"I couldn't tear my mind from the fact that I had just gotten away from the guards. But not yet. They still had time to find me and kill me."

Project 27 is an excellent dystopian fiction written by water's cascade. The story is set in the distant future, in a world where the people’s every move is controlled by the government, including tasks as simple as taking a walk. Nothing is done without permission and everyone follows the rules, until Juliet Hastings is born. Even at a young age, Juliet questioned the government and often spoke of it with her best friend, Taylor. When her sixteenth birthday nears, she decides she must escape, leaving her friends behind. The story follows Juliet as she learns what life is like outside of government control, and journeys to get back the ones she loves.

The main character is exceptionally well written. Even in the story’s early stages, readers get a feel for her personality and beliefs. Her plight is one that is relatable, even though it is not a situation many will face. Her fight to free from the confines of her world is symbolic of the troubles many people face.

The story’s outstanding original concept is similar to Scott Westerfield’s Uglies series, and anyone who enjoyed the books would certainly enjoy Project 27! The story has beautiful description and even at the young age of thirteen, water’s cascade’s writing style continues to outshine my own. I am continually blown away by her writing and this story. Project 27 is on-going, so check it out and watch as it continues to grow.
