Title: "A Life of Threads"
Author: Chaos Walking
Rating: R
Type: Original Fiction
Genre: Horror, Short Story

Every horror story is made of terrifying elements we crave when seeking out a good scare. In "A Life of Threads"by Chaos Walking, creepy dolls, a vengeful old woman and a dirty, run-down shack combine in a perfectly chilling way to make for great fiction.

In the outskirts of a small village, an abandoned house rests untouched. The villagers are unsure of where the owner went, but quietly keep their concerns to themselves. No one wants to disturb the house. No one dares go inside. No one, aside from one secretive woman, knows what lies within the house, and more importantly, what secrets are locked up inside the shed in the backyard. Chaos Walking tells the story of this woman, and the cruel torture she inflicts upon the townspeople. She’s out for revenge, and in the case of one man, out for blood. Armed with her dolls and needles, she’ll rip him apart at the seams.

The imagery in this piece is gothic and decaying, which creates a very eerie mood. There is little dialog, which fits perfectly with the plot of the story by allowing us to look inside the evil woman's mind. "A Life of Threads" is a great read to get into the Halloween spirit, and a great choice for horror aficionados.

Excerpt

“Then, extremely softly, she ran the sharp, shining blade of the scissors down the woolen flesh, watching as the seams split open to reveal what was under the skin. The long knitted backbone stood out among the strands of red muscle and blood, curving slightly as the doll sagged in her grip. This part would be the most difficult, as if the man in question woke, he would be in enough excruciating pain that he could die. And the woman did not want him to die.

She wanted this to last.”
