    Yes, it was. :tehe:
It's also nice that they tried new things.

It's always going to be hard to live up to everyone's expectations. You just gotta go with what you feel. And I'm glad they did.

This album is pretty amazing. I agree... still can't beat "Sounding the Seventh Trumpet" or "Waking the Fallen" but adding screams again, even if it's The Rev., helps. I guess I just love my growls and screams haha... I'll always support A7X though, they're to amazing to stop.

To clear up the whole "sell-out" thing... the way M. Shadow's voice changed was planned from the beginning, before they offically recorded their first album.

i love the new album but i also love their old stuff.
Change is good for a band, just look at all the magazie covers they have from 2007. they also hit number 4 on fuse's bes of the year.

I completely loved the new album, it was really different from City Of Evil but I was amazed at how well put everything was, it was all really emotionally tied with rock and love. It's one of my favorites.

I really liked this review, it's one of the few of this album that I agree with! Well done :)

What I find intriguing about this album is that it's been really divisive among critics. Rock Sound in the UK only gave it 1 out of 10 whereas Kerrang! gave it 4/5. I think it's a hit or miss affair. For me, it doesn't come close to "City of Evil" (I'm sorry, but that album is absolutely stunning and no other album has ever provoked the reaction it did for me), but I find it to be a fantastic album in it's own right. It's simpler but perhaps more effective because there's less showing off. I gave it a good review for my university paper. I guess at the end of the day it depends on your individual tastes! I'm looking forward to seeing how the tracks hold up live. :)

aww, rolling stone always give anything the most critical review though, so it might not be that bad. anyway your review was good and made me want to listen to it. I've only heard two songs by avenged sevenfold off of city of evil though, so I don't know much about them.
