I think that bands can save a life but not personally but by causing the person to save them self. Therefore its half the band and half the person.

    Dude, hell yeah.
I don't think it's the band as such but the MUSIC. THe music is what makes all the difference, but it takes a very special band to pull that off.

Unless a band physically takes the gun away from your temple, NO.

I mean c'mon. Music is awesome. Music is fabulous. But if life is really that bad it'll never be enough for someone to keep on living. This is just what people say because, for some reason, depression has the dimensions of a trend - which is truly offensive to people who do have problems.

Not physicaly, but mentally for sure. They can totally change your outlook on something. Always for the better though, I do not think that bands can kill you; that is bull shit there is no way they can make you kill yourself maybe help you save youself but never help convince you to kill yourself. Depression and suicide is way more complicated than that.
It's like listening to Gloomy Sunday and saying, "My life doesn't matter anymore, I should probably die..."
But I totally believe that you can listen to a song like The Black Parade and saying, "You know what? I think that what I wanted to do was stupid and I should probably talk to someone about it."

I know it's not that simple but music can totally influence good thoughts on good things.

I do believe music or art can make you kill yourself, just as much as it can save you.
I wanted to kill myself after I read some not-so-optimistic philosophy works and too much -sad- romantic-era poetry. Of course I was depressed before, but telling me that life wasn't worth it -and giving me solid arguments in favor of it- certainly pushed me over the edge a bit -lot- more.
I don't listen to music that tells me to kill myself because I'd probably end up doing it, you can shut a book but it's harder to get a song out of your head.

I totally agree with that. There are many songs I don't allow myself to listen to because they impact me way too much. I try to keep it positive.

I don't think they can save your life in the strictest sense, but I think they can give you a little fight... and willpower.

    It can.
If you want to live for them and their music, they won't fail you.
Unless they are a suicidal band who encourage it...then maybe not.
But bands with meaningful lyrics, and great members, can.
    I do believe that.

I think bands can help people to get to the point where they don't need saving.
    They give people hope etc.
thats what I'm telling myself at the moment. Bands won't save me, but they are there to turn to if things get really bad

I believe that it's all up to what people think.

For myself, I do believe that music can save you. It's a cliché thing to say, 'Yea, My Chemical Romance saved my life.' I know a lot of people just roll their eyes whenever that phrase is muttered.
I've never been one to judge, and I always tell people, 'You don't know what people go through. You'd be surprised of what influences others.' More and more I think people don't want to listen to things that don't affect them personally in the long run. Such as, if they don't believe it can happen, it can't, and other people can just work around it.

In short, yea, I really do believe music can save your live, in more ways than one. It gives people confidence in trying to stop, in getting help. It ties people together, it lets people know that they aren't alone. And it's just relaxing and calming, if you've had a bad day, toss in a CD, and turn on your iPod, and you're better in no time.

    xo.

I think they can't really save you but I think they can help.
-They helped put the idea of stopping whatever you were doing in your head.
-They helped give you courage through music.
-They shared their hard time and experiances to make you feel less alone.
They help a lot but actually saving your life I don't think so, but that's just me.

Of course. If music can change people, thne they can save them.

For example; up until a while ago I had no life and was just another loser child. When music came into my life, it opened up a whole new portal of opportunities in my life. Music showed me what I have and what I love, but I can't really explain how. If you love music enough, and truly are a musician an heart, you can understand how music can change people. They change people every day... anyone who listens to music is constantly changing with it.

    Music can save lives.
I can't explain how, but there's a certain feeling about it... it's so damn hard to explain, ughh.

I mean physically music can't really save lives but mentally I believe so. I mean we all absorb and learn and are influence from the words or things people around us do and say so music itself is a way of influencing people's way of thinking sometimes. It may not be the case for everyone but I do believe music can save lives by influencing the way you think and see things. I don't know, that's just my thoughts.

I think emotionally they can. A few bands brought me out of my depression, and made me realize that I can make it through.

I don't necessarily think that bands could save people's lives, but I suppose that music can offer some kick-butt encouragement.

I've never actually been medically depressed, but I do know what it feels like to be down.
I can just click on some "Three Cheers for Five Years" and I feel better. Or... more like relieved.
Kind of like how the blues sprung up during the Great Depression. People need a shoulder to lean on, and one that has borne your same weight before.
It gives us a common connection, and as humans, I think that we rely on understanding companionship to keep us up.

That's what some music provides, so it can be a bit like a medicine.
Although it's only the person who can truly decide when to cure themselves.

    No.

The music I was listening to at my worst was very sad, personal music to me and it just deepened my mood.

And, no. Doctor Who did not save my life. I wanted him to but he's fictional. I saved my life because there was a point I was just fed up of death and wanted to give living a go.

I think music can help you cope with your problems, but it can't actually save lives.
