Answering your question: You probably know that the Cold War was not an actual war, but more like an espionage war, it wasn't about dropping bombs, it was the undying threat that someone, somewhere, had the power to blow up an entire country. During these days, Americans feared the Russians and vice versa, there were tales about how the Comunists ate children for breakfast and about how horrible capitalism truly was. The paranoia was on such an extended level that people believed they were being monitored 24/7, that someone somewhere could actually control their brains. This Project MK Ultra, or Monarch Programming, was developed by the CIA in order to train the perfect spies in as little time as possible. So, instead of training spies the old fashion way, by getting volunteered recruits to endure physical and mental training, they would abduct random citizens, mostly children (as they're easier to manipulate) and procceed to turn them into Monarch slaves, the way it is explained in the article: these victims were placed in special facilities where, in the course of several months, they would be deprived of food and water, beaten, sexually abused, undergo sessions of electroshock torture... Now, you've probably heard things like "when people are in a lot of pain, they think happy thoughts." That is basically what these victims did; only in these fantasy lands inside their own minds did they seem to find escape from the gruesome reality they had to face. The handler was seen as an angel of mercy whenever he decided to give them some food or water or not to hit them as hard as usual. This is how these handlers would control their victims, they would make them believe the handler was a god and was to be obeyed. Nowadays, this project is obsolete. However, some people believe this still happens, this mind control through heavy torture, in cases like those seen of fathers locking up their daughters and raping them over and over; also, cases like those of child soldiers are believed to be the result of this technique. And ever since it became so obvious in the music/film industry, some people have been going reeeeally paranoid about this, believing they could be the next victims. I personally believe this does exist, especially considering how more and more influenciable kids and teens are becoming. It's not like next thing you know, everyone's brainwashed, but you think about it, how many teens have done something stupid just because it seemed cool?
Haha, that's pretty much what happened. I just figured I'd risk it, I've taken quite the bashing before. >.< So, I pretty much found you through someone's comment page.
In my Mary Sue article you commented about how everyone wants to be her or be with her, and that is so true! I'm always like no one is that perfect. Just get out of here
