Who is your favorite literary character, and why?

Mine is Lucien from Neil Gaiman's Sandman graphic novels.
He is the Librarian in The Dreaming, and he has every single book ever written, dreamed, or imagined by every single person in the world, and he remembers every single one of them. He is somewhat foolish, occasionally showing Dreamers around the palace or misplacing books, but he is one of the few people Morpheus trusts, and he makes me giggle. :cute:

Holden Caulfield (The Catcher in the Rye). :cute:
Like...I don't know what it is about him, but he's so...realistic. He doesn't seem like a perfect example of what a good character is, he jumps all over, and he'll go off on these tangents, and that's what a real person is. I don't know anyone that can coherently explain their thoughts without going through some sort of loop, but Holden goes off on these tangents and makes these amazing quotations, like when he's talking about girls or his sister or anything. He's just amazing.

Lestat de Lioncourt from Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles.
I like his cockiness, and how he breaks the stereotypical vampire image and attitude (even though most her characters do). His personality I fell in love with in the first book even though he was a bit of a meany. I love his ramblings, and how he takes a lot of pride in himeself, even if he's being vain. I love his boldness, enthusiasm and love of fashion. xD

I agree with you. Holden just seems so real and honestly my friends and I (the ones that read the book anyway) could relate to him better than any other character in a book we've read. When I was reading the book I felt as though he was sitting beside me telling the story because he was written so much like a real person.

Anabelle Green - Just Listen - Sarah Dessen.

It's not a classic, nor a huge well known when - lest, I don't think - But I'm in love with her writing, for one. Secondly, the whole story is based of of music, which grabs my attention anyways, and thirdly, Anabelle is such a believable character. It's nearly a stereotypical storyline, really. Girl is sexually assaulted, keeps it a secret, has trouble dealing with it, and Superman comes along.
But Sarah pulls it off - as with every story. And Anabelle reminds me of myself, in many ways. So down to Earth, faithless in everything/everyone. And she puts up with everything. She's got so much going on in her family, and in her mind, and she still gets through it, which I admire...

    I have a few.

The first is, of course, Alice from Alice in Wonderland. I prefer the Disney character, but I do love the books. They scared me a bit when I was younger though.

Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz. I prefer the books to the movie.

Mab from I Was a Teenage Fairy by Francesca Lia Block. Barbie from the same book.

Artemis Fowl from the Artemis Fowl series. I just really like him. He's amaziongly intelligent and at first he was apathetic and cruel, but throughout the series his character also developed. And, he's flawed in a way that his mind is perfect, but his body is not. And his sarcastic wit... :XD

Ellie Linton, from 'Tomorrow When The War Began', by John Marsden.

She goes through shit, and she overcomes it. She's down to earth, but has her moments. She's brave, but loving. She has no idea what she wants to do with her life, but she wants to get through each day. She's a country girl. She's a writer.

Crowley from Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman's Good Omens.
I've come to the conclusion that that is my Favorite Book Ever. Which is huge, considering that I've never ever had a favorite book before, since I liked too many too much.

I have a ton, but for now I will just subject you to two.

Samantha Madison (All American Girl, Ready Or Not)- I love the way Meg Cabot seems to have a character for everyone of her readers that you can relate too. I can relate to Sam. And unlike Susannah Simon in The Mediator Series, she doesn't change her at all that much. She is alike me in a lot of ways and she is just awesome.

Edward Cullen (Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn)- Cause he is just... ugh. Amazing. I love his mysteriousness in Twilight. He just as air about him. You can just tell he is older and wiser. I don't look at him as sexy like the other fans might, I just love his attitude.

Crowley's sig has reminded me of another one of my favorite characters; the Death of Rats from Terry Pratchett's Discworld books.
The teeny little CAPS just make me giggle. In Love

Gah, and the Nac Mac Feegle from the Tiffany Aching Adventures by Terry Pratchett. They're teeny little Irishmen and they're not afraid of anything except for books and wives. I try to explain to some of my friends why they're so cute but no one gets it. Sad

It sounds generic, but Hermione from the Harry Potter series [by JK Rowling, of course].
I want to be like her so much. I love how she's so courageous, smart, and can solve anything.

I love the main character from Amelie Nothomb's books. She's usually called just Amelie or is nameless. She's so amazing. She manages to be funny, naive, stupid and incredibly smart at the same time.
Especially in Metaphysics of Tube she's adorable. She's still only 3 but because she had a mild form of Autism is incredibly smart and introverted. And she thinks she's Jesus and can walk on watter and does wonders.

Second would be Amrita from Maitrey Devi's It doe not die. She's just so beautiful and peaceful. She keeps faith even if she and Mircea break up and knows that their love will last forever.

1)Roger from Lord of the Flies by William Golding - evil in its purest form. Naughty

2)Victor Ward/Johnston from Brett Easton Ellis' Glamorama - hilariously stupid male-model-turned-international-terrorist.
3)Paul Denton from his novel Rules Of Attraction, too - the "quintessential faggot". Nyam

I can't help but to love Perry Miller from L.M. Montgomery's Emily of New Moon series. <3 I'm so old-fashioned. =]
But he's just so cute and brimming with dry, witty humor. And despite his knack for violence, he is so heart-breakingly innocent. Aw, I just love him to death!!!

I agree with this, execpt, I was so mad at her for leaving Owen, she made me want to slap her. I never get so emotional with a book or a character. She made me think of my friends and I thought of her as one.

    Tyler Durden from Fight Club.
The whole concept of him is mind-blowing, really. He's also a genius. Strange as it sounds, he opened up my eyes to many, many things.
