They obviously cannot save lives in the literal sense of the word, but they do have an immense influence on teenagers, far greater than the one of their parents and teachers, that's for sure. By becoming fans of certain bands, some kids manage to give themselves a sense of purpose and within the lyrics they find some place of comfort, the familiarity they might lack in their real lives. They feel obliged to listen to them and to find meaning in their music and that's okay, because that is one of the reasons music is here for.

Bands motivate and help, but can they really make someone not to pop those pills or pull that trigger or jump of that bridge? No, they can't.

I think it's different for everyone. Music can not literally save your life, but it can inspire you to keep on living. I guess it just depends.

I know for a fact that bands can save lives
I'm one of the people who has been saved by a bands music.
Avenged Sevenfold's Seize The Day, it saved my life.
So I believe it can, because if it wasn't for that song I wouldn't be writing this right now

I think a band can save a life only if that person chooses their music to be his/her salvation.

Not directly, but they can have influences in your lives. lasy year, I popped pills and cut, and was really contemplating suicide seriously. I even attempted it once. But then I started listening to My Chem, and I really got into it. I met my best friend at school, when we started talking about TBP at lunch. I stopped cutting and I went into drug counseling. I don't know if it really counts, but I really think if it wasn't for MY Chem, I'd be dead by now. Not only did I meet the one person who loved and accepted me, but I also took thier anti-suicide message to heart. In a way, they did save my life.

I read in a teen magazine how this one girl found a grenade outside her school and knew what it was because of the Green Day cd.

I don't know if this is the kind of bands saving lives thing you're talking about but I thought I'd just say this. :P

    Question: does therapy save lives?
In the sense of going to a psychologist, talking and working things out that way, no pills or anything.

You can't save someone who doesn't want to save themselves. That person has to want to be saved in order for anything to happen. So in another words, only YOU can help yourselves.

So no, I don't really think bands can save you. They might show you the light in all the darkness, but they can't save you.

I think that they can help! But obviously they can't physically do it.

But music is my life, when I don't have it I want to die =]

I believe bands can save lives.
If the listener feels that their life is in need of saving, and a band gives them the power to save themself, then yes, bands can save lives.

    ^ I don't think I explained that right :shifty

If the band is the one thing you believe in more than anything else, the only thing that you feel like you can always depend on, then yes. They can save your life.

Some of you are saying that they don't save your life but they influence you to do it etc. Isn't that the same? If you didn't get that inspiration or influence to save your life by a band you wouldn't of got it. So by saving your life because of drawing inspiration from a band is the same as a band saving your life.

I believe a band can not save you physically.
But I think that they can save you emotionally, they can help you deal with things and cool you down from rash decisions.
And sometimes those rash decisions are the worst ones.

I know a band has saved my life.
And it is hard to explain how they saved it.
I think it's just one of those things that unless you've actually been through it, you don't really get.
It sounds stupid to some people that a bunch of notes and words can save you.
But it does, I think there's just something in the music that clicks in your head, and it's a personal thing.

Music changes peoples lives, people get jobs from it, use it as therapy.
Why can't it be used to save lives also?

You're right, they can't take away the addictions we have.
But it'll let us know there's someone that knows how we feel out there.
MCR and Alesana, I owe everything to.
I don't listen to them or obsess about them like I used to, but I'll always be in debt to them.
More MCR than Alesana saved me.
Alesana gave me a relief, MCR made me realize things.

    That probably makes no sense.

yeah they don't physically take the razor or anything away from you, but w/o there inspiration, you couldnt save urself, you in a way they do save you... idk but thats how i see things...

like my favorite band, when i saw them in concert they inspired me not to drink so much and smoke and cut myself and to get my act together... w/o them i would still be way out of it...

    Well.

I honestly hope you can compare these two together, though a band and single friend are different. I have a hero named Moogie. She's twenty years old and lives in some other state. I talk to her on a constant basis. She makes me happy. She makes me feel like I have something worth living for, one of those things or persons that are so important and beautiful that you can't leave them behind, in any cause. Whenever I held self doubt, I'd talk to her and start to feel better. Because talking to her was something I enjoy. Same difference. Music. Some kid listening to their favorite band easily could become inspired enough to feel as if they have an outlet, as if they have something to fight for and keep. Because it's like me talking to Moogie. It grants them happiness.
However, the difference is I met Moogie through Mibba because she role played a story that was listed on INO and lead to Mibba. I read the murder story and fell in love. Soon, I decided to comment and make an account. I stayed. Found the friends I'm oh so very close to today, even though it's only her and Shotgun left, both whom I met online. She sent/introduced me to amazing bands. She talks to me. She introduced me to books, death Note, and so on. My life is based on her. There isn't a day that I do something not involving her or her influence. Perhaps a band led a person in this direction, helping said person form their lives.

As long as it works out.
