MM Reviews: Cold Hands

Title: Cold Hands
Author: Aris.
Type: Fan Fiction
Rating: R

Patrick wants Pete, Ryan is ill and they're on tour.

There's nothing good about this situation.

From the very start, Cold Hands deals with Patrick's repulsion at his weight and his obsession to be like Ryan because Pete likes Ryan. What seems like a messy situation gets even messier and the health of more than just Ryan is brought up throughout the chapters. We're left to just watch as things appear to get worse.

Aris captures the thoughts and feelings of Patrick with a tragic sharpness, illuminating a situation that could happen to anyone. The reader cannot help but be concerned for him, while acknowledging the situation between Ryan and Pete with the same concern.

Cold Hands currently totals just under six thousand words, split between twenty chapters. This makes for short chapters and while many people might not enjoy stories with short chapters, it's the shortness of them that makes the content all that more effective. A chapter could be comprised of just one sentence but that sentence tells so much about Patrick that the reader doesn't focus on wanting a higher word count.

This may feature band members but the situation is one where knowing about the band and its history is not required and all the reader needs to know is what the author wants them to know. They've become characters in their own right and Aris brings them to life in such a captivating way that the reader is left wanting more once they've reached the end.

Special thanks to silent hearts. and nearly witches. for editing.
