on iTunes). I have to illegally download in order to get the music, but when I can, I try to buy an album/single through Amazon, never iTunes because iTunes sucks for the music I like. I use a few (German) sites in order to find the stuff.

Once in a while maybe you will feel the urge
    To break international copyright law
By downloading MP3s from file-sharing sites
Like Morpheus or Grokster or Limewire or KaZaA

But deep in your heart you know the guilt would drive you mad
And the shame would leave a permanent scar
'Cause you start out stealing songs and then you're robbing liquor stores
And sellin' crack and runnin' over school kids with your car

    So don't download this song
The record store's where you belong
Go and buy the CD like you know that you should
    Oh, don't download this song

    Sorry, I had to lmfao

I download illegally because I can't afford to buy music. I'm also incredibly into music, so I listen to basically everything; a lot of the groups I enjoy I cannot find their albums anywhere except for maybe their social networking sites, websites, youtube, ect.
Also, I don't believe I'm harming the career of an artist by 'illegally downloading' because nobody makes money off of CDs or MP3s; they make their money off touring. iTunes will sell a song for 99 cents, but you have to remember the artist is only getting 3 cents out of that. If anything I'm supporting the artist by not buying their songs from a company that's technically stealing from the artists in their own right.
    karma's a bitch.

The artist only gets a small amount of ticket sales from their gigs as well, especially considering how much they pay for equipment and whatnot.

    @ Alex; periphery.
In some cases the record companies may pay for it. I know the companies pay for tour buses and as far as the first record a group makes, they loan money to the artists for that. They also get sponsorships from people; like Vans, Monster Energy, Skullcandy. Trojan condoms sponsors Warped Tour. (true story)
Regardless, musicians do make a decent living if they are well known enough. People like Metallica, Lady Gaga, ect., I don't feel bad about illegally downloading their music because they're already financially established, and living more than comfortable lives. For a band that I like that's just starting out, or the local groups in my area, I'll gladly splurge for a CD and a T-shirt because they're still trying to make ends meet doing what they love.
Also, I've wanted to be a musician my whole life, and I am one, I just don't put my music out yet, lol. I wouldn't feel horrible at all if people illegally downloaded my music, because I'd want people to enjoy it regardless of whether or not they could afford it. I just don't feel like there's anything wrong with it.

Oh my God; I remember being 12 and recording ALL the songs off the radio and having hundreds of cassette tapes laying around. This is 2009 where you're an instant loser if you don't have an iPod. Needless to say I had no friends. lmfao
