Ha, well simple actually. Jack The Ripper. Because his lost mind made people reflect on what they could lose, other than terrify them. That's my opinion anyway. Image

William Shakespeare. I think he's fascinating, and an incredible writer, and it's a pity we know so little about the man himself. His works are amazing.

    Cleithenes from ancient Greece.
Simply because he founded and expanded democracy.
Imagine our governmental system today without it?

Even though our governmental structure differed from ancient Greece's, it still greatly influenced most of ours.

I'm starting to become quite interested in Oscar Wilde, thanks to Mr. Stephen Fry. He is really interesting as a person though. His whole circle of friends and lovers, his trials, time in jail, even his young death. It just amazes me all.

It amazes me when a writer or freethinker can live outside the box, so I'll have to say Yukio Mishima, John Keats or Bill Hicks.

As far as historical figures go, I love Leon Trotsky and Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna. Such interesting guys...

    Heart-Shaped Box.:
Michelangelo; painted the Sistine Chapel ceiling and had the strength to spend four whole straight years of his life on it, standing in the most uncomfortable position just to get it done, when he could have easily laid down on his back to paint it.
Michelangelo's my favorite as well, though I much prefer his sculptures to his paintings. Irving Stone wrote a biography about his life titled 'The Agony and the Ecstacy', and I grabbed it off the shelf of my highschool library in my Junior year, thinking it was smut-related because of the title.

I discovered quickly that I had been mistaken, but had already gotten so enthralled with it by the time I figured it out, that I couldn't put it down and I'll always be grateful to my gutter-mind for making me pick up that amazing book about such a fascinating man.

Lady Georgiana Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire
because, she managed to challenge her husband by way of sexual affair; he has sex with her best friend, she does it with one of his good friends. She manages to save face and continue to put on a facade of faithfulness for the public even though she loved the other man. She manages to create a debt so big that even when she comes clean she still has the pride to hide some debt. She successfully encourages and pushes an election and creates fashions, throws the most outrages parties while still being a good mother to three children and a friend to some of the greatest names in history :)

simply because she was extremely brave. Plus I've been fascinated with her since like 7th grade. Not sure if she was crazy or trully hearing Angels voices but whatever.

Thomas Jefferson. He was my favorite president.
Michelangelo. He painted the Sistine Chapel and did a wonderful job.
There's a few more, but those are the main ones.

I don't know if she counts, but Rosie the Riveter from WWII. She's so cool.

    Other than that, Abraham Lincoln.

Van Gogh, because I feel like I can relate to him. I'd love to be able to aspire to his standard of work, but I just know I'm not that good.

Frederick II of Prussia. An amazing leader in time, his past is one of my favorites. Also, the fact that Napoleon Bonaparte thought that Frederick was the greatest tactical genius of all time. And Frederick was friends with Voltaire, also one of my favorites.

Malcolm X. Because he stood for black people and tried to rid of niggas. I wish he's still alive to rid of nigga ways now.

Nat Turner. He has a rebellious side similar to mine.

Harriet Tubman. She never got caught and that phrase "If you think about turning back, I got the shot gun on your back" is the realest.

Queen Victoria. She just embodied the era: graceful and conservative on the outside, but passionate, sexual and stubborn at the same time.

My favorite people in history are heavily influenced by the things I'm currently interested in, so right now I would pick Plato and Socrates. I love how pretty much everything can be traced back to Plato's principles. Since Socrates was his teacher, he had his part in it as well, plus he seems like such an awesome guy. I like to think of him as the original hipster. tehe

Other people I'm fascinated by are Akhenaten, because he was so fucked up, yet amazingly influential, and Évariste Galois, because he lived a pretty eventful life for a mathematician.

Elizabeth Bathory is by far my most favorite historical figure. She's just so interesting I can't help it! She was an insane torturer and murderer (though I do think that the bathing in blood is a myth) yet she was also supposed to have been a very loving mother. I love serial killers, plain and simple, and she's the ultimate serial killer to me. Killing over 600 people (at least) is a pretty big accomplishment. I'm also pretty feministic so just the fact she's a woman and she did all of this is awesome. I'll shut up now before I start rambling too much and can't shut myself up...haha...

I'm not really sure why, he fascinates me!
He wrote Utopia, which is a really good book... even if you don't agree with it.
His relationship with Henry VIII is interesting too.

She served on the Titanic when it sunk and survived, She also survived HMS Britannic and their other sister ship HMS Hawke :)

She is what I'd call the definition of stubbornness and luck :)
