MCR's Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys

Trading in their Black Parade gear and gurney’s for bright leather and ray guns, My Chemical Romance are back with not only a new look, but also an unusual new sound.

Although MCR are known for their ever changing sound throughout their career, they have gone one step further with the new album ‘Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys’, the only question is, have they gone too far?

With the new pop punk sound the band has recently acquired, the new album is a long step away from any of the band’s previous music. With each new album, the band seems to be slowly leaving their post-hard-core roots behind and moving on to more mainstream material. Track five on the album is clearly evidence of this, as ‘Planetary (GO!)’ is an upbeat pop song with elements of dance. A

lthough this shows the band’s willingness to try something new and even their talent at being able to create successful music of such different genres, the album was quite a disappointment to thousands of the band’s old fans; having anticipated four years for the new album, only for it to seemingly be aimed towards a whole different audience, was not the band’s best move when considering the older fans. Nevertheless, once again the band have proved their talent and creativity, showing that they are capable of much more than most would have anticipated. With a fan base and sound that is constantly changing, it certainly is not hard to imagine the band still producing albums just as successful as this one in years to come.
