I like about 5-10% of music out today, most of that being from the bands that I love, that actually have something DIFFERENT and (usually) meaningful to them. Other than that, most of the music I have is a couple years older...

The type of music fiercely popular today that I (for the most part) detest, is rap. To me, it all sounds the same and the subject matter is less than appealing. Although, there are few exceptions to this...I have actually heard some that I actually like, but today, that's pretty rare.

...I also like some of the older rap, from a decade or so ago, but the board was referring to music today.

For me, that could be applied to any music genre. To me personally, a lot of the pop-rock stuff sounds all the same to me and is completely boring and has no meaning.

Every genre has that problem, the way I see it.

Well apart from obv. Miss. Emilie Autumn and the lovley Angelspit most of my favorite type of music is indie pop, and i'm not talking about the Arctic Monkey's. I love Black Kids, Ladyhawke, Belle and Sebastian, The Cure, Chairlift. That kinda stuff, and i'm also pretty obsesed with Alice Cooper atm since I saw a show of his in London this July, he is a legend!

I barely listen to the radio or keep up with new songs or artists coming out
If something is good or worth listening to, it'll come to my attention soon enough
There's like, a lack of variety or originality, so I just stick to the good old songs :| Not that I want to limit myself like that, but it's getting harder and harder to be unique as time passes by

^ Classic rock is the greatest.

I feel that bands like Led Zeppelin and The Rolling Stones helped create rock and even pop today. Without those musicians and bands that were famous when our parents were alive, we wouldn't have any good music.

Even music in the 50's changed our music scene.

However, I hate hip-hop, yet have found a few songs of the genre that I like. I despise pop but have heard songs that I enjoy. There will always be those exceptions, just like with the genre's rock and metal - I've heard some songs that I have hated! There will always be those who do it better and those who do it terribly.

I prefer keeping an open mind about music though.

My philosophy is if it sounds good, listen to it.
At the moment I'm really getting into Indie and Electro [bands like We Smoke Fags and Spider and the Flies]. There's a lot of not so well known stuff that is really great.

I've been really into a lot of the indie music that has been coming out lately, preferably English Indie.

I've started getting into Classic rock, because when I don't feel like listening to MCR in my car for the 28725874 time, I put on KRock (our local rock station) and all they play is classic rock. But honestly, I can't really see myself listening to it on a regular basis. It sounds the same to me.

Anything that can get caught in my head, or has powerful lyrics beyond belief, I'll listen to.
It vaires, but almost everything has to go back to the elements that make it stick out in my head.

I listen to a lot of music- Hip Hop, R&B, Pop, Rock and Roll, that stuff.
Most people don't pay attention to the country songs, which most of them are actually better than some artists today.

While I don't completely ignore these genres, I don't really like screamo and country as a whole. There are certain bands/artists of both genres I listen to and love, like Johnny Cash (country).

Other than that, I regularly listen to everything...
Baroque, Big Band, Classical, Romantic, Rock (everything in it, but mostly garage/indie/classic/punk), R&B, Musical Theatre, Hip Hop, Rap (Jay-Z is great, Nas is fantastic, and TI is pretty good, too), Pop, Ska, Jazz and many, many more (I've listened to a full CD of Gregorian Chant more than once, I find it very interesting). I think every genre has something to say, some history, and all are equally important to the diversity of music we have today. It's all an opinion of taste, I suppose.

I look at music as a universal language, because that's definitely something we all have in common. I find all music very, very interesting. Some of my favorite composers are Chopin, Mozart, and Tchaikovsky, some of my favorite bands are The Libertines, The Clash, The Kinks, Neutral Milk Hotel, KISS, Fall Out Boy, No Doubt, Reel Big Fish, and Placebo, and some of my favorite artists are Amy Winehouse, Billie Holiday, Drake Bell, Pete Doherty, Prince, Gwen Stefani, Ray Charles, Jay-Z, Nas, Rihanna...

I love music very much and the history intrigues me so very much.
