“Charlotte, what happened to the others?”

“Nine go in.”

“Charlotte, your brother is one of the people missing. Don’t you want to help your own brother?”

“One comes out.” She muttered, her eyes a million miles away. “Why us? Why did we come out? Why us? Why us?” Dr. Gregg sighed, rubbing his face and standing. He made his way to the door as Charlotte simply sat there, rocking back and forth and whispering to herself. “Louis, Anise, Harry, Liam, Ember, Zayn, Sophie, Niall, Lottie, Louis, Anise, Harry, Liam, Ember, Zayn, Sophie, Niall, Lottie. Nine go in, one comes out.”

Leap Castle is one of the most haunted places in all of Ireland. The property, having been passed down through generations, holds a dark history, which would leave any man shaking in his boots. Many have told tales of wandering spirits and the howling of ghosts heard in the night, but there are still many who are skeptic of the haunting of Leap. There is no hard evidence of the paranormal taking place inside the castle, but the many victims Leap has left in its wake should be proof enough for any man, but unfortunately, for a group of young teenagers, it isn’t.

When the nine young tourists are dared to spend the night in Leap Castle by some of the locals, Niall Horan is the first to agree to the dare, having been a native Irishman himself. A few of his friends are reluctant, but they all agree, and overnight, their lives are turned upside down.

The breaking and entering charges they could receive are the least of the group’s worries, as they soon start to notice the strange things happening inside the castle. From moving pictures to missing doors, the evidence begins to pile up, leading the group to only one line of thinking: something within Leap Castle is very, very wrong.

Who’s Afraid of the Dark? is a terrifying alternate universe fanfiction, in which the boys of One Direction travel to Ireland with Niall’s girlfriend, Louis’s sister, Liam’s play thing and her best friend. This story is one of the few that has actually managed to creep me out, and it happens straight away in the paralyzing prologue, and tensions only continue to mount as the story continues.

This story is far from the usual and I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good scare.
