People seem to have this idea that the Irish live in thatched cottages and have hens in their garden, grow their own potatoes and wear iron jumpers. :lmfao

Some of my form teachers American friends thought that we all did, they were wondering were all the chickens were.

I told some kids in America that half our population wear only flax skirts and live in mud huts, and they believed me.

I also told them that the other half live on the beach, and we go swimming, sailing and play rugby every day. :lmfao

Well I'm Canadian and most people think we:
    Live in Igloos
    Say "Eh" (check)
    Polar Bears ran around everywhere
    Play Hockey (check)
It's cold and snows all the time (sort of, but where I'm at it just rains)
Drink Maple Syrup (only on pancakes, check)
-And then a bunch of other random stupid things making us out to be hillbillies and hicks :(

Also I'm Italian, so the whole pasta loving (check) and mafia (NOT check) gets asked.

    Scotland.
    Tartin kilts, ginger hair.
    Agressive.

Oh, we also play the bag pipes a lot, and the thistle is our national icon.

Edit: Willie from the Simpson's is a good example.
Haha that and we all eat haggis and are called Jock :file:

I'm from Australia. People think Australians are laid back and casual about everything - and I guess a lot of us are. -shrug-
I've never understood how people can stereotype a whole country on a personality trait :shifty

And a lot of my relatives from Europe think that Australians are all blonde and tanned and live near the beach. Like ON the beach almost. I'm blonde and I tan easily, but it's not because I'm Australian haha. I get that from my dad, and he's from New Zealand.

Well, I definitely don't fit the ethnic stereotype here then. Last time I heard we were all kind of Bogan like with our kangaroos and all. They don't really cater for the rather multicultural country we are do they? :file:

Ah yes, bogans. There are heaps of bogans in Adelaide, so I guess that it's one stereotype that rings true at least in my city

And we are quite multicultural now (compared to what we were in the past). Greek and Italian communities are very prominent in Adelaide, as well as Asian communities - but I can't speak for all parts of Australia.

And it's ironic that Australians are seen as tanned and blonde, when the first Australians were really the Australian Aboriginals. They're far from blonde. :shifty

I agree, and I guess i don't fit that sterotype, I'm pale and a brunette...but then i do fit the whole busty skiny sheila one... :| *sighs*
Multicultural must mean nothing to those who stereo us.

Well, personally - I also stereotype other countries on physical appearance even if they are multicultural. For example, I see English people as being really pale and white with darker hair. But I know that England is quite multicultural. And I've been to England, so I don't know why I still have that stereotype :shifty

So I don't get annoyed when I hear of people stereotyping Australians, because I do it too

I personally think it's dumb to assume a whole coutry would behave exactly the same. I know ignorence is bliss but thats just stupidity, you know?

I'm more than 75% German and when I tell people that they are all like " Oh, so that's why your so pale..."

Also they think that I'm a Jewish hater. Which is not true. That makes me mad that people just assume that. :grr:

I'm also Swedish and once I had someone ask me if I owned a kilt. I was just like " I think thats Scottish..." and then I ran. It was :lmfao

I have a little bit of Indian in me and people ask me why I don't tan. Hence the German. We are pale.

^ When I tell people that my mom's from Fiji, most of them act like they know where that is when they don't. :|
When I tell them it's a place just like Hawaii and stuff, they assume I surf, hula dance and speak Spanish. :file:
Then when I tell people that my parents are from two different countries, they assume I'm a whore....? :|

-I'm American, therefore I am fat, ugly, stupid, and have no culture.
-I'm Russian, therefore I'm a communist. (I also get a lot of "IN SOVIET RUSSIA, BLANK BLANKS YOU!!!!!!!!!" And whilst I love those jokes, jfc it's annoying.)
    -I'm German. So I'm a Nazi.
-I'm also Jewish. So, being German and Jewish at the same time, I get told to kill myself a lot. x.x
-And I'm french. So I'm supposed to be all "SACRE BLEU!" or whatever.

I have French in me. And what's bad is when I think of French people I think of gay French designers. I have no idea why. French guys just come off as gay to me. Not that there is anything wrong with being gay in my opinion. And I've actually never met a French man, so I really have no idea.

:file: I'm Polish, so the running joke lately is that I'm a "Polack" and therefore stupid. My klutziness and stuff gets blamed on that.

And I'm Russian. So I have anger problems. Which is true but not because of that.

And my family is Jewish. I myself am athiest but people don't care. I get told to get burned a lot.

One day I'm gonna take an AK47, and just have at 'em all. :mrgun:
