Back to Life: A Mibba Revival

For many of us, when we think of Mibba, we think of the thriving writing community Mibba once was. We think of the near constant outpouring of new stories and story updates. We think of a time when WAYT and Confessions would burn through their respective threads in just a couple of days. We think of journals filled with friends chatting, silly anecdotes about our day to day lives, and an abundance of friendly and much needed advice. We remember a Mibba pumped and brimming with life.

Sadly, this is not what we see today. Lately, Mibba has been like a ghost town; stagnant, decaying, and nearly devoid of life. From the lack of updates on the “new” Mibba to the lack of technical upkeep on the site, and right down to the lack of activity from not only Mibba's members but Mibba's supporting staff as well. The site has reached an undeniable decline, and many Mibbians (old and new) have seemingly given up- but not all. There are still a handful of Mibbians who refuse to watch the site wither away. These Mibbians, the members of the Mibba Revolution, are determined to bring the site back to the life.

What is the Mibba Revolution?

The Mibba Revolution, created by Mibbian hidden lullaby, is an ongoing project dedicated to the revival of Mibba. This “Revolution” focuses heavily on bringing the focus of Mibba back to the writing and that great community feeling that Mibba was once known for. Participants are strongly dedicated to making Mibba a friendly, ridicule-free, writing environment that all members (of all ages) can enjoy without fear of being bullied or ostracized. They strive to create a place where everyone has the opportunity to receive feedback and help on their work, whether they are a seasoned Mibbian or a newbie; whether they're one of Mibba's most popular writers or someone working on their first story.

How does it work?

There are several different projects going on within the Mibba Revolution, all of which require Mibbian participation. Each project is meant to stimulate a different part of the site, hopefully engaging all Mibbians, no matter their personal interest or reason for being on the site.

Prompts Prompts Prompts

First and foremost, Mibba is a writing site. Whether you're writing journals, poems, stories, or articles, the Mibba Revolutions hopes to get Mibba's writers writing again. To help with this, the Mibba Revolution will be employing a Mibba Daily Writing Prompts thread, which will be stickied in the Writing Contest forum. In this thread, Mibbians will be able to view daily journal, poem, story, and article prompts. Mibbians who choose to write pieces based on those prompts can post links to their work in the thread, and if you'd like to submit prompts to be used, you can do so in the general Writing Prompts thread in the Writing Contest forum.

Monthly Commenting Contest + Comment Swaps

Starting in August, the Comment Monsters Commenting Contest will be a monthly contest in which members are rewarded for frequently commenting on stories, poems, and other pieces of work on Mibba. At the start of each month, a new contest cycle will began and as an “entrance fee” each participant will need to comment on at least one story or poem or article of the prior month's winner(s). In addition to receiving comments from the following month's participants, winners will be featured in the Mibba Magazine's next Comment Monsters article, where they'll be able to recommend some of the favorite pieces they read during the past month, as well as some of their own work.

In addition to the Comment Monsters Commenting Contest (and the Comment Monstes thread for non-participants), members are also being asked to participate in the many commenting threads* that already exist on Mibba. If everyone managed to participate in at least one commenting thread a week, we'd be able to really get things going again.

Helping New Users

I was on Mibba for over a year before I ventured over to the forums and once there, it was several more months before I stumbled upon the Introduce Yourself forum, a place where new Mibbians can say hello to Mibba and possibly meet new people. I think this may also be true for a lot of other Mibbians. Generally, there isn't a lot of information being handed to new Mibbians as they sign up, so one of the things the Mibba Revolution strives to do is help get new members acquainted with the site and its users. We can do this by commenting on the threads posted in the Introduce Yourself forum, as well as by greeting newer members and helping them navigate the site. A simple, “Hello! Welcome to Mibba. Let me know if you need any help,” message can often go a long way. Including important links (like links to the Introduce Yourself forum, the Help forum, and the Tips forums) can also be very helpful and well appreciated. Just remember that Mibba is a community, and members of a community try to help each other out as much as possible.

The overall message of the Mibba Revolution is to get be active, friendly, and helpful on the site. Mibba is a big site with many different aspects and thousands of members. Don't be afraid to explore and participate. Whether you're creating or joining a writing contest, hanging and chatting in the latest WAYT, debating religion or politics, looking for writing tips, or creating icons, banners or profile layouts, the key to bringing Mibba back is working together and getting involved.

The Mibba Revolution is always looking for new ideas and more participants, so if you'd like to become a part of it, don't hesitate to check out the Mibba Revolution's thread and speak up! Any ideas to get the site going and the members active would definitely be appreciated and well welcomed.
