    It's seriously a religion?
    That's kind of odd.
But whatever you believe in, go for it.

I also really love the African vampire myths - they're much more like animals and monsters, much less polluted by sex. People should look them up. They're interesting.
I agree. Nowadays, you can't go through one vampire movie without sex.
Example: Underworld 1,2 and 3 and True blood.

I bought a book about vampires lately (don't get me wrong, I'm not the type of person that worship vampires or something, I'm just interested in their background and all) and I realized how the "olden" vampires with their hair - raising features and monstrosity behaviour had evolved into perfect, good looking "modern" hot vampires. Disgust

It's okay - you can buy books without defending your religious stance :D

I own a few books on vampires too - vampires in mythology that is, not "real" vampires (though there's one or two which contain a chapter or so about modern-day covens).

When I write, I tend to combine the old myths with Rice's imagined vampires. It's understandable in fiction - you need a character who is at least vaguely sympathetic, you need the reader to be able to feel some kind of connection, and you need to have a more or less "normal" range of emotions, because it's not like any of us are actually bloodthirsty demons stalking pretty girls.

Maybe it's time the vampire went back to being the creepy bad guy though?

As to Vampirism as a religion... I honestly think that if no one is getting hurt they have the right to behave/worship/whatever in any way they like. Barring nudity around small children and sex with animals etc.

It could be the first "religion" with a mandatory first aid course!

Well basically, yes. But they perform vampire acts.

We're talking about the people who are humans who practice a form of religion based on vampire myths.
Not the fictional ones with the fangs and burning in sunlight and the depraved murders and the sleeping in coffins...

No they don't. Unless they're an incubus or succubus.

I love the modern image of the vampire.

It may be really far off from the classic myth but it's fiction. It isn't supposed to stick to myth.
