I'm no good with music a lot, but still: My review:
Overall, it was nothing insanely special, but if you love Simple Plan, BUY THIS CD. If you've been a fan since the "no pads" era, it's different. But the boys have grown older and a bit more mature. And they're doing what they do best: Writing and playing music. The musical arrangements are good, but then again, I don't know a whole lot about music. Let's move on and I shall analyze the songs now:
"When I'm Gone" I think it's one of the "Fuck you" songs. I mean, if you listen to the lyrics, it's one of those "you had your chance with me, but blew it, and now look: I'm famous" Just like the music video implies. It's also a good sing-along song.
"Take My Hand" Nice fast paced music, good rock out song. To me it sounds like one of those "live in today" songs. One of those don't dwell on the future songs. Not sure what it's about, but to me it seems like it would be a couple out on their last date before they decide to break up or something. But then again: I suck at figuring out what songs mean.
"The End" Musically different than what SP fans are used to. With the lyrics, it seems like a breakup song, but one doesn't want to get over the other. The music though is quite technoesque during the verses before busting out into some good rocking riffs for the chouruses. The verse vocals are different too.
"Your Love Is A Lie" One thing that bugs me: Why they bleeped "Fuck" And do you think abotu me when he fxxks you Okay if you know SP like I do, you know they're not afraid to swear, so why bleep it?? And also, that line is similar to a song called "You Oughtta Know" by Alanis Morisette (And are you thinking of me, when you fuck her?) I'm not accusing of stealing though. It's not quite a breakup song, but I think it was mildly inspired by "You Oughtta Know" Same theme I believe, but still, a good song.
"Save You" This will be one of those songs that'll make people tear up. This song-once known-will have strong emotional impact. To me: if you have a best friend who is going through hell in life, and wanting to kill themselves, this is like one of those where you will just make them listen to this, and show them that you care. One of the slower songs on the album, but very emotional.
"Generation" Another sing-along type song. Perhaps a song about the teen generation, and how they don't give a fuck about the world and what happens.
"Time To Say Goodbye" To me, another emotional song. Say you've got a friend, or boyfriend/girlfriend that you don't want in your life anymore. Like they're going downhill in life and trying to drag you down, but you don't want to go with them. Also seems to be about that downhill friend being a backstabber, and after you do stuff for them, they don't do anything in return. Another "Fuck you" song? Maybe.
"I can wait Forever" With the lyrics, it's one of those "I love you, but I can't say it" things between two friends. Two good friends that want more than friendship. And when one is not around, it's hell for the other.
"Holding On" Another song like "save you" I'd give it that explanation. And also a song like where someone doesn't want to be in this life anymore. OH! basically like the reverse of "Save You" from the other point of view. If you get what I mean.
"No Love" Hmm, perhaps one of those guy is with girl songs, but guy shows no love towards girl. She can't say anything to him, but perhaps he's cheating too. She wants to just leave him, but can't, until the end of the song.
"What If" Just one of those songs with the questions of the youth generation. Think of the song "one" from the previous SP album. Not the same meaning, but it's arranged like it.
Okay so I suck at really analyzing music, but those are my views of the album and the songs. Overall: nothing super duper special, but I love it.
