I don't know if you've ever watched American Beauty, but this poem reminds me of Jane, the wife of the main character. If you haven't, she's a hot-shot real estate agent who believes in the power of positive thinking and that she can maintain an image of perfection. By the end of the movie she's breaking down into tears, she's bought a gun, and is having an affair. Her husband works at a fast food restaurant and is probably a legal pedophile.
