MM Reviews: Ribo Rager
Imagine being invited to a party at your cousin's house. Now imagine that you've been estranged from said cousin for some time and your mother has forbid you from attending. What do you do? The right thing would be to listen to your mother, but not only does a party sound inciting, but you also wish to reconnect with your cousin. It's a tough one.
For Jenan Alrawi, she chooses her cousin.
But as the night wears on, she'll soon live to regret that decision.
Ribo Rager is a oneshot that deals with various issues that all become entwined as the night wears on. Jenan, at the age of sixteen, has the desire to make her own decisions and choose what she thinks is best, but sometimes it really is best to listen to mum. Coming to a rest at over two thousand words, this piece truly grips its reader and with the twist that comes near the end, it keeps them at the edge of their seat too.
Aspiring Oneironaut's writing allows the reader to truly connect with Jenan as the night goes on, taking them with her as the party turns into a regret she can't escape. This piece is crafted so well that once it has ended the reader will desire more, wishing to know the fates of all involved.
To top it all off, Ribo Rager is also ripe with family drama, contributing to the stunning twist that comes along. Aspiring Oneironaut has truly written something that shouldn't be missed.
